학업적 정서조절 척도개발 및 학업적 정서조절, 학습전략, 학업적 자기효능감과 학업성취의 관계 모형 = Test of a structural equation model among academic emotion regulation, learning strategy, academic self-efficacy and academic achievement

This study set out to shed light onto the importance of emotion regulation in learning situations and develop an academic emotion regulation scale, thus testing structural relations among academic emotion regulation, learning strategy, academic self-efficacy, and academic achievement. The study specifically aimed at exploring the components of academic emotion regulation by reviewing previous studies on general emotion regulation and putting together the results of open-ended questionnaire survey, developing and validating a scale to measure the identified components of academic emotion regulation, and analyzing relations among academic emotion regulation, learning strategy, academic self-efficacy, and academic achievement and testing a structural equation model among the variables with the developed scale.
The research question and findings for each research question were as follows: Research Question I was related to the exploration of the components of academic emotion regulation. An open-ended questionnaire was made up on emotion regulation in learning situations and distributed to 107 middle, high school, and college students living in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, Chungcheongnam Province, and Jeollabuk Province. A group of components of academic emotion regulation were identified based on the previous studies on the general emotion regulation scale and the content of the open-ended questionnaire, and they include self-consciousness of emotion, acceptance of emotional reaction, goal-congruent act, positive reevaluation of emotion, and approach of emotion regulation strategy. Based on the identified components, academic emotion regulation was conceptualized as ‘an internal process of being self-conscious of and accepting emotion experienced in a learning situation and controlling, revising, assessing, and planning emotion according to the target situation’.
Research Question Ⅱ was about the development and validation of an academic emotion regulation scale, which was administered to 1,006 middle, high school, and college students living in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, Chungcheongnam Province, and Jeollabuk Province. Total 96 preliminary items were made up based on the components of academic emotion regulation and used in a preliminary test after the revision of item content. Of them, 39 items were excluded after taking mean, standard deviation, correlations among items, and correlations between items and total scores into consideration. The remaining 57 items were used in the main test and reduced to final 24 items through factor analysis.
The analysis results show that the reliability and test/retest reliability of the academic emotion regulation scale were .88 at Cronbach α=.81 and .55, respectively, both being at the significance level. It was thus found that the academic emotion regulation scale was a reliable, stable scale. Exploratory factor analysis was carried out with the PASW 18.0 program to specify the components of the academic emotion regulation scale. The factor analysis results identified final four factors, namely self-consciousness of emotion, goal-congruent act, positive reevaluation of emotion, and approach of emotion regulation strategy. Thus the final academic emotion regulation scale consisted of four factors and 24 items.
Also carried out in the study were cross-validity test and concurrent validity test to see whether the developed academic emotion regulation scale could be generalized. Cross-validity test was administered to 872 middle, high school, and college students living in Seoul, Chungcheongnam Province, and Jeollabuk Province. Using the AMOS 18.0 program, confirmatory factor analysis was conducted on the academic emotion regulation scale for cross-validity test. As a result, each of the factors scored 2 or more points on the C. R. value and recorded .55 standardized regression coefficient or higher. The fitness indexes were also favorable with NFI, TLI, and CFI recording .92 and RMSEA recording .04. It was thus found that the four-factor model of academic emotion regulation had a significant structure.
The concurrent validity analysis results also confirmed that the academic emotion regulation scale based on learning situations well distinguished individual emotion regulation levels in general situations. There was a correlation of ｒ=.55 between total academic emotion regulation scores and total general emotion regulation scores. When the subfactors of academic emotion regulation were considered, there was the highest correlation of ｒ=.51 between goal-congruent act and general emotion regulation level. At the result of regression analysis, the academic emotion regulation scale explained approximately 33% of the general emotion regulation level. In addition, MANOVA was performed to see whether there would be any differences in academic emotion regulation according to the general emotion regulation level. As a result, there was difference in the degree of academic emotion regulation according to the general emotion regulation level with goal-congruent act offering the most explanations about group differences. The discriminant analysis results show that there was a canonical correlation of ｒ=.60 between academic emotion regulation and general emotion regulation, thus proving its concurrent validity.
