As the consumption of plastics in the world causing lots of environmental problems increases, the interest in plastic degradation have been greater than before. Among the biodegradable plastics, PBAT and PBS are the most popular bioplastics. We tested 20 of halophilic bacteria, 4 Bacillus pumilus, and 4 PHB degrading bacteria from Konkuk university to select the strains that can effectively degrade PBAT and PBS. Bacillus pumilus 3348, Bacillus pumilus 3713, Bacillus pumilus 3855, and Bacillus pumilus 13101 showed the potential of PBAT and PBS degradation through the halo formation on PBAT and PBS emulsified plates. In order to confirm that lipase would degrade PBAT and PBS, one of lipase products, CALB, was used to observe lipase activity to degrade PBAT and PBS. In conclusion, we found that Bacillus pumillus reported to have lipase genes in NCBI can degrade PBAT and PBS.
Regulation of KLF12 by microRNA‐20b and microRNA‐106a in cystogenesis

<P>Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is one of the most common inherited disorders. ADPKD is caused by mutations in the gene encoding either polycystic kidney disease 1 (PKD1) or polycystic kidney disease 2 (PKD2). Patients with ADPKD show progressive growth of cystic fluid-filled renal cysts. Here, we used Pkd2(f/f) control mice and Pkd2(f/f):HoxB7-Cre experimental mice, which are bred to have a conditional deletion of Pkd2 in the collecting ducts, and analyzed the expression pattern of microRNAs (miRNAs) of kidney tissues from Pkd2(f/f) and Pkd2(f/f):HoxB7-Cre mice. Decreased expression of miR-20b-5p and miR-106a-5p in Pkd2(f/f):HoxB7-Cre mice compared to that in Pkd2(f/f) mice was observed. These miRNAs target Klf12 (Kruppel-like factor 12), which has low expression in kidney tissues of Pkd2(f/f) mice; however, its expression is enhanced in Pkd2(f/f):HoxB7-Cre mice over time. Moreover, miR-20b-5p and miR-106a-5p directly target Klf12 mRNA by binding to the 3-UTR of Klf12. In addition, human and mouse cell lines exhibit similar patterns. These findings were also consistent with the data from Pkd2 knockout mouse embryonic fibroblasts. Furthermore, direct and indirect knockdown of Klf12 slows cyst growth and cell proliferation in mouse inner medullary collecting duct cells. Taken together, we suggest that the induction of miR-20b-5p or miR-106a-5p or the down-regulation of KLF12 could be used as potential novel therapies for inhibiting cyst growth in patients with ADPKD.-Shin, Y., Kim, D. Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) is a biodegradable and biocompatible bioplastic. Effective PHB degradation in nutrient-poor environments is required for industrial and practical applications of PHB. To screen for PHB-degrading strains, PHB double-layer plates were prepared and three new Bacillus infantis species with PHB-degrading ability were isolated from the soil. In addition, phaZ and bdhA of all isolated B. infantis were confirmed using a Bacillus sp. universal primer set and established polymerase chain reaction conditions. To evaluate the effective PHB degradation ability under nutrient-deficient conditions, PHB film degradation was performed in mineral medium, resulting in a PHB degradation rate of 98.71% for B. infantis PD3, which was confirmed in 5 d. Physical changes in the degraded PHB films were analyzed. The decrease in molecular weight due to biodegradation was confirmed using gel permeation chromatography and surface erosion of the PHB film was observed using scanning electron microscopy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study on B. infantis showing its excellent PHB degradation ability and is expected to contribute to PHB commercialization and industrial composting.
논문 : 초등학교 저학년 영양교육 학습 자료의 디자인 방향 설정에 관한 연구

오늘날 아동 비만의 위험성과 영양불균형이 사회적 문제로 떠오르면서 국내에서도 식생활 및 영양정보를 다루는 교육용 콘텐츠·자료 개발이 다양한 형태로 시도되고 있으며 그 중요도가 높아지고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 초등학교 저학년 학생을 대상으로 아동이 학교에서 이루어지는 영양교육과 연계하여 자기 주도적으로 학습하고, 습득한 지식을 실생활에 적용하여 올바르고 균형 있는 식생활을 할 수 있도록 하기 위한 맞춤형 영양교육 학습자료를 디자인 방향을 설정하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 선행연구 및 문헌조사등을 바탕으로 초등학교 저학년 영양교육에 대한 이론적 고찰을 시행하고, 의료·교육·디자인계 전문가 자문을 통해 저학년 아동을 대상으로 실행될 설문조사를 위한 문항 요소를 도출하여 서울시와 경남 창원시 소재의 초등학교 2곳의 1, 2학년 어린이 110명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 평가 결과, 저학년 아동은 영양교육에 대해 긍정적인 반응을 보였으며, 멀티미디어 기반의 컨텐츠를 활용한 학습 유형과 퀴즈활동을 선호하고, 칼로리 조절 식사에 관하여 학습하고자 하는 의향이 있었다. 학습 자료 디자인요소에 대해서는 주황, 초록 계열의 색과 고딕류 서체를 선호하였으며, 영양에 대한 정보 표현법으로는 실제의 모습과 흡사한 그림체와 수치측량법 사용에 긍정적인 의견을 나타냈다. 이를 바탕으로 초등학교 저학년인 1,2학년 학생들의 눈높이에 맞춘 자기주도학습 영양교육자료 디자인의 방향성을 설정하였다. As childhood obesity and nutrition imbalance emerge as social issues in South Korea today , the development of education materials on diets and nutrition has become important and has been attempted in diverse ways. The present study was conducted on early elementary school students with the objective of establishing directions for the design of personalized nutrition education materials that can promote a proper, balanced diet for children through application in daily life of knowledge acquired from self-learning linked to nutrition education that is taking place in their schools. For this purpose, a review of previous theoretical literature on nutrition education for early elementary students was performed. Survey questions were formulated based on the advice of field experts in medicine, education, and design and the survey was conducted among 110 children from 1st and 2nd grade in two elementary schools, one in Seoul and the other in Changwon. The results obtained from the user evaluation suggested that the early elementary school students showed positive reaction to nutrition education, had preference for the type of learning using multimedia-based contents and quiz activities, were willing to learn about calorie-adjusted meals, preferred the Gothic typeface and orange and green colors. Furthermore, they showed positive opinion on the use of numerical surveying method and pictorial style similar to actual appearance in connection with nutrition-related information representation. and preferences regarding learning styles and design elements
