Predatory efficacy of Orius strigicollis (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) against Tetranychus urticae (Acarina: Tetranychidae) on strawberry

        Shu-Jen Tuan,Yung-Hsiang Lin,Shu-Chen Peng,Wei-Han Lai 한국응용곤충학회 2016 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.19 No.1

In this study, the predatory efficacy of Orius strigicollis (Poppius), a predacious flower bug, against the twospotted spider mite (TSSM), Tetranychus urticae Koch, on strawberry (Fragaria ananassa) was investigated. Our results showed that release of 2, 4, 6, and 12 neonates of O. strigicollis per strawberry plant could suppress 58.9, 72.6, 88.6, and 92.8% of T. urticae, respectively, at 14 days after treatment. A single release of 12 neonate bugs per plant achieved and maintained, over a period of 3 months, 82% to 98% control of T. urticae population. A biweekly release of 6 neonate bugs per plant; likewise, suppressed ca. 90% of T. urticae population throughout the same period. However, predatory efficacy was reduced by an over-release of predators which may cause cannibalism as well as lower possibility of finding prey. Since the released neonates survived well to adults with offspring that retained their predatory ability, this study has demonstrated that O. strigicollis is a predatorwith good potential for sustainable suppression of T. urticae on strawberry, and one application of O. strigicollis neonates at a predator:prey ratio of 1:200 egg plus motile TSSM or 1:60 motiles per strawberry plant promises a season-long control and substantial management of spider mite infestation.

Sequence Pulse Modulation for Voltage Balance in a Cascaded H-Bridge Rectifier

Peng, Xu,He, Xiaoqiong,Han, Pengcheng,Lin, Xiaolan,Shu, Zeliang,Gao, Shibin The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2017 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.17 No.3

With the development of multilevel converters, cascaded single-phase H-bridge rectifiers (CHBRs) has become widely adopted in high-voltage high-power applications. In this study, sequence pulse modulation (SPM) is proposed for CHBRs. SPM is designed to balance the dc-link voltage and maintain the smooth changes of switch states. In contrast to phase disposition modulation, SPM balances the dc-link voltage even after removing the load of one submodule. The operation principle of SPM is deduced, and the unbalance degree of SPM is analyzed. All the proposed approaches are experimentally verified through a prototype of a four-module (nine-level) CHBR. Conclusions are drawn in accordance with the results of SPM and its imbalance degree analysis.

Protein profiling predicts the response to anthracycline and taxanes based neo-adjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer

        Shu Wang,Houpu Yang,Jiajia Guo,Miao Liu,Fuzhong Tong,Yingming Cao,Bo Zhou,Peng Liu,Lin Cheng,Fei Xie,Deqi Yang,Jiaqing Zhang 한국바이오칩학회 2011 BioChip Journal Vol.5 No.1

Neo-adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer substantially benefits patients who achieve pathological response. However, clinical or pathological response information can only be obtained a period of time after chemotherapy. The identification of novel bio-markers or the application of new technique that can be used to predict treatment response before che-motherapy would allow therapy to be tailored on an individual patient basis. The purpose of this study is to identify the chemo-sensitivity and chemo-resistance related proteins using antibody microarray profiling, and to develop a multi-protein predictive model for breast cancer. Total protein was extracted from core needle biopsy samples obtained from 15 patients before treatment with neo-adjuvant TA(combination of taxanes and anthracycline) chemotherapy. Protein profiling was analyzed by antibody microarray. 10 pati-ents were used as training set to develop the predictive model using the software PAM(prediction analysis of microarray). Another 5 patients were used as a validation set to test the model. In cross-validation, the mole-cular predictive model showed an accuracy of 90%, in independent validation, the model classified the cases with an accuracy of 80%. In conclusion, the proteomic predictive model has the potential to predict pathological response to neo-adjuvant TA chemotherapy.

Glycosylation and Production Characteristics of Epothilones in Alkali-Tolerant Sorangium cellulosum Strain So0157-2

        Lin Zhao,Peng-fei Li,Chun-hua Lu,Shu-guang Li,Yue-mao Shen,Yue-zhong Li 한국미생물학회 2010 The journal of microbiology Vol.48 No.4

3-O-α-D-ribofuranosyl epothilone A (epothiloneoside A) is a major component of glycosylated epothilones in Sorangium cellulosum strain So0157-2. The production and glycosylation ratios of epothiloneoside A in both solid and liquid culture conditions with various pH values and carbon sources were studied. The results showed that glycosylation occurs whenever epothilones are produced, regardless of changes in pH values, production time curves, and different carbon sources. We suggest that glycosylation is a stable process, paralleling the biosynthesis of epothilones in the So0157-2 strain.

