        Analysis of Transient Ceiling Jet Waves in a Corridor

        As the examples of smoke spread in a corridor, the burn rooms are generally connected through a corridor to environment and a lobby. The wave amplitudes of the velocity of transient jet waves are very important in fire protection systems. The objectives of this study are to estimate mathematically the parameters of the transient jet wave velocities flowing through the unconfined ceiling of the corridor and to derive various related equations with the parameters. The parameters vary according to the wave induced velocity, the natural frequency, the wave number and the mean flow velocity. The transient ceiling jet waves are analyzed by FDS software developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, USA. The analyzed results of the smoke layer temperature are compared with the experimental results performed by Jones et al.. The relation of the mean velocity, the heat release rates and the door width is expressed by vm( Q· 1 ⁄3Wd1 ⁄3 )≅0.2the relation of the wave induced velocity, the heat release rates and the door width is expressed by vr( Q· 1⁄ 3Wd1⁄ 2⁄ )≅0.07

      • 저소음형 디젤엔진 발전기 Canopy의 열유동장 수치해석

        The life span and efficiency of industrial machine equipment and vehicles has been negatively affected by the temperature rise caused by thermal sources. Recently, because of changing designs to better the shape of the machines, the presence of the equipment with high output and efficiency, arid the treatment of environmental regurations resulting in negative effects on thermal and flow field; the matter of cooling such systems has become much more important. In this study, numerical analysis of thermal and flow field was carried out according to the inner structure of the canopy in the various designs of diesel engine generator canopy of transfer gantry crane. When the general three dimensional, incompressible, viscous flow-caused by the fan and radiator models went through the complicated structure of heat sources, we used FLUENT S/W to analyze the particularity of the thermal and flow field in the canopy. We then applied the information from our anaysis to the matter of cooling engine room in the heavy industrial equipment and automobiles.

        Experience with Elizabethkingia meningoseptica Infection in Adult Patients at a Tertiary Hospital

        Background: Few reports have documented the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of adult patients with Elizabethkingia meningoseptica infection. Methods: Medical records of patients over 18 years of age and suspected of having an E. meningoseptica infection from March 1, 2006 to February 28, 2013 were reviewed retrospectively. Their clinical characteristics, antimicrobial susceptibility results, and treatment outcomes were analyzed. Results: E. meningoseptica was isolated from 30 patients. Median age was 68.5 years, and infections were more frequent in males (17, 56.7%). The most common isolation source was sputum (23, 76.7%), and pneumonia was the most common condition (21, 70%) after excluding two cases of colonization. This bacterium was most susceptible to minocycline (27, 90%) and fluoroquinolones, including levofloxacin (20, 66.7%) and ciprofloxacin (18, 60%). The mortality rate due directly to E. meningoseptica infection was 20% (6/30), and uncontrolled pneumonia was the only cause of death. After isolating E. meningoseptica, the numbers of patients with pneumonia (9/9, 100% vs. 12/21, 57.1%), history of hemodialysis (5/9, 55.6% vs. 3/21, 14.3%), tracheostomy (8/9, 88.9 vs. 10/21, 47.6%), and median Charlson comorbidity index score (6 [range, 3–9] vs. 4 [range, 0–9]) were significantly higher in non-survivors than those in survivors (p < 0.05, for each). However, only 12 (40%) patients received appropriate antibiotics. Conclusions: E. meningoseptica infection most commonly presented as pneumonia in adults with severe underlying diseases. Despite the high mortality rate, the rate of appropriate antibiotic use was notably low.

      • 흡음영역의 소음저감에 관한 구조·음향 연성해석

        A structural-acoustic coupling problem involving fluid in a cavity divided with flexible walls and porous materials is investigated in this paper. We developed a numerical analysis program for the structural-acoustic coupling problems of the multi-domain cavity, using boundary elements for the fluid regions and finite elements for the structure. By considering sound transmission through layered systems placed in a cavity, the accuracy of the coupled acoustical-structural finite element model has been verified by comparing its transmission loss predictions with analytical solutions. Example problems are included to investigate the characteristics of the multi-domain structural-acoustic coupling system with porous material.

In this study, I investigated the working of the low noise emergency generator at fire eruption, relation with fire equipment, and changing time from electric power to emergency power. I simultaneously estimated the changing time from electric power to emergency power at emergency.

      • 디젤엔진 발전기 세트의 저소음화에 관한 연구

        Diesel engine generator sets in heavy industry plants and residential/official buildings can cause serious noise problem. In this paper, a low noise diesel engine generator set is developed through constructing an acoustic enclosure with ventilation duct silencers that effectively block the acoustic flow but guarantee good thermal flow. Acoustic design of the enclosure which is initially layout by rule of thumb, is evolved systematically through numerical reanalysis procedure, based on indirect boundary element method(IBEM) with a commercial acoustic analysis code. The acoustic and cooling performances of the developed low noise diesel engine generator set are confirmed by the experiment.

        This paper presents a computational method for predicting transmission loss, based on the transfer matrix equations derived from the boundary element method with 3-dimensional Helmholtz integral formula for acoustic problems. Transmission Loss in computed with the transfer matrix equations representing the acoustic properties of the subregions. The boundary integral equation for a specific geometry is solved using quadratic isoparametric surface elements. Pressure and velocity boundary conditions are formulated and incorporated into the computational method. The accuracy of the prepared method was tested through an application to a spherical cavity problem. The method can reduce much the computation cost than that applying that B.E M to the whole region.

        In many practical problems, the use of finite elements to discretize the fluid region leads to large stiffness and mass matrices. But, since the acoustic boundary element discretization requires to put elements only on the surface of structure, the size of matrices is reduced considerably. Here, we developed a numerical analysis program for the structural-acoustic coupling problems of the multi-region cavity, using boundary elements for the fluid regions and finite elements for the structure. By considering sound transmission through layered systems placed in a cavity, the accuracy of the coupled acoustical-structural finite element model has been verified by comparing its transmission loss predictions with analytical sloutions. Example problems are included to investigate the characteristics of the multi-region structural-acoustic coupling system with porous material.
