<P>Investigations on the intrinsic properties of gas hydrates with multiple guests are essential to scientific and technological fields. In particular, even though evaluating and designing a hydrate phase process require isothermal phase equilibria, it is difficult to obtain extensive data with various components and compositions in a short period of time due to the static-analytic method. The present study introduces a new experimental determination on hydrate phase equilibria using continuous dissociation induced by extremely slow vapor volume expansion at a constant temperature. When a syringe pump is automatically operated at the microliter level during the dissociation process, the endothermic dissociation can be traced from the temperature readings. The validity and stability of the proposed technique were evaluated using pure CH<SUB>4</SUB> hydrates, and repeated measurements of three-phase (L<SUB>W</SUB>–H–V) equilibrium conditions are used to optimize the volumetric expansion rates. Then, an experimental approach is applied to incipient CH<SUB>4</SUB> + C<SUB>2</SUB>H<SUB>6</SUB> hydrates and identifies the structural transition behavior. This method is thought to provide extensive data and further improvements in terms of hydrate phase equilibria with multiple gas components.</P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/ef401072s'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

[Purpose] Functional beverages are intended to support those who want to maintain optimal physical condition and improve their quality of life through the enhancement of heart health, immunity, and digestion. The purpose of this study was to investigate the performance of top-level athletes consuming immune- strengthening conditioning nutritional drinks. [Methods] A total of 107 top-level athletes (baseball (56 players), pro volleyball (17), athletics (16), cycling (8), golf (6), and fencing (6)) participated in the experiment. They consumed an immune-enhancing functional beverage once a day for 8 weeks and responded to a survey before, during, and after drinking the beverage. [Results] Three total aspect-based subfactors were drawn from 24 questions in the factor analysis: physical, satisfaction with mental stability, and activity in performance. The physical, mental stability and performance changes of athletes significantly increased in period 2 (4 weeks after intake) and period 3 (after 8 weeks of intake). [Conclusion] We evaluated the efficacy of a new conditioned beverage containing Lactobacillus B240 and protein in improving the performance and physiological utility of top athletes. This functional drink may gain popularity among those seeking health benefits and improved exercise performance.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A perception system based on vehicle detection sensors, which are mounted on an ego vehicle, has restricted visibility because of blockage by obstacles. Estimating the risk of collision with moving vehicles in an occluded area is difficult because their locations and speeds cannot be detected. To address the occlusion problem, this paper proposes a probabilistic collision risk assessment method for a potential collision vehicle in an occluded area. The proposed method estimates the collision risk in three steps: occlusion boundary modeling of perception, motion prediction of the potential collision vehicles, and probabilistic collision risk assessment. The first step models the occlusion boundary to classify the free space and the unknown region. In the second step, the moving path of each potential collision vehicle is predicted considering its future behavior. The final step estimates the collision probability with a potential collision vehicle based on the speed distribution of the vehicles on the road. We evaluate the proposed probabilistic collision risk assessment method in several occlusion scenarios with real traffic, including an alleyway, a merging lane, and blockage by a bulky vehicle.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> This paper proposes probabilistic collision risk assessment for invisible vehicles. </LI> <LI> The movements of invisible vehicles are predicted by precise road geometry map. </LI> <LI> Collision risk probability is assessed by predicted path and stochastic speed model. </LI> <LI> The algorithm was evaluated in several real traffic scenarios such as intersections. </LI> </UL> </P>

[Purpose] Functional beverages are a protective or enhancing factor influencing not only public health but also athletic performance. The purpose of this study was to highlight the new conditioning beverage of the Lactobacillus pentosus strain b240 (B240) with electrolytes or proteins, which strengthens immune functions to improve the quality of life. [Methods] ISeveral related studies systematically reviews three main issues associated with conditioning beverages: (a) utilization and availability of the functional beverage; (b) significance of B240 in immune strengthening; and (c) availability and application of conditioning drinks in the daily life and sports field. [Results] Intake of B240 led to greater enhancements, including blood T-helper, NK cell, IgA and IgG level in conjunction with strengthen immune func-tions. These results speculated that the practical application of B240 contained beverages on physiological health and performance. [Conclusion] BODYMAINTÉ, this novel conditioning beverage is expected biological utility responsible for improved sports performance as a functional drink and has potential health-related implications.