Research Question III concerned relations among academic emotion regulation, learning strategy, academic self-efficacy, and academic achievement and tested 1,008 middle, high school, and college students living in Seoul, Chungcheongnam Province, and Jeollabuk Province. The analysis results for each research question were as follows: first, the top 25% and bottom 25% group were identified according to academic emotion regulation scores in order to test differences in learning strategy, academic self-efficacy, and academic achievement according to the academic emotion regulation of the students. The test results indicate that the group with a high academic emotion regulation level had a higher level of learning strategy, academic self-efficacy, and academic achievement than the group with a low academic emotion regulation level with statistical significance(p<.001).
Second, the top 25% and bottom 25% group were identified to test differences in academic achievement according to the learning strategy and academic self-efficacy of the students. As a result, the upper group of learning strategy and academic self-efficacy had a higher level of academic achievement than the lower group with statistical significance(p<.001).
Third, the structural equation model was tested among academic emotion regulation, learning strategy, academic self-efficacy, and academic achievement with the AMOS 18.0 program. The comparison results between the research and competing model show that χ² difference between them was 8.702(p<.01), which was greater than 3.84 distributional threshold at the significance probability of .01 when the degree of freedom was 1. It was thus found that there were statistically significant differences between the two models, of which the one with a lower degree of freedom was finally chosen for the study. The influence of academic emotion regulation on learning strategy, academic self-efficacy, and academic achievement was .64, .45, and .17, respectively. The influence of learning strategy and academic self-efficacy on academic achievement was .20 and .16, respectively. The influence of academic self-efficacy on learning strategy was. 42. The fitness indexes of the final model were NFI=.95, TLI=.92, CFI=.95, and RMSEA=.09.
Based on the test results, the significance of the study was discussed as follows: first, developed an academic emotion regulation scale was not limited to certain tasks or areas and was capable of predicting a student's emotion regulation level in academic contexts. secondly, the study confirmed structural relations among academic emotion regulation, learning strategy, academic self-efficacy and academic achievement. An integrated approach should be taken toward relations between academic emotion regulation and cognition and motivation variables in order to assess the impacts of academic emotion regulation on successful academic performance. The study results show that academic emotion regulation has indirect influence on academic achievement through learning strategy and academic self-efficacy as well as direct influence on it, which implies that future study needs to focus on more diverse emotional factors emerging in learning situations including academic emotion regulation and explore more profound connections between those factors and cognition and motivation variables.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

연구의 목적은 학업상황에서 정서조절의 중요성을 밝히고 학업적 정서조절 척도를 개발하여 학업적 정서조절, 학습전략, 학업적 자기효능감과 학업성취의 구조적 관계를 검증하는 것이다. 연구목적을 구체적으로 진술하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 일반적 정서조절에 관한 선행연구의 고찰과 개방형 설문조사 결과를 종합하여 학업적 정서조절의 구성요인을 탐색한다. 둘째, 탐색된 학업적 정서조절의 구성요인을 기초로 이를 측정할 수 있는 척도를 개발하고 타당화 한다. 셋째, 개발된 학업적 정서조절 척도를 사용하여 학업적 정서조절, 학습전략, 학업적 자기효능감과 학업성취의 관계를 분석하고 이들 변인 간의 관계모형을 검증한다.
본 연구는 세 개의 연구문제로 구성되며, 각 연구문제는 다음과 같다.

연구문제 Ⅲ. 학업적 정서조절, 학습전략, 학업적 자기효능감과 학업성취의 관계는 어떠한가?

각각의 연구문제에 대한 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 연구문제 Ⅰ은 학업적 정서조절 구성요인의 탐색과 관련된 것으로 학업상황에서의 정서조절에 대한 개방형 설문지를 제작하여 서울, 경기도, 충청남도, 전라북도에 거주하는 중&#8228;고&#8228;대학생 107명을 대상으로 조사를 실시하였다. 일반적 정서조절 척도와 관련된 선행연구와 개방형 설문내용을 토대로 학업적 정서조절 구성요인을 정서의 자각, 정서반응의 수용, 충동통제, 목표일치 행동, 정서의 긍정적 재평가, 정서조절전략의 접근 총 6개의 구성요인을 추출하였다. 또한 추출한 구성요인을 토대로 학업적 정서조절을 ‘학업상황에서 경험하는 정서를 자각하고 수용하며, 목표상황에 맞게 정서를 통제, 수정, 평가, 계획하는 내적과정’이라고 개념화 하였다.