Preparation and Study on Thermal Conductive Composites of Chlorinated Polyethylene Rubber Reinforced by Boron Nitride Particles

        Junjie Shu,Ru Xia,Jiasheng Qian,JIBIN MIAO,LIFEN SU,Ming Cao,Hongyun Lin,Peng Chen,Jinyang Chen 한국고분자학회 2016 Macromolecular Research Vol.24 No.7

The composites of chlorinated polyethylene rubber (CM) filled with boron nitride (BN) were prepared and examined systematically. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to observe microscopic morphology of composites. Mechanical properties of composites were analyzed by a rubber process analyzer (RPA) and dynamic mechanical thermal analyzer (DMTA). Thermal conductivity as well as thermo stability of composites was improved by adding BN particles into the CM rubber. It was found that BN particles can reinforce the rubber matrix while they also break down the network of polymer chains and ruin the physical properties of the rubber matrix. During the dynamic compressing process, BN particles can transfer heat from the matrix and alleviate the heat build-up phenomenon. The BN/CM composites (volume content CBN=18%) with thermal conductivity 1.179 W/(m·K) and good flexibility (Elongation at break=320%) were prepared, which may be used as thermal interface materials in a dynamic compressing process.

Comparing eight types of ginsenosides in ginseng of different plant ages and regions using RRLC-Q-TOF MS/MS

        Yu-Lin Dai,Meng-Dan Qiao,Peng Yu,Fei Zheng,Hao Yue,Shu-Ying Liu 고려인삼학회 2020 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.44 No.2

Background: This article aims to compare and analyze the contents of ginsenosides in ginseng ofdifferent plant ages from different localities in China. Methods: In this study, 77 fresh ginseng samples aged 2e4 years were collected from 13 differentcultivation regions in China. The content of eight ginsenosides (Rg3, Rc, Rg1, Rf, Rb2, Rb1, Re, and Rd) wasdetermined using rapid resolution liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupoleetime-of-flighttandem mass spectrometry (RRLC-Q-TOF MS/MS) to comparatively evaluate the influences of cultivationregion and age. Results: Ginsenoside contents differed significantly depending on age and cultivation region. The contentsof ginsenosides Re, Rc, Rg1, Rg3, and Rf increased with cultivation age, whereas that of ginsenoside Rb1peaked in the third year of cultivation. Moreover, the highest ginsenoside content was obtained fromChangbai (19.36 mg/g) whereas the lowest content was obtained from Jidong (12.05 mg/g). Ginseng fromJilin Province contained greater total ginsenosides and was richer in ginsenoside Re than ginseng of thesame age group in Heilongjiang and Liaoning provinces, where Rb1 and Rg1 contents were relatively high. Conclusion: In this study, RRLC-Q-TOF MS/MS was used to analyze ginsenoside contents in 77 ginsengsamples aged 2e4 years from different cultivation regions. These patterns of variation in ginsenosidecontent, which depend on harvesting location and age, could be useful for interested parties to chooseginseng products according to their needs.

Study on stability and design guidelines for the combined system of scaffolds and shores

        Jui-Lin Peng,Chung-Sheng Wang,Shu-Hong Wang,Siu-Lai Chan 국제구조공학회 2020 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.35 No.3

Since the scaffold is composed of modular members, the total height of multi-story scaffolds does not often meet with the headroom of construction buildings. At this time, other supporting members need to be set up on the top of scaffolds. However, the mechanical behaviors of the combined system of scaffolds and other supporting members have seldom been discussed. This study explores the stability of the combined system of scaffolds and shores. The loading tests conducted in the laboratory show that the critical load of the combined system of two-story scaffolds and wooden shores is about half that of the three-story scaffold system with the same height. In the failure of both the “scaffold system” and the “combined system of scaffolds and shores’ after loading, the deformation mainly occurs in the in-plane direction of the scaffold. The outdoor loading test shows that no failure occurs on any members when the combined system fails. Instead, the whole system buckles and then collapses. In addition, the top formwork of the combined system can achieve the effect of lateral support reinforcement with small lateral support forces in the outdoor loading test. This study proposes the preliminary design guidelines for the scaffolding structural design.

CD4/CD8 Ratio: An Independent Predictor of Herpes Zoster in Patients With Autoimmune Inflammatory Rheumatic Diseases

        Liu Peng-Cheng,Peng Yi-Lin,Li Jian-Bin,Lv Meng-Na,Yu Shu-Jiao,Wu Rui 대한피부과학회 2024 Annals of Dermatology Vol.36 No.3

Background: A higher incidence of herpes zoster (HZ) was found in people with decreased cell-mediated immunity. However, the relationship between cellular immunity and HZ infec- tion in patients with autoimmune inflammator y rheumatic diseases (AIRD) remains elusive. Objective: To investigate the role of CD4/CD8 ratio in patients with AIRD and HZ. Methods: This case-control study compared AIRD patients with and without HZ. We chose 70 AIRD patients with HZ as the experimental group and 140 AIRD patients without HZ as the control group. The clinical and laborator y findings were assessed in each trial participant. Results: The CD4/CD8 ratio (odds ratio [OR], 0.22; 95% confidence inter val [CI], 0.10–0.49) was independently associated with the occurrence of HZ after adjusting for various confounders. Nonlinear analysis has unveiled a more profound nonlinear relationship between the CD4/CD8 ratio and the occurrence of HZ in patients with AIRD. The OR of HZ increased with a decreasing CD4/CD8 ratio before the turning point of 2. The adjusted regression coefficient was 0.14 (95% CI, 0.05–0.37, p<0.0001) for CD4/CD8 ratio less than 2. Conclusion: The CD4/CD8 ratio was expected to be a ver y promising quantitative biomarker for predicting the risk of developing HZ in patients with AIRD.
