We have designed and synthesized a variety of monomers and catalysts applicable to the functional polymers such as no shrinkage materials, latent initiators, and cyclic compounds of ring-opening polymerizability by ionic and/or radical initiators. We have also developed the synthetic methods of sustainable polymers such as chemical recycling system based on equilibrium polymerization and phosgene-free methods to synthesize polyurethanes and polypeptides based on chemical fixation of carbon dioxide from the viewpoints of green chemistry. Particularly, developing new methodology of polypeptide synthesis has afforded well-defined polymer-polypeptide hybrid materials for various bio-applications. One of the most efficient routes is a ring-opening polymerization of α-amino acid N-carboxyanhydrides (NCAs), permitting the preparation of well-defined structures in terms of the molecular weight and terminal structures of the polypeptide. However, highly toxic phosgene derivatives are usually required for the synthesis of NCAs, and the susceptive nature of NCAs to moisture and heating are major obstacles for its practical and industrial-scale use. In this work, we demonstrate a phosgene-free synthesis of polypeptide by polycondensation of N-aryloxycarbonyl α-amino acids, where these activated urethane derivatives gives directly corresponding polypeptides by forming NCAs in situ and the polymerization with the elimination of phenol and carbon dioxide. Due to the ease of handling and the simple procedure, this methodology for making a functionalized polypeptide is more useful and valuable than the conventional ring-opening polymerization of NCAs, and expected to be applied to designing the biocompatible and biodegradable biomaterials.

Objective: This study was aimed to report the clinical characteristics of intramedullary schwannomas and discuss imaging findings and treatment strategies. Methods: The inclusion criterion was consecutive patients with intramedullary schwannomas who were surgically treated at 8 centers between 2009 and 2020. Clinical characteristics included age, sex, clinical presentation, disease duration, and follow-up period. The modified McCormick scale was used to compare the preoperative and postoperative conditions. Pre- and postoperative magnetic resonance images (MRI) of each case were analyzed. Results: The mean age of the total 11 patients at the operation was 50.2 years. The mean duration of the symptoms was 23 months, with limb paresthesia being the most common clinical presentation. The cervical spine was the most common localization level of the tumor in 6 cases. The mean follow-up duration was 49.4 months. Gross total resection (GTR) and subtotal resection (STR) was achieved in 9 and 2 cases, respectively. According to the modified McCormick scale at 6 months postoperatively, 7 cases (63.6%) had improved and 4 cases (36.3%) had unchanged grades. Typical MRI findings of the intramedullary schwannoma included ring-like enhancement, syringomyelia, cystic formation, intramedullary edema, and hemosiderin deposition. Gadolinium enhancement was homogenous in 8 cases (72.7%). The tumor margins were well demarcated in all cases. Conclusion: Intramedullary schwannoma should be considered when sharp margins and well-enhanced tumors are present at the cervical spine level and the initial symptoms are relatively mild, such as dysesthesia. When GTR cannot be achieved, STR for tumor decompression is recommended.

In this research, we propose an energy-efficient predictive control system with outside-air-introduced-type air conditioner in large-scale data center. The system consists of two parts; a predictive part and a control part. We propose to use a dynamic model construction technique called just-in-time (JIT) modeling in the predictive part. It can estimate the air temperature and humidity in the DC room and temperature at the inlet of servers at a high accuracy while the update of data center model is constructed naturally. We also propose to use a control algorithm that utilizes air enthalpy at outside and DC room in addition to the air temperature and humidity in the control part. Owing to the enthalpy, we achieve an effective energy-saving with both wet and dry air. We introduced this predictive control system to a large-scale data center and had verified the improvement in the energy-saving performance for few month. The air temperature and humidity after one hour could be successfully estimated with an accuracy of correlation coefficient of 0.97 or more using the proposed JIT modeling. Furthermore, we demonstrated that the power consumption of the DC room was significantly reduced by 28.9% using the proposed control algorithm compared to that of the conventional control algorithm.
Synthesis of Soluble Oligo(spiroorthocarbonate)s and Their Application to Networked Polymers

