        Anterior Cage Migration during Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

        Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) is a popular procedure for patients with lumbar instability with unilateral foraminal stenosis. Many complications can occur during the procedure. However, cage migration during the procedure is rarely reported. Anterior cage migrations can lead to catastrophic consequences due to the possibility of major vessel injuries. Here, we present a 76-year-old male patient whose cage extruded anteriorly during L5-S1 TLIF. Fortunately, he did not experience any life-threatening complications, and the migrated cage was visible just below the iliac vessels’ bifurcation site on computed tomography angiography. As an alternative, an emergency anterior lumbar interbody fusion was successfully performed, and the TLIF cage was removed during this procedure.

        This study focuses on depicting images, like those on cigarette packs, on safety and health signs. To this end, a survey was conducted, followed by a word cloud analysis. The results indicated that illustrating the cost of cigarettes on safety and health signs helps to increase awareness of the associated risks.

      • 개념도 방법론을 활용한 대학신입생의 상담요구 분석

        본 연구의 목적은 발달적 전환과 대학생활로의 변화에 당면한 대학신입생의 상담요구를 개념도 방법론(concept mapping)으로 분석하여 그 내용과 중요도를 이해하고 상담서비스 제공의 기초자료를 제공하는데 있다. 이를 위해 J대학교 1학년 총 15명을 대상으로 초점질문을 담은 반구조화 질문지와 브레인스토밍을 실시하여 총 100개의 최종 진술문을 만들었다. 최종 진술문을 연구 참여자가 분류 및 평정을 하여 집단 유사성 행렬표(GSM)를 만들고 다차원척도법(ALSCAL)과 위계적 군집분석(Ward의 방법)을 실시하여 개념도를 작성하였다. 연구 결과 대학신입생의 상담요구는 ‘독립적 자의식 및 성공에 대한 압박감’, ‘학업관리의 어려움’, ‘자기조절능력 요구’, ‘대학에 들어와 당면한 현실적 문제’, ‘성인초기 적응의 어려움’, ‘대학생활 부적응으로 인한 자신감 저하’의 6군집으로 범주화되며 이들은 환경 영역 vs 개인 내적 영역, 행동 변화 및 적응 영역 vs 정서 영역으로 구분된다. 본 연구 결과는 대학 신입생의 상담요구 이해 및 상담서비스 제공과 프로그램 개발의 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다. The purpose of this study is to find the importance and contents of counseling needs of university freshmen facing developmental changes and transitions into university life by the concept mapping method. To implement this survey, 15 subjects from J University freshmen have written a total of 100 final statements in the semi-structured questionnaire and by their brainstorming. Those data have gone through the classification and evaluation so that the group similarity matrix has been created together with a concept mapping by the multidimensional scale analysis and hierarchical Cluster Analysis. The results have shown that six different clusters ( cluster 1: independent self-consciousness, and the pressure for success , Cluster 2: difficult Management of academics, cluster 3: self-regulation skills required , Cluster 4: practical issues after college admission, cluster 5: difficult adaption of early adulthood, cluster 6: diffidence due to poor college maladjustment) and two dimensions ( environmental-private sectors , behavioral change and adaptation sectors-emotional area ) have been shown through concept-mapping. This result will be used to understand the needs for counseling of university freshmen and be utilized to apply as a basis reasonable and realistic data, as well as to provide counseling services and basic data for program development.

        1분과 : 토양 코어 및 미니라이조트론을 이용한 소나무 임분의 세근 바이오매스 연구

        본 연구는 소나무 임분을 대상으로 토양 코어 샘플링과 미니라이조트론 방법을 이용하여 세근의 분포를 파악하고, 미니라이조트론 자료를 세근 바이오매스로 환산할 수 있는 변환계수와 회귀식을 개발하는 목적으로 수행되었다. 토양 코어 샘플링은 2012년 10월부터 2013년 9월까지 겨울을 제외하고 매월 1회씩 총 9회 실시하여 세근 바이오매스를 측정하였고, 미니라이조트론을 이용하여 2013년 5월부터 8월까지 매월 1회씩 총 4회 세근 표면적을 측정하였다. 0-30 cm 토양 깊이에서 세근 바이오매스와 표면적은 지표에 가까울수록 유의하게 높았으며, 계절별 바이오매스(kg ha-1)는 여름(3,762.4)과 봄(3,398.0)에 가을(2,551.6)보다 유의하게 높은 값을 보였다. 이와 같은 토양 깊이별 분포는 토양의 양분, 용적밀도 그리고 온도 등의 차이 때문으로 사료되며, 계절적 경향은 대기 온도 및 토양 온도 변화에 의해 나타나는 것으로 보인다. 또한 토양 깊이별 세근 표면적과 바이오매스 사이의 변환계수를 구하고, 이를 통하여 미니라이조트론 자료를 환산한 세근 바이오매스와 토양 코어 샘플링 자료인 실측값 사이의 선형회귀식(y = 79.7 + 0.93x, R2= 0.81)을 개발하였다. 본 연구에서 개발된 변환계수 및 회귀식은 추후 국내 소나무림의 장기적인세근 동태를 추정하는데 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. Fine root distribution was investigated in Pinus densiflora stands using soil core sampling andminirhizotrons, and conversion factors and regression equations were developed for converting minirhizotrondata into fine root biomass. Fine root biomass was measured by soil core sampling from October, 2012 to September, 2013 once a month except for the winter, and surface area of fine roots was estimated byminirhizotrons from May to August, 2013 once a month. Fine root biomass and surface area were significantly higher in the upper soil layers than in the lower soil layers. Fine root biomass showed seasonal patterns; the mean fine root biomass (kg ha-1) in summer (3,762.4) and spring (3,398.0) was significantly higher than that in autumn (2,551.6). Vertical and seasonal patterns of fine root biomass might be related to the soil bulk density, nutrient content and temperature with soil depth, and seasonal changes of soil and air temperature. Conversion factors (CF) between fine root surface area from minirhizotron data and fine root biomass from soil core sampling were developed for the three soil depths. Then a linear regression equation was developed between the predicted fine root biomass using CF and the measured fine root biomass (y = 79.7 + 0.93x, R2= 0.81). We expect to estimate the long-term dynamics of fine roots using CF and regression equation for P. densifloraforests in Korea.

