A long-chain n-alkane-using microorganism was isolated from a soil sample, and was identified to belong to genus Acinetobactor. This strain Ma-1 grew on n-alkanes ranging in carbon length from C_(13) to C_(44) as a sole carbon source. This strain could grow on the solid hydrocarbons without addition of any detergents. The growth and the hydrocarbon use were enhanced by the addition of a surface active agent, Plysurf A210G. A strain Ma-I culture isolated in our laboratory has been shown to produce an extracellular biopolymer with emulsifying properties when grown on a mixture of linear hydrocarbons. The substrates supporting good growth gave good polymer production. The polymers recovered from the substrates were found to be complex molecules or mixtures with a protein, a lipid, and a carbohydrate moiety.

군항공기사고조사의 전문성과 독립성을 제고하기 위하여 상설사고조사기구를 신설하여야 한다. 상설조사기구를 신설함으로써 조사기구의 위상을 높이고 조사의 신뢰성을 확보할 수 있다. 민과 군이 모두 관련된 사고조사 시 민과 군의 조사권한의 주체, 업무협조 등에 관한 규율이 부재하고 있으므로 이를 입법화해야 한다. 군과 관련된 민항공기 사고조사 시 군의 전문가들이 참여함이 바람지하다. 조사의 실효성 보장을 위하여 항공사고에 대한 정보를 직접 수집하는 조사관의 활동을 보장하는 규정을 마련해야 한다. 또한, 사고조사의 목적은 오직 사고예방에만 있으므로 정보의 공개범위를 제한하고 조사결과를 형사절차나 징계절차에서 사용할 수 없도록 하여 조사의 객관성을 확보해야 할 것이다. In an effort to enhance the independence of and expertise in military aircraft accident investigation, a permanet accident investigation board should be established. Estabilishing permanent accident investigation board would render the military accident investigation more reliable and would increase its public esteem. Because there is no provision governing the responsibilities of theinvestigation and cooperation between civil and military authority in case that both civil and military aircraft are involved, it is necessary to fill this gap by enacting appropriate laws. In case of civil aircraft accident investigation involving a military issue, it would be better to allow military authority to be involved in the investigation. For the betterment of investigation, it is also necessary to provide a field investigator an authority to directly coolect relevant information. Since the sole purpose of accident investigation is to prevent the recurrence of aircraft accidents, the scope of information disclosure should be limited and the investigation report shall be used for neither criminal procedure nor disciplinary procedure so that the objectivity of the investigation should be ensured.

The various components and antimicrobial activities of Pona cocos were studied to obtain the basic data as giving many applications. In the results of analysis of fatty acids compositions, it consist of stearic acid as saturated fatty acid, and oleic acid, linoleic acid as unsaturated one. The Pona cocos was extracted with methanoi and its extracts were determined to be antimicrobial activities against bacteria and yeast. Methanoi extracts of the Poria cocos showed stronger antimicrobial activities on Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis. Bacillus subtilis, Micrococcus luteus, Leuconostoc mesenteroides, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa than control, benzoic acid. In conclusion, Poria cocos extracts showed antimicrobial activities and will be required to isolate and identify substance with antimicrobial activity as functional materials.

군용항공기지법은 비행안전구역을 설정하여 각 구역별 표면높이 이상의 장애물 설치를 금지하고 있다. 비행안전구역은 항공기의 비행안전을 확보하기 위해서 설정된 것이다. 그러나, 우리의 경우 좁은 국토여건을 감안, 비행안전구역을 6구역까지만 축소 설정하여 계기비행절차와 관련된 비행안전상의 문제점이 있다. 계기비행절차가 수립되어 있는 영역 중 일부에 대하여는 비행안전구역이 설정되지 않아 아무런 고도제한을 가할 수 없는 것이다. 본고에서는 이러한 문제인식을 출발점으로 삼아, 비행안전과 관련된 비행안전구역 외곽에서의 고도제한 문제를 다루고 있다. 우선 군용항공기지법상의 비행안전구역과 각 국의 비행안전구역 설정 현황을 검토하였다. 이를 토대로 현행법이 안고 있는 문제점을 논의하였다. 문제점을 해결하기 위해서는 비행안전ㄱ역 밖의 일정 영역에 대하여도 고도제한을 할 필요성이 있다. 가장 바람직한 방안 검토를 위해 비행안전구역 밖에서도 고도제한에 대한 입례법을 참조하였다. 그 결과 여러 가지 입법안을 상정해 볼 수 있었고, 비행안전구역 밖의 일정 부분에서 일정 높이 이상의 건축을 허용하기 위해서는 비행안전심사를 거치도록 하는 것이 가장 바람직하다는 결론을 내려보았다. The Military Air base Law has designated imaginary surface, restricting the height of structure above the imaginary surface. The purpose of establishment of imaginary surface is to promote safety of aircraft operation. However, given the fact that the land is limited, the Military Airbase Law does not set up outer horizontal surface such that the reduced imaginary surface would undermin the safety of aircraft operations with respect to IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) procedures. The fact that some areas which IFR procedures require are not designated as imaginary surface results in no imposition of height restriction on such area. With regard to aviation safety, this article deals with issue of height restriction on area which is beyond the imaginary surface area. This article also examines the establishment of the imaginary surface in the Military Airbase Law, and conducts case study of imaginary surface systems in other country. Based upon this discussion, the current problems posed in the Military Airbase Law will be discussed. To resolve these problems, it is necessary to establish height restriction zone beyond the current imaginary surface area. The provisions of ICAO, FAA and other counties in relation with this issue are referred as well. As a result, many different proposals are suggested, and it is concluded as the most effective proposal that, in certain zone beyond the imaginary surface area, an aeronautic study should be required for the purpose of ensuring aviation safety before a permit of construction higher than prescribed height is issued.

<P>Four new and five known sesquiterpenoids were isolated from the agarwood of <I>Aquilaria malaccensis</I>. Aquilanols A and B (<B>1</B> and <B>2</B>) have an unprecedented macrocyclic humulene structure with a bicyclic 7/10 ring system. Compound <B>2</B> was obtained as a scalemic mixture that was resolved by HPLC analysis using a chiral column. Their structures were deduced based on spectroscopic data analysis, and the absolute configurations were unambiguously determined by X-ray crystallographic data and ECD spectroscopic analysis. <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this study, we propose a high-performance direct ethanol fuel cell (DEFC) using nitrate reduction reaction with a carbon felt electrode (DEFC-HNO<SUB>3</SUB>) instead of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) on a Pt catalyst (DEFC-O<SUB>2</SUB>). The activation energy for the nitrate reduction reaction on the carbon electrode is found to be relatively low at ∼14.2 kJ mol<SUP>−1</SUP>, compared to the ORR. By using the nitrate reduction reaction at the cathode and oxidation of ethanol as a fuel at the anode, the DEFC shows a significantly high open circuit voltage of 0.85 V and two-fold maximal power density of 68 mW cm<SUP>−2</SUP> at 80 °C, compared to the DEFC-O<SUB>2</SUB>, due to the significantly fast reaction rate of the nitrate reduction reaction.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> We proposed a direct ethanol fuel cell using nitrate reduction reaction (DEFC-HNO<SUB>3</SUB>). </LI> <LI> The activation energy for the nitrate reduction reaction was lower than ORR. </LI> <LI> DEFC-HNO<SUB>3</SUB> showed significantly improved performance compared to DEFC-O<SUB>2</SUB>. </LI> <LI> The fast nitrate reduction reaction could result in the enhanced performance of DEFC. </LI> </UL> </P>
