<P><B>Background:</B></P><P>Although the anti-tumour effect of cyclooxygenase-2 (Cox-2) inhibitors in invasive bladder cancer has been confirmed, its mechanisms of action are unclear. Recently, the concept of an epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) promoting carcinoma progression has been suggested, and a key feature of the EMT is the downregulation of E-cadherin. In this study, we investigated the effect of Cox-2 inhibitors on reversal EMT and tumour growth inhibition in bladder cancer cells.</P><P><B>Methods:</B></P><P>We used three Cox-2 inhibitors, etodolac, celecoxib and NS-398 and three human bladder cancer cell lines, T24, 5637 and KK47, in this study. T24 xenograft tumour mouse model was used in the <I>in vivo</I> study.</P><P><B>Results:</B></P><P>Within the clinical drug concentrations, only etodolac showed the <I>in vitro</I> growth inhibition in T24 not in the other cell lines. Etodolac reduced <I>SNAIL</I> mRNA and vimentin cell surface expression, and induced <I>E-cadherin</I> mRNA and E-cadherin cell surface expression, in T24. Etodolac also most strongly inhibited the cell migration of T24 <I>in vitro</I> and showed the highest tumour growth inhibition in T24 tumour <I>in vivo</I>.</P><P><B>Conclusion:</B></P><P>Etodolac at clinical doses exhibited induced <I>in vitro</I> and <I>in vivo</I> anti-tumour effects and reversal effect of EMT in T24. These results suggest that etodolac is a good candidate for an anti-tumour or chemopreventive reagent for high-grade bladder cancer.</P>

The growth responses of a variety of human intestinal bacteria to extracts of Panax ginseng and five other oriental medicinal Araliaceae were elraluattd in vitro and in vivo. The extracts enhanced the growth of Brifidobnnerilrm breve and B. longlim in media with or without carbon sources, suggesting that bifidus factors) might be involved in the phenomenon. This effect was most pronounced with water extract of P. ginseng, the growth of 27 bifidobacteria strains belonging to B adolescentis, B. longum, B. brim and B. infantis being greatly stimurated, whereas seven B. bifidum strains and other bacteria such as clostridia and Escherichin soli had little or no ability to utilise it for growth. Methanol extracts of p. ginseng were found to selectively inhibit growth of various clostridia including bifidobacteria. Paraputrificum, but this effect was not observed on other bacteria including bifidobacteria. The effect of ginseng extract intake (600 mg/day for two weeks) on the faecal microflora, pH, volatile fatty acids, ammonia, putrefactive products, and -glucuronidase, -glucosidase and nitroreductase activities, and on the blood components (triglyceride, total cholesterol and ammonia) were investigated using seven healthy human volunteers. The total concentration of faecal microflora including Bifidnkaderiifm app. during the period of ginseng extract intake %twas significantly unaffected from the preceding and subsequent control peroids. However, the frequency of occurrence of subjects having C. perfringens was significantly decreased. The faecal pH value was also significantly decreased, suggesting that the intake might increase the activity of Bifidobncterium spry. Other biochemical properties in faeces did not changed significantly. The levels of ammonia and triglycerid in blood were decreased with ginseng extract intake. These results may be an indication of at least one of the Pharmacological actions of p. ginseng as an adaptogen.

<P>Carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/lead sulfide (PbS) quantum dots (QDs) nanohybrids have been synthesized through the controlled decoration of CNTs by PbS-QDs by means of the pulsed laser deposition technique. The size of the PbS-QDs and their surface coverage of the CNTs' surface are monitored through the number of laser ablation pulses. Here, while comparing both single-walled (SW) and double-walled (DW) CNTs based nanohybrids, focus is put on the investigation of their interfacial structure and the effect of inner tube. Anchoring PbS through direct sulfur-carbon chemical bonding between CNTs' outer wall and PbS-QDs, which are thought to be profitable for efficient charge transfer but not for charge transport along CNT's tube axis, are confirmed by Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. In the case of double-walled CNTs (DWCNTs), inner tube remains unaffected by ablated PbS species, then it serves efficient conduction way for transferred photo-generated charges. This unique feature of the DWCNTs based nanohybrid, where the photocharges are generated by the chemically bonded PbS-QDs to the outer tube and then efficiently conveyed by the inner tube of the nanotubes, is highly likely at the origin of their significantly higher photo-activity (several hundred times than in SWCNTs-based nanohybrids). <P>Linear carbon chains (LCCs) consisting of sp-hybridized carbon atoms are considered a fascinating 1D system and could be used in the fabrication of the next-generation molecular devices because of its ideal linear atomic nature. A large portion of long LCCs inside multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized by atmospheric arc discharge in the presence of boron. Closed-end growth of MWCNTs in the arc process is suggested as a critical condition for the simultaneous growth of LCCs within the inner cores of carbon nanotubes. The strong Raman line around 1850 cm(-1) was used to characterize the degree of filling as well as their structural stability under high temperature thermal treatments. We observed a distinctive change in the electrical conductivity of the MWCNT assembly before and after the disappearance of LCCs due to the expected strong coupling interaction between the LCCs and the innermost tube. This work demonstrates for the first time the enhanced effect of confined linear carbon chains on the overall electrical conductivity of MWCNT assemblies. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. 큰원뿔나방과(Depressariidae)의 8종, 을 우리나라 미기록종으로 보고한다. Depressaria niphosyrohas Meyrick과 D. basicostata Matsumura는 D. taciturna Meyrick의 동물이명으로 Agonopterix sapporensis(Matsumura)와 A. ochrocephala Saito는 A. angelicella(Hubner), 그리고 A. iharai Fujjisawa는 A. ocellana(Fabricius)의 동물이명으로 정리하였다. Eight species of Depressariidae, , are reported for the first time from Korea. Depressria niphospyrphos Meyrick and D. basicosta Matsumura are newly synonymized with D. taciturna Meyrick. Agonopterix sapporensis (Matsumura) and A. ochroephala Saito are also synonymized with A. angeliocella(Hubner) respectively, and A. iharai Fujisawa with A. ocellana (Fabricius).
