The Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Indonesia's Economy and Alternative Prospects for Untact Society

Lee, Kyungchan Korea Institute for ASEAN Studies 2021 Suvannabhumi Vol.13 No.2

This research is an attempt to understand the economic and social consequences that are occurring in Indonesia due to the spread of COVID-19. Indonesia, which has maintained solid economic growth since the inauguration of President Jokowi's government, is also experiencing difficulties to deal with unexpected COVID-19 pandemic as the global economic turmoil has had a very significant impact on its economy. The economic impact of COVID-19 can be felt, starting from the phenomenon of panic buying, the free fall of the stock price index, the depreciation of the Rupiah against the Dollar, sluggish activities in the processing industry, and ultimately it has an impact on slowing economic growth. Various policies and measures have been taken by the Indonesian government to minimize the negative impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy. One such area is electronic commerce business or e-commerce that witnessed a vast increase of online and non-cash transaction amid rising voices that the country needs to prepare for the advent of a new economic system, the so-called New Normal era. The Covid-19 pandemic will temporarily slow economic growth and delay some development projects and policy initiatives as the Indonesian government diverts capital from infrastructure development to help respond to the crisis. However, the Jokowi administration's efforts for continuous reform are expected to accelerate the transition to the digital economy.

A Comparative Study of Political Transition in Indonesia and Malaysia

        Kyungchan Lee(이경찬) 21세기정치학회 2004 21세기 정치학회보 Vol.14 No.2

As part of a wider comparative research of the democratic transition in Southeast Asia this paper seeks to compare the two unique cases of Suharto's Indonesia and Mahathir's Malaysia where the democratization process in the two countries in the late 1990s produced sharply contrasting results. In its comparative analysis of political transition in Indonesia and Malaysia, this paper takes legitimacy crisis as the common motive to propel transition in authoritarian regime. Its analytical focus is on the differing levels or degree of crises that led to contrasting responses on the part of the people as well as ruling elites in Indonesia and Malaysia. More specifically, this paper addresses following empirical questions: What were the causes of the transition process; How did the political transitions in the two countries evolve into different direction and what were the factors deciding that difference?

      • Sustainable poly(<i>ε</i>-decalactone)−poly(<small>L</small>-lactide) multiarm star copolymer architectures for thermoplastic elastomers with fixed molar mass and block ratio

        Lee, Sangjun,Lee, Kyungchan,Jang, Jeongmin,Choung, Ji Sun,Choi, Woo Jin,Kim, Geon-Joong,Kim, Young-Wun,Shin, Jihoon Elsevier 2017 Polymer Vol.112 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>To improve the thermal and mechanical properties of thermoplastic elastomers derived from plant-based monomers, a series of well-defined multiarm star block copolymers was investigated. Controlled bulk ring-opening polymerization of <I>ε</I>-decalactone (DL) with multiarm initiators yielded hydroxyl-terminated (PDL−OH) <I>n</I> , which were subsequently converted to (PDL−PLLA) <I>n</I> using <SMALL>L</SMALL>-lactide (LLA) through a one-pot, two-step process. The multiarm copolymers were designed for targeting on <I>M</I> n,NMR and <I>f</I> PLLA of 180 kg mol−1 and 0.27, respectively. Structural analysis proved that PLLA hard domains were thinner, and thus, more compact microphase-separated structures with hexagonally packed cylinders were induced by increasing <I>n</I>. Thermal and tensile property measurement demonstrated that, although the copolymers had a lower crystallinity in PLLA due to the shorter chain length, the thermal degradation stability and mechanical strength were enhanced, which was caused by to an amplified pinning effect caused by the more closed packed PLLA domains, in addition to chemical crosslinking of the PDL strands.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Renewable multiarm star block copolymers were prepared for thermoplastic elastomers. </LI> <LI> More compact microphase-separated structures were induced at Fixed <I>M</I> n and <I>f</I> PLLA. </LI> <LI> Thermal stability and mechanical properties were improved by increasing <I>n</I>. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Historical Consideration of the Transformation of Spatial Structure and Landscape Characteristics in Naju

Kyungchan Lee 전북대학교 휴양및경관계획연구소 2018 휴양및경관연구 (J East Asian Landscape Studies) Vol.12 No.3

This study aims to interpret the transformation of location, spatial structure, and landscape characteristics of the political and administrative center in Naju. Based on an analysis of the town plan using old maps, cadastral maps, excavation survey maps, and aerial images, the transformation process of the center is divided into three phases: first, the local structure centered on the Bannam area and Dashidl Bokamri area from the Mahan to Unified Silla period had a landscape characteristic of mixed mountain fortresses and surrounding living and burial areas. Second, the local structure centered on the Naju-wall in the Goryeo Dynasty whose administrative facilities and living spaces were distributed around the plain wall surrounding Kumseong Mountain, Youngsan River, and Naju River. Third, the local structure centered on Naju-eupseong in the Joseon period whose administrative facilities and living spaces were distributed in the wall had structural complexity with acidity and flatness. In particular, Naju-eupseong in the late Joseon period was completed through continuous reconstruction and expansion from the foundation of Naju-wall in the Goryeo Dynasty.

Interpretation of the Townscape of the Market Area in Hongju Eupseong based on the Urban Tissue

Kyungchan Lee,Inae Kang 전북대학교 휴양및경관계획연구소 2017 휴양및경관연구 (J East Asian Landscape Studies) Vol.11 No.4

This study aims to interpret the characteristics of the townscape of the market area in the Hongju Eupseong walled town based on the formation and transformation of modern urban tissue. Based on an analysis of the town plan using a cadastral map, land register, building management register, and aerial images, the change process of the urban tissue and townscape in the market area is divided into three phases: the expansion phase of the market’s function from the 1910s to 1940s, which featured an open market-based townscape; the declining phase of the market’s function from the 1940s to 1960s, which featured a route-shop-based townscape; and the expiration phase of the market’s function after the 1960s. More specifically, with the opening of roads, the functions of the open market gradually diminished from the 1940s on, and after the war, especially during the rapid urbanization of the 1960s, the market area changed into a roadside shop and inner residential area, and the foundation of the current townscape was fixed. Above all, it is noteworthy that since the 1960s, the urban tissue and townscape have formed on the foundation of the former open market based on Japanese capital.

This study examined ways of improving the internal insulation performance of aging university buildings, and to enhance the convenience of occupants in university buildings and the insulation effect of aging buildings. This research was conducted to solve the problem of continuous requests for improving the insulation performance of office workers in the Nehemiah Hall building of Handong University. The results showed that the internal temperature of Nehemiah Hall was low compared to the internal temperature of the adjacent building. Considering the characteristics of the building, the university chose insulating materials under the theme of internal insulation. The experiment was conducted by installing internal wall insulation used in the market by producing a model room that miniaturized the university professor"s office. Based on the experimental results, an economic evaluation was conducted to analyze the insulation effect by measuring the heating time and actual heat transmission coefficient. An economic evaluation was conducted by experiment and theory and on a winter and summer basis. According to the research, when an Isopink (30 T) was introduced as an internal insulation material in 60 offices of Nehemiah Hall, it could save up to 1,071,600 won in total during the winter season and 109,200 won during the summer season.