A series of soluble oligo(spiroorthocarbonate)s (OSOCs) were synthesized by polycondensation of tetraethylorthocarbonate with pentaerythritol derivatives. The pentaerythritol derivatives used herein were synthesized from pentaerythritol by attaching substituents on it to improve the solubility of themselves and the resulting OSOCs. The OSOCs were employed as comonomers in the cationic polymerization of epoxide initiated by sulfonium salt. The resulting volume changes during the copolymerization were evaluated. As a result, the spiroorthocarbonate moiety of OSOCs underwent double ring-opening reaction, leading to the efficient diminution of the volume shrinkage upon the copolymerization.

Our laboratories have studied radical ring-opening polymerizations of many vinylcyclopropane (VCP) derivatives which consists of one vinyl group and cyclohexane ring. Those polymerizations proceed to afford resulting polymers with carbon-carbon double bonds in the main chain. Recently, we have successfully synthesized diamine as a bifunctional monomer bearing VCP moiety. Main topics of this presentation are synthesis of reactive polyurea bearing VCP moiety in the main chain by polyaddition of the above-mentioned diamine with diisocyanate and its cross linking with multifunctional thiols in the presence of AIBN to synthesize networked polymers with carbon-carbon double bonds.

Recently, we have reported that polyaddition of various diisothiocyanates and dithiols is achieved with triethylamine in DMF at 25 °C for 12 h under nitrogen atmosphere to obtain the corresponding polydithiourethanes (PDTU) in higher yield and molecular weight. Particularly, PDTU containing an aliphatic moiety in the main-chain exhibited excellent optical and mechanical properties compared to that of typical polyurethanes. In this study, aliphatic PDTUs were synthesized from various diisothiocyanates and dithiols having a difference of carbon number, and then the chemical and physical properties of the obtained PDTUs such as solvent solubility, glass transition temperature, thermal stability, transparency, refractive index, and tensile strength, were analyzed in detail by GPC, NMR, IR-ATR, UV-vis, DSC, TGA, tensile testing measurements. Moreover, the cast films obtained from multifunctional multifunctional isothiocyanate and thiols exhibited excellent chemical and physical properties.

本硏究は、佐野市が抱える課題解決のために設立された「さのまちづくり株式會社」設立經緯と事業槪要をフィ一ルドリサ一チ(field research)の手法を用いて分析した事例硏究である。 本事例硏究は、「さのまちづくり株式會社」4つの優先順位に基づく事業內容として、(1)まちづくり計畵と街幷み保存による、交流人口·定住人口の增加を狙うこと、(2)情報發信廣告事業、テナント募集事業などにより運營資金の增加を狙うこと、(3)イベントの企畵運營などにより活性化を狙うこと、(4)レンタルサイクル事業により活性化を狙うこと、という特性を提示すると共に、まちづくり會社等の主な活動の類型化を通して、ベンチマ一キングのSPDLIモデルに基づく「稼げるシステム化によるまちづくりの創生戰略」を探究したものである。 This article is a case study which analyzes the establishment and the business outline of Sano Machi-zukuri Corporation, a community development joint-stock corporation established for the purpose of solving social problems in the city of Sano. The analysis was done using a field research method. The study analyzed the following four parts of the business: 1. community development planning, including the maintenance of rows of houses and stores, for the purpose of increasing population and the amount of visitors 2. advertising and the dissemination of information about Sano to visitors and prospective tenants to increase working funds 3. the planning and management of new events in Sano, to revitalize the city 4. providing rental bicycle facilities for visitors We categorized these business elements as soft business or hard, and treated Akihabara Town Management Co. as a bench mark, based on the SPDLI model. Finally, we investigated strategies for systematizing the elements of community development for the purpose of profitable regional revitalization management.
