It is generally known that cardiovascular and metabolic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia increase morbidity and mortality in postmenopausal women. This study investigated the effects of Jajun-Dance to coronary heart disease of middle age women with hypertension. Thirteen sedentary women (55.8±5.2 yrs) were recruited for this study, and completed 16 weeks of Jajun-Dance program. All subjects were diagnosed as essential hypertension patients. Blood-sugar level (FBG), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and visceral fat area (VFA) were measured. The Jajun-Dance program included 10 minutes warm up (exercise for flexibility), 40 minutes Jajun-Dance, and 10 minutes cool down. The subjects participated in Jajun-Dance program three times a week. Exercise was maintained at exercise intensity corresponding to rating of perceived exertion (RPE) 13-15. The results showed that FBG, SBP, and DBP (6.0 ㎜Hg) were significantly decreased after Jajun-Dance program. TG and VFA tended to decrease, but there were no significant differences. This study suggests that hypertensive middle-aged women could modify coronary risk factors with regular exercise, and that the aerobic Jajun-Dance program could effectively reduce high blood pressure.

This study was designed to investigate cardiovascular responses and the recovery from muscle damage after the anti-aging intravenous therapy (AAIT) (once in 2 days, total 14 treatments) in 10 college soccer players. The hemodynamic responses and muscle damage fatigue factors were assessed before and after the AAIT treatment. Muscle damage was induced with 50 min downhill running at the intensity of 75% of VO₂max). The cardiovascular responses were measured by a non-invasive device Physio flow during exercise. After the treatment, There were no statistical differences in the levels of both La and VO₂max levels, while the rapid recovery occurred in the level of the GOT, CK, and ammonia compared to before the treatment (from 30.1±3.01 to 23.7±2.22 U/L; from 277±36.92 U/L to 174.2±40.8 U/L; 113.0±6.13 ug/dL to 75.2±2.92 ug/dL, respectively). Total vascular conductance, stroke volume, and cardiac output were significantly improved after the MIT treatment. Thus, the results indicated that the AAIT treatment may increase oxygen delivery to active skeletal muscle and improve the recovery from muscle damage. Our study suggests that the AAIT treatment could enhance exercise performance and intervene muscle damage in athletes during intense exercise.

Parathyroid carcinoma is a rare disease in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism. We experienced a case of parathyroid carcinoma presenting with hyperparathyroidism. A 62-year-old male patient had hypercalcemia, chronic kidney disease, and an elevated parathyroid hormone level for at least 3 months. An ultrasonogram and parathyroid scan did not show parathyroid neoplasm. He underwent left hemithyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy. Biopsy revealed a parathyroid carcinoma. His azotemia and hypercalcemia improved after surgery. (Korean J Med 2012;83:796-801)
