In grinding operations, one of the most important problems is to increase efficiency of process. In order to achive this purpose, it is necessary to administer the tool life of grinding wheel and to optimize grinding conditions. Frequently dressing result in lowering the process efficiency remarkably and makes production cost high. On the other hand, grinding with a worn wheel causes the workpiece surface roughness to increase and then results in the occurrence of such troubles as chatter vibration and burning.

This paper deals with elastic stress distributions and load carrying capacity of intact and cracked ellipsoidal inhomogeneities. Axisymmetric finite element analysis has been carried out on intact and cracked ellipsoidal inhomogeneities in on infinite body under uniaxial tension. For the intact inhomogeneity, as well known as Eshelby's(1957) solution, the stress distribution is uniform in the inhomogeneity and non-uniform in the surrounding matrix. On the other hand, for the cracked inhomogeneity, the stress in the region near crack surface is considerably released and the stress distribution becomes more complex. Average stress in the inhomogeneity represents its load carrying capacity, and the difference of average stresses between the intact and cracked inhomogeneities indicates the loss of load carrying capacity due to cracking damage. It is found that the cracked inhomogeneity with higher aspect ratio still maintains higher load carrying capacity.

Computational numerical analysis using generalized methods, such as finite element methods has become an indispensable tool for design and safe construction of various engineering structures in recent years. On the other hand, there are several difficulties that prevent the straightforward application of numerical analysis to geotechnical engineering problems due to a range of uncertainties associated with those problems. A new type of numerical analysis has been proposed and applied successfully to geotechnical engineering problems. In this new approach, parameters describing material characteristics are defined not as input, but by observing the behaviours of a real structure under construction. In this regard, the new approach has been called back analysis and this term is now widely accepted as referring th analysis methods in which observational data are used to derive model parameters.

This paper considers a buffer allocation problem of flexible manufacturing system composed of several parallel workstations each with both limited input and output buffers where AGVs are used for input and output material handling. Some interesting properties are derived that are useful for characterizing optimal allocation of buffer spaces for the given performance evaluation model. By using the properties, a solution algorithm is exploited to solve the optimal buffer allocation problem. A variety of differently-sized decision parameters are numerically tested to show the efficiency of the algorithm.
Program Slicing Based on Predicate Specification

Slicing technique can help to solve many software engineering problems such as testing, program understanding and extraction of a reusable component. However, current slicing criteria and the corresponding techniques are not precise enough in that the obtained slices contain unnecessary statements in some situations. In this paper, we propose a new slicing technique that takes the specification of the slice into account. The information presented in the specification helps to produce more precise slices by removing statements that are not relevant to the specification for the slice. Our technique is based on the weakest precondition and strongest postcondition. We show an example application of the proposed technique in extracting a reusable component.

A strategy of the optimal shape design with FEM (Finite Element Method) is proposed using the subproblem approximation method. Procedures are based on the calculation of the subproblem approximation algorithm. A cantilever beam with two different loading conditions, a concentrated load and an uniformly distributed load, is implemented to optimize the shape. This gives a good design strategy on the optimal cantilever shape. It is found that the convergence is quickly finished with the iteration number below ten. An optimal shape of cantilever beam is shown with stress contour plot. Theoretical result of the cantilever beam having the same stress along the whole length is also length is also presented as on apparent shape and evaluated in detail.

Search engine programs are core tools that help WWW users to search the required informations on the internet. Most search engines inform users of site lists including the key words. Therefore to move the user-demanded web sites, two-step procedures should be performed. However, in this study, direct site access engine helps WWW users to reach the corresponding site directly. Through this engine, computer beginners can easily access the internet using user-friendly interface. In addition, experts can be provided faster service.

We treat problems of estimating reliability R(t) = P[ Y(t) > X(t) ] in the time dependent stregnth-stress model in which a unit of stress X(t) is subjected to environmental strength Y(t) at time t. In this paper we introduce a special model of R(t) with flxed strength and unaccumulated stress case, and several nonparametric confidence interval of R(t) are analyzied and compared by simulation.

In these days, the number of computer use has been increased greatly. However, the basic study of computer usage has not come up with this trend. Especially, in case of keyboard, many kinds of them have been developed, which contain ergonomic designs. However, many people do not use these kind of keyboards, even though they are better than Qwerty keyboard, because their usage requires some training time. Accordingly, in this study, we deal with the development of a new type of keyboard that can be used without special training, reducing the rate of keyboard input error, and minimizing word process time. We expect that this keyboard can help to reduce VDT's syndrome because VDT's syndrome has been concerned with VDT work time.
최대주응력 제어에 의한 2차원 구조물의 최적형상설계에 관한 연구

The optimal shape design with FEM (Finite Element Method) is proposed using the maximum principal stress. Procedures are based on the calculation of the maximum principal stresses and the implementation of the first order optimization algorithm. Two 2-D structures are presented for the numerical illustration. A cantilever beam with the superposition of a concentrated and distributed loading condition and a truss structure are described to optimize the shape. This gives a good design strategy on the optimal cantilever beam and truss shape. It is found that the convergence is quickly finished with the small iteration number.