연구문제 Ⅱ는 학업적 정서조절 척도의 개발과 타당화에 관한 것이다. 학업적 정서조절 척도의 개발을 위해 서울, 경기도, 충청남도, 전라북도에 거주하는 중&#8228;고&#8228;대학생 1,006명을 대상으로 검사를 실시하였다. 학업적 정서조절의 구성요인을 토대로 96개의 예비문항을 만들고 문항내용의 수정과정을 거쳐 예비검사를 실시하였다. 문항과 문항 간 상관관계, 문항과 총점 간 상관관계를 고려하여 39개 문항을 제외하였다. 남은 57개 문항에 대하여 본 검사를 실시하였으며 탐색적 요인분석을 실시한 결과 24개 문항이 최종적으로 선정되었다. 학업적 정서조절 척도에 대한 신뢰도 분석 결과, Cronbach’s α=.81에서 .88, 재검사 신뢰도는 Cronbach’s α=.55에서 .74로 나타나 모두 유의한 수준으로 산출되어 학업적 정서조절 척도가 신뢰롭고 안정된 척도임을 확인되었다. 학업적 정서조절 척도를 구성하는 요인들을 구체화하기 위해 PASW 18.0 프로그램을 활용하여 탐색적 요인분석을 실시하였다. 요인분석 결과 정서의 자각, 목표일치 행동, 정서의 긍정적 재평가, 정서전략의 접근의 4개 요인이 최종적으로 추출되었다. 따라서 최종 학업적 정서조절 척도는 4요인, 24개 문항으로 구성되었다.
또한 개발된 학업적 정서조절 척도가 일반화 가능한 척도인가를 알아보기 위해 교차타당도와 공인타당도 검증을 하였다. 교차타당도 분석을 위해 서울, 충청남도, 전라북도에 거주하는 중&#8228;고&#8228;대학생 872명을 대상으로 검사를 실시하였다. AMOS 18.0 프로그램을 활용하여 학업적 정서조절 척도에 대한 확인적 요인분석을 실시하였다. 검증결과 각 요인의 C.R.값이 모두 2이상으로 나타났으며, 표준화 회귀계수도 모두 .55이상으로 나타났다. 또한 적합도 지수들의 산출 결과 NFI, TLI, CFI의 적합도 지수들이 모두 .92, RMSEA는 .04로 양호한 적합도를 나타내 학업적 정서조절의 4요인 모형이 유의미한 구조모형임이 확인되었다.
또한 공인타당도 분석을 위해 서울과 경기도 지역의 중·고·대학생 294명을 대상으로 검사를 실시하였다. 검증결과 학업 상황에 기초한 학업적 정서조절 척도가 일반적인 상황에서의 개인의 정서조절 수준을 잘 판별해주고 있음을 확인하였다. 학업적 정서조절의 총점과 일반적 정서조절 총점의 상관관계가 ｒ=.55로 나타났다. 학업적 정서조절의 하위요인별로 살펴보면, 목표일치 행동과 일반적 정서조절 수준의 상관관계는 ｒ=.51로 가장 높은 상관을 나타냈다. 회귀분석을 실시한 결과 학업적 정서조절 척도는 개인의 일반적인 정서조절 수준을 약 33% 설명해주는 것으로 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 일반적 정서조절 수준에 따라 학업적 정서조절에 차이가 존재하는지 살펴보기 위해 다변량분산분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 일반적 정서조절 수준에 따라 학업적 정서조절 정도가 다른 것으로 나타났으며, 목표일치 행동이 집단 간 차이를 가장 많이 설명하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 판별분석 결과 학업적 정서조절과 일반적 정서조절의 정준상관이 ｒ=.60으로 나타났으며, 학업적 정서조절 척도가 일반적 정서조절의 상&#8231;하위 집단에 대한 분류정확 비율이 약 76.4%로 나타나 공인타당도가 검증되었다.
