The physicochemical properties of Kwangyang municipal waste were analyzed in terms of bulk density, physical composition, moisture content, combustible and ashy content, chemical element, and heating value. A representative waste sample was made by collecting samples at various location in the city and considering weighting factor depending on the regional(residential, commercial, industrial sites) waste generating portion based on the last published reports regarding the waste generation on Kwangyang, Yosu, Suncheon cities by Korea Environmental Protection Agency. The Korean Waste Standard Methods were used to collect samples and analytical measurements. The estimated bulk density of total waste was 211.8㎏/㎥, the average moisture content was 40%, the average combustible content was 48%, the average ash content was 12%, The average low heat value was 1,616㎉/㎏, which was little lower than the average one of the whole country. The result of chemical elemental analysis showed that most of the hazardous heavy metals such as As. Hg were detected or negligible and the contents of sulfur and chloride were also relatively low.
The Short-Chain Fatty Acid Receptor GPR43 Modulates YAP/TAZ via RhoA

GPR43 (also known as FFAR2 or FFA2) is a G-protein-coupled receptor primarily expressed in immune cells, enteroendocrine cells and adipocytes that recognizes short-chain fatty acids, such as acetate, propionate, and butyrate, likely to be implicated in innate immunity and host energy homeostasis. Activated GPR43 suppresses the cAMP level and induces Ca<sup>2+</sup> flux via coupling to Gα<sub>i</sub> and Gα<sub>q</sub> families, respectively. Additionally, GPR43 is reported to facilitate phosphorylation of ERK through G-protein-dependent pathways and interacts with β-arrestin 2 to inhibit NF-κB signaling. However, other G-protein-dependent and independent signaling pathways involving GPR43 remain to be established. Here, we have demonstrated that GPR43 augments Rho GTPase signaling. Acetate and a synthetic agonist effectively activated RhoA and stabilized YAP/TAZ transcriptional coactivators through interactions of GPR43 with Gα<sub>q/11</sub> and Gα<sub>12/13</sub>. Acetate-induced nuclear accumulation of YAP was blocked by a GPR43-specific inverse agonist. The target genes induced by YAP/TAZ were further regulated by GPR43. Moreover, in THP-1-derived M1-like macrophage cells, the Rho-YAP/TAZ pathway was activated by acetate and a synthetic agonist. Our collective findings suggest that GPR43 acts as a mediator of the Rho-YAP/TAZ pathway.
Novel GPR43 Agonists Exert an Anti-Inflammatory Effect in a Colitis Model

GPR43 (also known as FFAR2), a metabolite-sensing G-protein-coupled receptor stimulated by short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) ligands is involved in innate immunity and metabolism. GPR43 couples with Gαi/o and Gαq/11 heterotrimeric proteins and is capable of decreasing cyclic AMP and inducing Ca<sup>2+</sup> flux. The GPR43 receptor has additionally been shown to bind β-arrestin 2 and inhibit inflammatory pathways, such as NF-κB. However, GPR43 shares the same ligands as GPR41, including acetate, propionate, and butyrate, and determination of its precise functions in association with endogenous ligands, such as SCFAs alone, therefore remains a considerable challenge. In this study, we generated novel synthetic agonists that display allosteric modulatory effects on GPR43 and downregulate NF-κB activity. In particular, the potency of compound 187 was significantly superior to that of preexisting compounds in vitro. However, in the colitis model in vivo, compound 110 induced more potent attenuation of inflammation. These novel allosteric agonists of GPR43 clearly display anti-inflammatory potential, supporting their clinical utility as therapeutic drugs.
완주산단 주변의 주요 악취물질 규명 및 저감을 위한 실태연구

The purpose of this study is to measure composite odor and designated odor in 33 emission sources at 11business sites generating odor in the Wanju Industrial Complex, examine characteristics and problems of majored or substances for each odor emission source, and establish an optimal means to reduce odor according to characteristics of the site. As a result of assessing odor emission characteristics in this study, major odor substances were found to be ethyl benzene, toluene and xylene for automobile parts manufacturing business, styrene, ethylbenzene and toluene for synthetic resin and other plastic materials manufacturing business, and styrene, trimethylbenzene, ethylbenzene, nitric acid and formic acid for other manufacturing businesses. Apartments located closest in the northern and southern boundaries of the industrial complex were predicted to be surrounding regions receiving greatest effect of odor emitted by business sites, and increase in apartment floor was predicted to show greater effect of odor.

