Vol.31 No.1

This study figured out which aspect was shown in light of historical context as for works such as < Giselle > by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, which can be said to be the essence of romantic ballet, < Giselle > choreographed in 1982 by Mats Ek, and < She, Giselle > by James Jeon at Seoul Ballet Theatre, who re-analyzed it with 21C modern sense in our country. These three works were greatly influenced by historical characteristics at that time. Giselle in the 19th century contained a weak woman``s image, which was lost the female identity, while being noticeably indicated sociality at that time that had emphasized the social class. Mats Ek``s Giselle, which was contained the unique philosophy, expressed the happening a little more realistically that Giselle goes to a mental hospital in Act II. James Jeon``s < She, Giselle > depicted a strong woman who takes responsibility for a child with earning monty by having the body as medium after going to a red-light district instead of death, thereby having depicted the female subject, who gains freedom in the spiritual aspect. In this way, even the classic ballet works are expressed differently depending on philosophical propensity to which a choreographer points according to historical flow and also to sociality of each country.

Special Edition: Antidumping Laws and Their Enforcements Guest Editor: James Hartigan : Strategic Lobbying and Antidumping

1994 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.9 No.2

Anti-dumping is often defended as a pressure valve which reduces more illiberal forms of protectionist pressure. In the domino dumping model of Anderson [1992, 1993] this need not be true as exporters dump to obtain market access in the event of a VER. The contribution of this paper is to show that anti-dumping opens a channel for strategic lobbying through which lobbying commitments can have favorable effects on the decisions of exporting firms, and through which antidumping enforcement can encourage lobbying. Thus a ``depoliticizing`` institution can perversely be responsible for politicizing trade policy all the more.

Use of extended conversation to enhance vocabulary knowledge in English for employment classes

        James Matthew(James Matthew ),Frank Bennett(Frank Bennett ),허선민(Seonmin Huh) 팬코리아영어교육학회(구 영남영어교육학회) 2022 영어교육연구 Vol.34 No.3

Many English for Specific Purposes (ESP) programs focus on students’ oral proficiency and lack the content needed to assist students to develop lexical compilation for use in real workplace contexts. The current study will build upon the existing literature by developing pedagogy to assist students in their workplace readiness, focusing on a strong practical command of relevant English vocabulary. The research focuses on the pedagogy two professors incorporated in their English for employment courses, when teaching employment-related concept vocabulary. A qualitative case study of two foreign professors in the department of English in two Korean universities guided the current study. Pre-made recorded video lectures, live online class sessions with students, lesson plans and class materials were collected for data analysis. The study then focused on determining representative patterns in the professors’ teaching methods. Pedagogy that extended career specific concept vocabulary into authentic English conversation with three main steps was found. Firstly, students were taught concept vocabulary. Secondly, the vocabulary was then combined in speaking activities where students not only had to solve scenarios but also were required to expand on the given forms of words and language expressions. Lastly, the students had extended authentic conversations in English, using the target concept vocabulary learnt. Educational implications have been discussed. (211 words)

Special Edition: Antidumping Laws and Their Enforcements Guest Editor: James Hartigan : Strategic Responses to Antidumping Laws and Legal Interpretations: Producing for Export Markets Using Lawyers and Other Factors of Production

1994 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.9 No.2

This paper explores in the context of a stylized model of dumping some possible strategic responses to the use of "cumulation" and "threat of material injury" in dumping investigations. In particular, it is shown that these guidelines for investigations can change the payoff structure of competition abroad and thereby induce reduced competition and optimal-from an individual firm point of view-excess capacity.

