This paper examines articles related to family and woman in the Samgukyusa through a complete enumeration and discusses the findings. However, due to the broad scope of family and woman, this paper limits its focus to certain aspects. Specifically, within the family, various relationships exist, but this study primarily explores the conditions of marital choices and the characteristics of family types in the process of family formation. Regarding woman, the study examines behaviors related to sexuality and property rights. This is because marriage, as a social institution, reflects power dynamics within the existing social system, particularly associated with issues of property and sexuality. The analysis of marital conditions resulted in the categorization of cases emphasizing the aspect of personality the most. Cases related to physical characteristics, appearance, political benefits, age, abilities, and reciprocation of favors were mentioned in descending order. Interestingly, there were many records regarding beauty for both man and woman, suggesting a profound fascination with beauty among the people of the Silla Dynasty. However, cases with limited records or no mention require supplementation through future comparison and review with other sources. The paper categorizes family types in the Samgukyusa through content analysis, classifying them into single-parent families (mother-child families), multicultural families (international marriages), and remarried families. This section also requires further supplementation through comparison and review with other sources. In the examination of woman's records through sexual behaviors and property rights, it is noteworthy that there is a focus on the concept of 'children of the mother' rather than 'children without a father.' This reflects the self-fulfilling existence of woman as mothers outside the institution of marriage, raising children after premarital sexual behaviors or choosing marriage through free love. The societal atmosphere did not unilaterally regulate one side over the other in sexual behaviors, both within and outside marriage. Records related to woman's property rights demonstrate that woman, from royalty to poor woman, could own and use their property. The abundance of stories related to woman in the Samgukyusa may be attributed to the characteristics of the Goryeo society in which thcompiler Ilyeon lived, including features such as matrimonial custom ‘so-ryu-boo-ga’ (婿留婦家婚), freedom in divorce and remarriage, and inheritance by equal distribution. There is a need to reexamine the various subsystems of the family and the appearance of woman shown in the Samgukyusa, which were not discussed in this paper from various aspects, and if we compare and supplement them through other materials for a consilient study of the family and woman, the Samgukyusa will be an in-depth interpretation of the records.
