Citrus canker is a devastating disease of citrus caused by Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri (Xcc). A total of 134 endophytic bacteria were isolated from various gymnospermic and angiospermic plants. They were screened for their antagonistic activities against three wild-type and six streptomycin-resistant Xcc strains. TbL-22 and TbL-26, both later identified as Bacillus thuringiensis, inhibited all the wild and resistant Xcc strains. TbL-22 exerted the highest antagonistic activity against XccW3 and XccM6 with inhibition zones of $20.64{\pm}0.69$ and $19.91{\pm}0.87mm$, respectively. Similarly ethyl acetate extract of TbL-22 showed highest inhibition zones $15.31{\pm}2.08$ and $19.37{\pm}3.17mm$ against XccW3 and XccM6, respectively. TbL-22 reduced canker incidence on infected leaves by 64.05% relative to positive controls. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that the cell membranes of Xcc treated with ethyl acetate extract of TbL-22 were ruptured, lysed, and swollen. B. thuringiensis TbL-22 can effectively and sustainably controls streptomycin-resistant citrus canker.
Potent a-glucosidase and protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B inhibitors from Artemisia capillaris

As a part of our ongoing effort to identify antidiabeticconstituents from natural sources, we examined theinhibitory activity of the methanol extracts of 12 species of thegenus Artemisia, against a-glucosidase and protein tyrosinephosphatase 1B (PTP1B). The methanol extracts of differentspecies exhibited promising a-glucosidase and PTP1Binhibitory activities. Since the methanol extract of Artemisiacapillaris exhibited the highest a-glucosidase inhibitoryactivity together with significant PTP1B inhibitory activity, itwas selected for further investigation. Repeated columnchromatography based on bioactivity guided fractionationyielded 10 coumarins (esculetin, esculin, scopolin, isoscopolin,daphnetin, umbelliferone, 7-methoxy coumarin, scoparone,scopoletin, 6-methoxy artemicapin C), 8 flavonoids(hyperoside, quercetin, isorhamnetin, cirsilineol, arcapillin,isorhamnetin 3-robinobioside, linarin, isorhamnetin 3-glucoiside),6 phenolic compounds (1,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid,3,4-dicaffeoylquinic acid, 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid, 3,5-dicaffeoylquinicacid methyl ester, 4,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid,3-caffeoylquinic acid), and one chromone (capillarisin). Among these compounds, esculetin, scopoletin, quercetin,hyperoside, isorhamnetin, 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid methylester, 3,4-dicaffeoylquinic acid, and 1,5-dicaffeoylquinic acidexhibited potent a-glucosidase inhibitory activity whencompared to the positive control acarbose. In addition,esculetin and 6-methoxy artemicapin C displayed PTP1Binhibitory activity. Interestingly, all isolated dicaffeoylquinicacids showed significant PTP1B inhibitory activity. Therefore,the results of the present study clearly demonstrate thepotential of the A. capillaris extract to inhibit a-glucosidaseand PTP1B. These inhibitory properties can be largelyattributed to a combination of different chemical structures,including coumarins, flavonoids, and dicaffeoylquinic acids,which could be further explored to develop therapeutic orpreventive agents for the treatment of diabetes.

The use of pretreated petrochemical wastewater as provender wastewater for anaerobic degradationwas explored in a continuous stirred tank reactor with dairy and beef cattle manure, under bothmesophilic and thermophilic states. The co-digestion of the wastewaters contributed 50% enhancementin methane production, followed by a 98 ± 0.5% reduction in chemical oxygen demand at 10 days hydraulicretention time. No VFA aggregation was identified. In comparison with the digestion of PWW alone, methaneyield increased by 50–60% under mesophilic conditions and 50–65% under thermophilic conditions due toco-digestion.

Influence of flow rate variation on bio-energy generation during anaerobic co-digestion

The anaerobic biodegradability of a combination of petrochemical wastewater (PWW) and thickenedmanure activated sludge (TMAS) was measured with a 4.5 l pilot-scale continuous stirred tank reactor,ran at mesophilic (37 8C) condition. The anaerobic digestion, biogas generation, and energy assessmentwere analyzed for ten flow rates; 170, 220, 300, 370, 410, 475, 540, 600, 640 and 680 ml/day atmesophilic condition (37 8C). The analytical data revealed that the environmentally complied optimumflow rate was 370 ml/day, for bio-energy generation.

In this paper we describe an approach for template based detection and tracking of objects by chamfer matching in real time video. Detecting and tracking of any objects is the key problem in computer vision. In our case we try for hand and head of human for detection and tracking by chamfer matching technique. Matching involves correlating the templates with the distance transformed scene and determining the locations where the mismatch is below a certain user defined threshold.