연구문제 Ⅲ은 학업적 정서조절, 학습전략, 학업적 자기효능감과 학업성취의 관계 분석에 관한 것으로 서울, 충청남도, 전라북도에 거주하는 중&#8228;고&#8228;대학생 1,008명을 대상으로 검사를 실시하였다. 분석결과를 연구문제별로 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학생들의 학업적 정서조절에 따른 학습전략, 학업적 자기효능감, 학업성취 수준의 차이를 검증하기 위해 학업적 정서조절 점수를 상위 25%와 하위 25%로 구분하였다. 검증결과 학업적 정서조절 수준이 높은 집단이 낮은 집단에 비해 학습전략, 학업적 자기효능감, 학업성취 수준이 더 높았으며 통계적으로 유의하였다(p<.001).
둘째, 학생들의 학습전략, 학업적 자기효능감에 따른 학업성취의 차이를 검증하기 위해 상위 25%와 하위 25% 두 집단으로 구분하였다. 검증결과 학습전략과 학업적 자기효능감 모두 상위 집단의 학업성취 수준이 더 높았으며 통계적으로 유의하였다(p<.001).
셋째, 학업적 정서조절, 학습전략, 학업적 자기효능감, 학업성취의 관계모형을 AMOS 18.0 프로그램을 활용하여 검증하였다. 정서조절과 인지, 동기, 학업성취와의 관계에 대한 선행연구를 토대로 연구모형을 설정하였으며, 경쟁모형을 제시하여 연구모형을 평가하였다. 연구모형과 경쟁모형을 비교한 결과, 연구모형과 경쟁모형의 χ²의 차이는 8.702(p<.01)로 나타나 자유도가 1일 때 유의확률 .01 수준의 분포 임계치 3.84보다 크므로 두 모형의 차이는 통계적으로 유의하다고 볼 수 있으며, 자유도가 작은 연구모형을 적합한 모형으로 최종 선정하였다. 학업적 정서조절이 학습전략에 미치는 영향이 .64, 학업적 자기효능감에 미치는 영향은 .45, 학업성취에 미치는 영향은 .17로 나타났으며, 학습전략과 학업적 자기효능감이 학업성취에 미치는 영향은 각각 .20, .16으로 나타났다. 또한 학업적 자기효능감이 학습전략에 미치는 영향은 .42로 나타났다. 최종모형의 적합도 지수들은 NFI=.946, TLI=.922, CFI=.952, RMSEA=.09로 나타났다.
본 연구에서 검증된 결과들을 기초로 본 연구의 의의와 시사점을 논의하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 정서조절의 맥락 특수성을 고려해서 일반적인 상황이 아니라 학업상황이라는 특수한 상황에 적합한 학업적 정서조절의 구성요인들을 탐색하고 척도를 개발하였다. 본 연구에서 개발한 학업적 정서조절 척도는 세부적인 과제나 영역에 국한되지 않으면서 학업이라는 특정 맥락에서 학습자의 정서조절 수준을 잘 예측할 수 있는 척도라 볼 수 있다. 둘째, 학업적 정서조절, 학습전략, 학업적 자기효능감, 학업성취 간의 구조적 관계를 확인할 수 있었다. 성공적인 학업수행에 대한 학업적 정서조절의 영향력을 평가하기 위해서는 학업적 정서조절과 인지 및 동기변인의 관계에 대한 통합적인 접근이 요구된다. 본 연구결과에 따르면, 학업적 정서조절이 학업성취에 직접적으로 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라 학습전략과 학업적 자기효능감을 통해 간접적으로도 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 학생들의 학업적 정서조절을 비롯하여 학업상황에서 발생하는 다양한 정서구인에 초점을 맞추어서 인지 및 동기 변인과의 보다 심층적인 관련성을 탐색해야 함을 시사하고 있다.
