유아과학교육에 대한 유치원 교사의 인식 = Teachers' Perception on Their Own Science Teaching

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to investigate kindergarten teachers' understanding on early childhood science education. The subjects were 5 teachers who teach at kindergartens and data were collected through in depth interview, science autobiography, science journal, and lesson plans.
The major findings of this study are as follows:
The majority of teachers recognized that science teaching demands extensive preparation and a high level of knowledge. Accordingly, they considered science teaching as troublesome work. They considered scientific activities to be more difficult to carry out than other activities. As a result, they were reluctant to teach or even avoided teaching science.
The majority of teachers recognized that science teaching is an experiment. They therefore showed children ever-changing scientific experiments by whole group As a result, they have difficulty in science teaching due to the difficulty of readiness of materials and unexpected results in the experiments.
Most of the teachers have set up science centers and replaced materials when there are changes in the subject. However, they found that it is very difficult to keep up with the constant management and variety of materials.
Most of the teachers take a deep interesting in science teaching when children zoom in on their teaching, they succeed in experiment, and they have a pleasant experience raising animal.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 교실현장에서 과학교육을 수행하는 유치원 교사의 목소리를 통해 유아과학교육에 대한 인식이 어떠한지를 알아보는데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 수도권에 소재한 G대학교 교육대학원에 재학 중인 유치원 교사 5명의 면담 자료, 과학자서전, 과학저널, 수업계획안 등을 분석하였다. 연구 결과 유치원 교사에게 유아과학교육은 첫째, 괴롭고 두려웠던 이전의 과학 경험과 자신의 과학적 지식 부족으로 인해 ‘부담으로 다가오는 과학교육’, 둘째, 실험과 시범 위주로 이루어지는 ‘보여주기 위한 과학교육’, 셋째, 선택과목으로 존재하면서 교육계획안의 빈칸을 채우기 위해 어쩔 수 없이 계획, 실행되고 있지만 있어야 마음 편한 ‘구색으로 존재하는 과학교육’, 넷째, 교사 스스로 가끔씩 발견하는 과학적 자아와 과학교육을 하면서 유아들에게 얻게 되는 가르침의 즐거움으로 인해 ‘포기할 수 없는 과학교육’ 으로 인식되고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
