Vol.34 No.-

The major goal of this article is to find missiological implications of the fruit of the Spirit(love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control) in Galatians 5:22 by investigating John Wesley's and others' writings. Because the author believes that attitude is strongly contagious in mission fields, he especially aims to suggest that the fruit of the Spirit would supply some valuable hints for proper missionary attitude. The first half of this article deals with John Wesley(1703-1791) and the fruit of the Spirit. Unlike some theologians who divide the fruit of the Spirit into three or four portions, Wesley regards the fruit of the Spirit as an indivisible whole. Wesley does draw a distinction between extraordinary gifts of the Spirit and ordinary gifts of the Spirit. However, to Wesley, the fruit of the Spirit is more than merely the gifts of the Spirit. It is synonymous with Christian perfection. Wesley's view of the fruit of the Spirit is congruent with the verse "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus"(Phil. 2:5). The second half of this article handles missiological implications of the fruit of the Spirit. In order to do so the author applies insights from Thomas Keating, Elisa Morgan, Evelyn Underhill, Philip D. Kenneson, James Merritt, Viv Grigg, and the Bible. Among these, the subtitles of Merritt's nine chapters are worth mentioning: If you're not loving, you're not living; Joy to the world; How to keep your head while others are losing theirs; Winners never quit and quitters never win; Try a little kindness; How to live the good life; The world's greatest ability; The lower you get, the higher you go; Never let them see you sweat. The author concludes this article by emphasizing that intercultural missionaries should be deeply purged good soil and stay close (not to the sender or to the host people but) to Jesus in order to be fruitful. The perfecting or maturing of the Christian character is what the fruit of the Spirit is all about.

Vol.27 No.-

The church should be social in order to be effective in the community. The author coins a brand-new term, the social church, to emphasize the importance of the social nature of the church and its social responsibility. To be social is to be relational. The author gets the key idea of this article from the following statement of John Wesley(1703-1791). “I shall endeavour to show that Christianity is essentially a social religion, and that to turn it into a solitary religion is indeed to destroy it.” The emergence of social enterprise in Korea is described as a background of the social church. Chapter 2 treats society and the church. The adjective ‘social’ is analyzed in depth to overcome society-phobia of the church. Instead of social isolation originated from a siege or bunker mentality, active social interaction is strongly recommended. Chapter 3 handles how the missional church could cross over its boundary. Brian D. Russel’s five characteristics of the missional movement is insightful: 1) church as the sent people of God, 2) the world as the locus of ministry, 3) churches as mission outposts, 4) pastor as resident missiologist, 5) new measures for evaluating success. Möbius strip is used as a metaphor for the social church. Chapter 4 deals with Christian social action and the Kingdom of God. After introducing Kenneth Leech’s argument of the social God and Howard A. Snyder’s concept of the Kingdom of God, James Shopshire’s ministry process typology is adopted as a good example of how to become a social church: 1) identify a need problem or issue in community, 2) investigate and analyze economic, political, cultural aspects, 3) study biblical and theological implication, 4) develop a plan of ministry, 5) engage in ministry action, 6) reflection and evaluation of outcomes, 7) renew action plan and engage or go to next level of ministry. The author concludes this article by arguing that secularism can be overcome as long as Christians’ density of love is thick enough. Instead of being afraid of the world, the church should engage in the world as the social church.

권오훈 ( Oh Hoon Kwon ),윤희관 ( Huy Kwan Yun ),한성국 ( Seong Kuk Han ),안대현 ( Dae Hyun Ahn ),심명진 ( Myeong Jin Shim ),조성운 ( Sung Woon Cho ),박종순 ( Jong Soon Park ),김재용 ( Jae Yong Kim ) 한국공업화학회 2010 공업화학 Vol.21 No.5

The main function of conventional insulation materials is only to block the heat transfer and reduce heat loss from the building. On the other hand, thermal storage materials can work as an energy saver by absorbing or emitting heat within a specific temperature range. Thermal storage materials for building can maintain a constant temperature by effectively regulating the cycle of indoor temperature. As a result, we can enhance the performance of a cooling and heating system efficiently. In this study, phase change materials (PCMs) were added as thermal storage materials into gypsum boards which are extensively used for building material and we found out the thermal environmental characteristics. In addition, we checked out some problems when applying the thermal storage materials to buildings. Finally, This study set out to examine the degree of environmental-friendly characteristics of thermal storage building materials by analyzing the amount of TVOC and HCHO contents with the possibility of pollutants emission.

