Although manyalternative treatment technics have been proposed recently for gallstone to substitute cholecystectomy the extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) for gallbladder stones has rarely been tried. We have carried out a series of experiments to evaluate how effective the ESWL for gallbladder stones in and how safe this procedure is. At first in vitro shock wave application was carried out to 10 gallbladder stones which were obtained from human gallbladder. Secondly gallbladder stones were implanted to canine gallbladder and treated with shock wave Lastly a total of 41 volunteers with confirmed gallbladder stones were treated with shock wave and combined oral administration of ursodeoxycholic acid. In the in vitro experiment aoo of the 10 gallstones were fragmented with variable firing rates and duration. In animal experiment the implanted stones were successfully fragmented and the organs included in the pathway of shock wave were proved to be intact histologically. in juman study complete disappearance of gallstones was noted in 78.6% of patients with single radiolucent gallbladder stones smaller than 2.5cm in the longest diameter. two patients underwent cholecystectomy after ESWL due to sudden colic attack, Onee patient had experienced and episode of mild transient obstructive jaundice. It may be concluded that the ESWL for gallbladder stones is an effective and safe method of treatment of gallbladder stones in the selected cases for example small radiolucent stones and the further study is needed to establish improved technology og the ESWL for gallbladder stones.

The understeer characteristics of four wheel steering system(4WS system) in the high speed region has a negative effect upon the yaw velocity, leading to a decrease in the handling ability of vehicle. As a result, even if the side slip angle of vehicle can be kept up a minimum. the driver must compensate the decrease in the yaw velocity by increasing the steering wheel angle ,in order to track the desired vehicle path. In this study, to keep the side slip angle of vehicle at zero and achieve the suitable yaw velocity in vehicle motion, a full active 4WS system(FA 4WS system) with the actively steerable front and rear wheels is presented based on the nonlinear vehicle model and the model following control of yaw velocity. And the analysis results show the fact that, besides the excellent stability of vehicle, the FA 4WS system is able to realize the better handling performance of vehicle than the previous 4WS systems in the high speed region.<br/> <br/>

Collision Warning System has been as active research and development area as the interests and demande for active safety of road vehicles increase. This paper presents an experimental investigation of Collision Warning System for automobiles. A Collision Warning HiLS(Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation) system has been designed and used to test a Collision Warning algorithm. Radar censors. And warning displays under realistic operating conditions in the laboratory. A Collision Warning algorithm consists of warning index defined by the warning distance and following vehicles. Relative distance and relative velocity of the vehicles using vehicle simulation models. The relative distance and the relative velocity are applied to the vehicle simulator controlled by a DC motor.<br/>

N/A Background/Aims: To evaluate the effects of extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy(ESWL) on diverse composition-types of gallstones, we conducted an analysis of the characteristics of scanning electron microscopic features of gallstones fragmented by extracorporeal shock waves. Methods: Fifteen gallstones from 1S cholecystectomized patients were fragmented by extracorporeal shock waves in vitro. The fragmented gallstones were studied by gross examination, simple X-ray, microscopic examination, and the scanning electron microscope(SEM). The composition of gallstones was classified by infrared spectrophotometric analysis as cholesterol stone, calcium carbonate stone, and pigment stone. Results; Fifteen gallstones were classified into five groups: three pure cholesterol stones, seven cholesterol stones, two calcium carbonate stones, two hlack pigment stones, and one brown stone. Scanning electron microscopic examination showed that radially oriented clusters of cholesterol crystals and the plane of fracture are parallel to the long axis of the crystals in pure cholesterol stones, intermeshed cholesterol crystals with rounded-border in mixed stones, broken egg-shell-like thin structures in calcium carbonate stones, and irregular bordered and amorphous structures in pigment stones, either black or brown ones. Conclusions: The surface of the gallstone fragments by ESWL showed different SEM patterns according to the type of gallstones, depending on their unique structure and composition. "Development of Active Noise Control System for Vehicle's Muffler" is developing an active muffler system capable of attenuating low frequency noise levels and simultaneously improving engine performance. Its concepts will utilize a digital signal processing computer, with a cancelling actuator connected to the engine via a straight-through pipe, to cancel unwanted engine exhaust noise. With fast clock speed of 20MHz, the DSP chip allows for rapid adaption to a car engine speed changes.<br/> Sensing devices located within the Active Muffler System detect exhausted noise generated by the engine. The sensing devices relay the noise, in the form of electrical signals, to the DSP computer. The DSP analyzes the incoming information and, in response, generates mirror image elecrical signals. These inverse signals are then introduced, through transducers, into the Active Muffler System canister. Within miliseconds, cancellation occurs. Through these cancellation process, considerable noise reduction will be attatined.<br/> In this study, active muffler was designed and manufactured for exhaust noise reduction of commercial vehicle, then simulation and experiment of real vehicle was conducted.<br/>

The ride and handling performances of vehicle have close relation with the driver's safety. In this study, a computer aided testing(CAT) system for measuring and analysing the ride and handling performances of vehicle is developed based on the Windows programming technique. Especially, in order to effectively derive the significant performance parameters from vehicle tests such as J-turn, steady state cornering, lane change, double lane change, slalom and so on, the CAT system has various functions related to real time measurement, time domain analysis, frequency domain analysis, XY domain analysis, steady state analysis, database management and so on.<br/> <br/>
