이제는 거울 앞에 선 내 누이: 한 중년 여성의 생애사를 중심으로

본 연구는 어떤 사람들이 어떻게 꾸준하게 자원봉사활동을 하고 있으며, 봉사 활동을 지속적으로 하고 있는 사람들은 삶의 의미를 어디에서 어떻게 발견하는 것일까에 대한 질문을 질적 연구, 특히 생애사 연구를 통하여 찾고자 하였다. 이와 같은 목적을 위하여 연구참여자와 회기당 2시간 가량, 총 3회의 심층면담을 하고 면담의 전 과정은 연구참여자의 동의를 얻어 녹음하였고, 녹음된 자료는 연구자가 여러 번 계속해서 반복해서 들으며 직접 축어록으로 작성하였다. 또한 축어록으로 작성한 것을 여러 번 정독하며 연구목적과 관련된 중요한 주 제를 발견하고 코딩하며, 유목화하는 과정을 거쳤으며, 삶의 과정과 문맥 속에 포함된 전형적이고 대표적인 사건과 그 밖의 사회화 과정을 구조적으로 기술했 다. 기술 방식은 거울-읽기 방식을 택했는데, 거울은 정체성 탐색이라는 기본 적이고 기술적인 기능을 하기 때문이다. 아버지, 남편, 딸, 그리고 연구참여자 자신의 거울을 통해서 연구참여자의 생애를 분석한 결과 연구참여자가 느끼는 정체성에 따라 삶의 의미 또한 달라진다는 것을 발견했다. 이를 통해 ‘삶의 의미 발견과정’ 에 관한 질문과 그에 대한 답을 찾는 과정은 교육의 과업 중 하나 이며 궁극적으로 교육의 목적에 이바지하는 활동이 될 수 있음을 제안하였다. This study is searching for the answer to the question about how some people have consistently volunteered and how and where they have found the meaning of their life through qualitative research, especially life history study. For the stated purpose, the researcher had two-hour in-depth interviews with the participant three times and recorded the entire interviews with the consent of the participant and transcribed the discussions listening to the recording repeatedly. Also, in the process of repeated attentive reading of the transcripts, the researcher has found, coded and categorized the important topics and systematically described the typical and representative events in the context of the life history and other socialization process. The researcher adopted mirror-reading approach because mirror helps to search for self-identity, basic and technical function. By analyzing her life through the mirror of her father, her husband, and her daughter and herself the researcher discovered that the meaning of her life also changed according to her own identity. Through this study, we suggest that questions about the discovery of the meaning of life and the process of searching for the answer is one of the important tasks of education, ultimately contributing to the purpose of education.