Vol.17 No.-

The church & beyond movement could be a good term for church renewal. The church & beyond movement revitalizates the kingdom of God by overcoming the boundaries of each church. The local-church-centrality (decentralization of denominational power by a self-governing-local-church) has been an engine for the revitalization of the kingdom of God for over a generation now in the Korean church. When, however, it is changed into the egocentricity of the church (extreme selfishness of each local church), it has been a stumbling block to revitalization of the kingdom of God. The author suggests the church & beyond movement as an antidote of the egocentricity of the church. Chonja (seeds) is a North Korean term for a poetical imagination or a musical motif. As an effort of developing missiology in a unified Korean context, the author uses ‘seeds’ of church renewal studies instead of ‘inspirations’ of church renewal studies as a part of the title. In chapter 2, the author deals with seeds of church renewal studies using economic terms. The author points out the danger of M&A of the church by using economic terms such as reverse-synergy, multiprocessing, and the monopoly of trade. In chapter 3, the author handles seeds of church renewal studies harvested in a soccer field. Field-vision and teamwork is essential for church renewal as well as for soccer. The author introduces Howard A. Snyder’s 8 marks of a mediating model of renewal, which is a combination of elements of both the institutional and the charismatic model of renewal: 1) The renewal movement exists as an ecclesiola. 2) The renewing movement uses some form of small group structure. 3) The renewal movement has some structural link with the institutional church. 4) The renewal structure is committed to the unity, vitality, and wholeness of the larger church. 5) The renewal structure is mission-oriented. 6) The renewal movement is especially conscious of being a distinct, covenant-based community. 7) The renewal movement provides the context for the rise, training, and exercise of new forms of ministry and leadership. 8) The renewal structure maintains an emphasis on the Spirit and the Word as the basis of authority. The author uses theological methodology of storytelling. The author concludes this article with a high hope that the church & beyond movement would work as disinfected seeds for the Korean church which is diseased with an egocentricity of the church.

Vol.25 No.-

John Wesley. the founder of Method ism. believed th at faith working through love(Galatians 5:6) is th e essence of true religion and a true Christian. Th e author thus studies further each component of John Wes ley's faith working through love based on John Wesley's 53 Standard Sermons . The standard Sermons, along with his Explanatory Notes upon (he New Testament, were set forward by John Wesley for doctrinal standards of Method ist s In 1763. In chapter 2. the author deals with grace and faith as the gift of God . Grace makes good works unnecessary. Faith is nor something a Christian earns through meritorious work; it is the free gift of God(Eph. 2:8-9). In chapter 3. th e author handles good works as outward signs of inward faith and love. Although faith is glorious and honor able. it is st ill only th e handmaid of love. Only love is the sum of perfection in heaven . Good work s are an immediate and necessary fruit of faith. Wesley urges Christians to be zealous of work s of mercy. as well as works of piet y. In chapter 4, th e author discusses Christi an perfect ion as holy love/loving-holiness. Full sanctification and complete salvation are God' s gradual or instantaneous great work in th e soul. Christ ian perfection is holiness and love combined. Faith work ing through love produces obedience and holiness. It is all inward and ourward holiness. It leads us into a new creation, all things in us becoming new. The au thor concludes this article by emphasizing that John Wesley's holistic concept of holy love/loving-holiness can be an antidote for Korean Christianity which is sharply divided by a holiness-orient ed g roup(works of piety , evangelism) and a love-oriented group(works of mercy, social responsibility). According to John Wesley, a true Christian can be truly evangelical and truly social concurrently.
