Ship operation accidents can cause enormous loss of life and property, but many ship accidents are reported every year. There are various types of ship accidents such as collision, sinking, grounding, and so on. Especially ship navigation near land can highly make grounding accidents. Near the land, due to the complicated seafloor and heavy traffic, many navigators are putting a lot of effort into safe navigation. This paper describes the function of finding a narrow space between the seafloor and the ship for ships operating in these areas. And a new symbol was created to portray this information on the electronic navigational chart. This result was tested by configuring the additional functions of the existing system to service safety-related information to the ship.

According to the SOLAS regulations, the on-board radar of ships is mandatory for safe navigation. However, recording radar information is selectively applied. It is common to temporarily store and discard records of marine radars for use in an emergency. Recently, the use of radar information as navigation information in autonomous ships or ships with a high level of automation has been discussed. Therefore, this paper describes a method of storing and managing both radar images and the information of aids to navigation for applying radar images to various computing environments. This paper describes the process of establishing a database that can be used to develop an application using radar images is regard to the safe operation of ships, such as ship track analysis and ship position estimation, and introduces implemented examples.

The equipment that measures the position of a ship is mandatory to be mounted on a ship according to the SOLAS regulations for safe operation. These equipments are operated based on data from sensors installed on the ship itself and GPS signals. During navigation, communication failure may occur for various reasons, and the rate of occurrence is increasing as the number of automation systems increases. However, when an issue occurs, a ship in voyage has limited access from the outside, and the entire system cannot be stopped even if a threat is detected. This paper describes the guidance on safe operation of ships that quickly detects communication failures that may occur during voyage and supports navigators to continue safe operation. In this paper, the ship safety navigation algorithm was implemented and tested that can detect ship abnormal operation during operation and support ship location and safe operation by using historical ship navigation information and ship radar information. Through the experiment, it was verified to normally operate functions, and which were the alram for detecting abnormal ship navigation and the guidance for provide bearing and distance to enter safe navigation area.
