유아의 연령과 성별에 따른 어머니의 양육신념과 유아의 자기통제력의 관계 = Relations Between Mother`s Child-Rearing Beliefs and Their Child`s Self-Control According to Age and Gender

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to examine the relations between mother`s child-rearing beliefs and their child`s self-control according to age and gender. The subjects of the study were 240 four- and six-year-olds, their mothers and teachers of kindergartens and nursery schools in D city. The research tools used were parental belief questionnaire for mother`s child-rearing beliefs, self-control rating scale, and delay of gratification rating scale for self-control of children. Pearson`s correlation analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis were used for data analysis. The results of this study were as follows. First, the relations between mother`s child-rearing beliefs and the child`s self-control were shown in a variety of ways. With regard to 4-year-old boys, the higher mothers rated themselves in promoting problem solving and creativity as educational objectives, the higher rating on delay of gratification the child received. For 4-year-old girls, the higher mothers rated themselves in promoting creativity, the higher was the child`s self-control and delay of gratification. In a group of 6-year-old boys, there were no significant relations among any variables. Otherwise regarding 6-year-old girls, the higher mothers rated themselves in promoting life skills, the higher were the child`s ratings of impulsive behaviors. Secondly, 4-year-old`s self-control was influenced by gender and promoting creativity of mother`s beliefs, whereas 6-year-old`s self-control was influenced by gender.