        치아우식 저항성군과 감수성군의 Streptococcus mutans에 대한 혈청과 이하선 타액의 자연항체 수준

        The levels of serum and parotid salivary antibodies from dental caries resistant(CR) (DMFT=0) and caries-susceptible(CS) (DMFT≥10) subjects to Streptococcus mutans were determined. In addition, the ability of serum and saliva containing these antibodies to neutralize S. mutans virulence activities was tested. S. mutans cells to be used as antigens were grown in either non-dialyzed or dialyzed Todd-Hewitt medium. The antibody titers were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay. The level of serum IgG antibody to S. mutans whole cell antigen was significantly higher in CR individuals than in CS subjects. This difference in antibody levels between CR and CS groups was observed only when the whole cell antigen was prepared in dialyzed medium. No difference in salivary antibody levels was detected between the two groups. The sera and salivas were found not to be able to neutralize the virulence activities of this organism. The present study suggests that anti-S. mutans IgG antibodies in human serum have a role in the control of dental caries.

        구강 Streptococci의 적혈구와 타액 유도응집 및 하이드록시아파타이트에의 부착에 관한 연구

        As a part of a series of investigation on the mechanisma of adherence to tooth and oral soft tissues treptococcus mutans and S. sanguis, the two important microorganisms of oral streptococci, a study was carried out to screen laboratory strains and fresh isolates of both S. mutans and S. sanguis in terms of their adherence to the saliva-coated hydroxyapatite, hemagglutination, and salivary agglutination. The following data were obtained. a. The adherence of S. mutans strains to hydroxyapatite was inhibited by saliva, whereas saliva enhanced the adherence to hydroxyapatite of most of the S. sanguis strains tested. S. sanguis strain 66 49 was shown to have a property to adhere well to hydroxyapatite even in the absence of saliva, whereas the S_1 strain, one of fresh S. sanguis isolates was identified as a bacterium whose adherence was strongly enhanced by saliva. b. Many more strains of S. mutans showed positive hemagglutination reaction compared to the strains of S. sanavis. Among the positive strains, S. mutans M5 and S. sanguis S5 showed the highest hemagglutination titers. c. Salivary agglutination reactions were positive in all of the strains tested, and those strains which showed the highest agglutination titers were S. mutans OMZ175 and M2, S. sanguis MPC1 and 66 49. d. No correlation in 3 reactions was observed among the bacterial strains tested.

      • Micro Cell Incubator with On-Chip Integrated Carbon Dioxide Generator as a Self pH Controller

        <P>A novel micro cell incubator is described in this paper. pH of animal cell culture media must be tightly controlled, and this is accomplished by supplying defined concentration of carbon dioxide. In order to fabricate a small self-contained carbon dioxide supply unit, we adopted chemical production of carbon dioxide rather than compressed storage of the gas which requires huge tank. Carbon dioxide can be chemically produced by pyrolysis of sodium bicarbonate. The produced gas passes through a thin polymer membrane which is known to admit diffusion of gases. Liquid media separated from gas area by polymer membrane can uptake the gas, then. This micro cell incubator would be a suitable model for the development of portable and arrayed cell chips.</P>

        NREL 5MW 풍력터빈의 블레이드 하중 저감을 위한 개별피치제어

        풍력터빈이 점차 대형화 되면서 로터 직경도 점차 커지고 있다. 로터 블레이드는 윈드시어와 타워교란 효과로부터 기계적 하중을 받게 된다. 이러한 기계적 하중은 풍력터빈의 수명을 단축시킨다. 따라서, 풍력터빈의 크기가 커짐에 따라 기계적 하중 완화를 위한 풍력터빈 제어 시스템 설계가 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 로터 블레이드의 기계적 하중 저감을 위한 개별 피치 제어에 대해 소개하고 IPC 성능 검증을 위해 시뮬레이션을 통하여 논의한다. As the size of a wind turbine increases, the rotor diameter increases. Rotor blades experience mechanical loads caused by the wind shear and the tower shadow effect. These mechanical loads reduce the life of the wind turbine. Therefore, with increasing size of the wind turbine, wind turbine control system design for the mitigation of mechanical loads is important. In this study, Individual Pitch Control in introduced for reducing the mechanical loads of rotor blades, and a simulation for IPC performance verification is discussed.