This study aims to establish the methodology for the estimation of local governments` potentialities for mitigation of greenhouse gases and to estimate those potentialities by applying the established methodology. In order to secure the usefulness of the estimation method of the potentiality for mitigation of greenhouse gasses, the method was applied to local governments. A local government A in Jeollabuk-do was chosen as the analysis object, and the local governments B in Chungcheongnam-do, C in Jeollanam-do, and D in Chungcheongbuk- do were chosen as comparative ones. For the analyses of local governments` potentialities for the reduction, the analyzed sectors were divided into six sub-sectors (transportation, family, commercial, public, industrial, agro-livestock, and waste areas). The results of the estimation on A local government`s potentiality for mitigation of greenhouse gases demonstrates that the potentiality in transportation sector is high, those in family, commercial, public, and industrial sectors are moderate, and those in agro-livestock and waste sectors are low.
The therapeutic effects of WSY-0702 on benign prostatic hyperplasia in RWPE-1

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is one of the major diseases of the urinary system in older men. WSY-0702 is the extracted from the traditional medicinal plant; Seoritae, and it has effects of anti-obesity, chronic cervical pain, and anti-oxidant. The present study aimed to investigate the therapeutic potential of WSY-0702 in the prevention and treatment of BPH. Several parameters including inflammatory mediators, hormones, and oxidative stress (OS) have been considered to play a role in the development of BPH. Prostate tissue damage and OS may lead to compensatory cellular proliferation with resulting hyperplastic growth. An in vitro study showed that proliferation inhibited the human prostate epithelial cell line RWPE-1 in a dose-dependent manner. In cell line, the cell cycle at the G2/M and G0/G1 phase and downregulated the expression of CyclineB1 (CCNB1) and CyclineD1 (CCND1). In addition, we measured the $H_2O_2$-induced OS damage using RWPE-1 cells. We examined the relative expression of protein involved in the regulation of prostate apoptosis: transforming growth factor (TGF)-${\beta}$, a negative growth factor able to induced prostate apoptosis under physiological conditions. These results suggest that WSY-0702 that can inhibit the growth of prostate epithelial cell by a mechanism that may involve arresting the cell cycle and downregulating CCNB1 and CCND1 expression. In addition, WSY-0702 exposure resulted in significant protective effects in $H_2O_2$-stressed PWPE-1 cells by reduction in TGF-${\beta}$ levels.

본 연구의 목적은 유아교사의 정서지능, 행복감, 사회적지지의 각 변인들과 회복탄력성과의 관계분석과 유아교사의 정서지능, 행복감, 사회적지지가 회복탄력성에 미치는 영향력을 분석하기 위함이다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 J도의 유아교육기관에서 근무하는 담임교사 350을 대상으로 설문지를 배부하였으며, 336부의 설문지를 최종 연구 자료로 사용하였다. 연구결과, 유아교사의 연령에 따라 유아교사의 정서지능, 행복감, 회복탄력성에 차이를 보였으며, 유아교사의 경력에 따라 정서지능과 회복탄력성, 근무기관유형에 따라 정서지능과 사회적지지, 회복탄력성에 차이를 나타냈다. 회복탄력성에 영향을 미치는 유아교사의 변인으로는 유아교사의 행복감, 정서지능, 사회적지지는 유아교사의 정서지능이 높고, 행복감을 많이 느끼고, 사회적지지를 높게 인식할수록 회복탄력성의 수준이 높다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과는 유아교사의 정서지능, 행복감, 사회적지지를 높일 수 있는 유아교사 교육 프로그램 개발과 교육이 제공되어야 할 것이며, 근무환경개선이 이루어져야 함을 시사한다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between child teachers’ emotional intelligence, happiness, and social support variables and resilience, and to analyze the effects of child teachers’ emotional intelligence, happiness, and social support on resilience. To accomplish this purpose, the questionnaires were distributed to 350 homeroom teachers working at child education institutions located in J province, and 336 questionnaires were used as final research data. From the results of this study, first, the emotional intelligence, happiness, resilience of child teachers differed according to the ages of child teachers, the emotional intelligence and social support differed according to emotional intelligence and resilience. The variables of child teachers affecting the resilience of child teachers also showed that the child teacher’s happiness, emotional intelligence, and social support affected the resilience, demonstrating that the higher child teachers perceived emotional intelligence, happiness, and social support, the higher the level of resilience. The results of this study suggest that the development of education program and education for child teachers should be provided to enhance their emotional intelligence, happiness, and social support and the improvement of working environment should be carried out.