Management of rare ectopic teeth eruption: case series

Olutayo James(Olutayo James ),Ibrahim Kayode Suleiman(Ibrahim Kayode Suleiman ),Mukhtar Modibbo Ahmad(Mukhtar Modibbo Ahmad ),Hector Oladapo Olasoji(Hector Oladapo Olasoji ) 대한구강악안면외과학회 2023 대한구강악안면외과학회지 Vol.49 No.2

Objectives: An ectopic tooth is a rare eruption of a tooth out of the normal dental apparatus and occurs commonly with the third molar. Thus, in this study, we reported a case series of ectopic teeth in rare jaw locations and highlight the associated pathology and our experience in the surgical management. Patients and Methods: All cases of ectopic tooth managed at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital from January 2011 to December 2020 were reviewed. The information retrieved includes biodata, location of the ectopic tooth, signs, symptoms, type of tooth and associated pathology, surgical approach and complications. Results: Ten cases of ectopic teeth were identified over the study period. This comprised 80.0% males with a mean age was 23.3 years. The antrum and lower border of the mandible accounted for 50.0% and 40.0% of the ectopic locations, respectively. Dentigerous cyst was the most associated pathology (70%) and usually presented with pain and swelling. Surgical intervention predominantly via the intraoral route was performed if indicated. Conclusion: Ectopic teeth are rare and not always associated with pathology. A high index of suspicion and radiological investigation are necessary for diagnosis. A more extensive multi-center study is however recommended to determine the prevalence of ectopic teeth other than the third molar.

Middle Powers in the Asia Pacific: Korea in Australian Comparative Perspective

2013 Korea Observer Vol.44 No.4

Claims to middle power status depend upon capacity and credibility. The term became particularly applicable from the 1980s when Australia helped launch APEC and the ASEAN Regional Forum, and worked to effect the Cambodia settlement. This rhetoric returned during the Rudd-Gillard governments, especially in relation to the role of the G20 in global financial governance, as well as to crafting inclusive Asian regionalism. The Republic of Korea began to use the middle power concept in the 1990s, and recently has emphasised its centrality to the “trustpolitik” objectives of the current administration. While both Korea and Australia have strong interests in rule governed outcomes in respect of major Asia Pacific issues, complex problems stand in the way of pursuing this middle power goal. With China as their major economic partners while simultaneously American alliance members, they are challenged to contribute to ordering the Sino-American terrain where settled rules are notoriously absent.

Comprehensive Security and Multilateral Cooperation in Northeast Asia Overcoming North Korea’s Nuclear Breakout

        James E. Goodby,Peter Hayes 한국학술연구원 2016 Korea Observer Vol.47 No.4

This essay argues that US policies toward the DPRK must be reformulated, and that the United States has many options to choose from in developing new geo-strategic framework for US security policy in Northeast Asia. These may have more traction with the problem presented by the DPRK than those employed since 1992. We argue that the United States is the only power able and potentially willing to exercise leadership to reshape the regional strategic environment in ways that require all local leaders to recalibrate their own calculi. In our view, it is time for states in the region to create institutional arrangements to manage the use of nuclear threat in inter-state relations. We outline an array of possible approaches, especially multilateral ones, for creating a new strategic framework in which to realize an enduring peace and to ensure the security of all states in the region — even that of the DPRK should it manage to survive its own domestic downward spiral and long run malaise.

The relationship between empathy and stress: a cross sectional study among undergraduate medical students

James Wiguna Wahjudi,Ardi Findyartini,Fransiska Kaligis 한국의학교육학회 2019 Korean journal of medical education Vol.31 No.3

Purpose: Empathy is critical for medical doctors, as it enables them to conduct good patient-centred care. Medical students are expected to learn this ability as part of their education and training. Methods: Using a cross-sectional design, the present study was conducted to identify whether the empathy levels of medical students are affected by their stress levels. A translated version of the Perceived Stress Scale-10 was used to measure the students’ stress levels, while the Jefferson Scale of Physician Empathy was used to measure their empathy levels. Results: A total of 464 students from one medical school in Indonesia participated in the study. Stress levels among medical students peak in their first year of study and maintain a downward trend over the following years. The students’ empathy levels increased during their first 3 years, declined significantly upon entering the first clinical year, and increased during the second clinical year. However, no correlations were found between stress level and empathy level. Conclusion: These findings suggest that there may be other underlying factors that contribute to empathy decline among medical students upon entering their first clinical year. Further research should be conducted to identify these factors. The bounced-back of empathy level to a higher level in the second year highlights the importance of student adaptation in the clinical learning environment and the support system.
