지식경영과 신제품개발에 의한 기술혁신역량과 특허활동이 기업성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 실증연구 = An Empirical Study of the Impact of the Technology Innovation Capabilities and Patent-related Activities from the Knowledge Management and New Product Development on the Business Performance

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 중소기업의 지식경영 및 신제품개발 활동이 기술혁신역량과 특허활동에 영향을 미치고 있는지, 그리고 기술혁신역량과 특허활동은 기업성과에 영향을 주고 있는지에 대한 실증분석을 하고자 하였다. 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 부산, 경남 소재 중소기업체 종사자 가운데 지식재산 또는 특허관련 교육을 받은 경험이 있는 지식재산 관련 업무부서의 임직원을 대상으로 조사, 자료를 정리한 후 채택된 256부의 설문지 응답을 표본으로 SPSS 21.0과 AMOS 21.0을 이용하여 검증하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 지식경영은 기술혁신역량과 특허활동에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 신제품개발은 기술혁신역량에는 영향을 미치고 있으나 특허활동에는 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 기술혁신역량은 특허활동에 영향을 미치는 않는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 기술혁신역량은 기업성과의 하부요인인 신제품성과와 재무성과에 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 특허활동은 기업성과의 하부요인인 신제품성과와 재무성과에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 본 연구를 통해 분석한 중소기업은 지식경영의 중요성에 대해 인식을 하고 있지만 오랜 기간 동안 기술혁신역량과 암묵적 형태의 노하우 지식을 축적하였다 하더라도 특허부서 또는 관련 담당자와 연결되지 않을 경우 특허출원으로 연결되기 어렵다는 것을 보여준다. 그리고 부산, 경남 지역의 기계, 조선산업분야의 기업체는 단순 임가공 또는 대기업 부품납품 기업체가 많으며, 그 결과 중소기업에 있어서 기술혁신역량은 필수적 사항이나 특허활동은 선택적 사항으로 작용하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 시사점과 연구의 한계점 및 향후 연구방향을 제시하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The recent patent disputes of companies in domestic and international are up to major news reports and attracted attention to people as social issues. Especially, the battle of billion dollars of lawsuit between Samsung and Apple is major news in the global countries as well as in Korea and America. Because the result of the dispute will be the turning point of both companies and will be likely to influence the future of the smart phone industry. Compared with these large patent disputes, the patent issues in the small and medium companies(SMEs) in Korea are relatively small, but are increasingly getting interested. Because the SMEs are located as the backbone of the national economy and need to be administrated as key industry. However, the preceding analyses of patent activity of SMEs were insufficient and in very weak state.
The purpose of this study is to research the empirical analysis of the relations from the Knowledge Management and the New Product Development to the Innovation Capacity and the Patent Activity of the SMEs in Busan and Gyeongnam Province Industry. Also to analyze the influences from the Innovation Capacity and the Patent Activity to the Company"s Performance in that Province Industry.
The results of the study demonstrated the following;
First, the factor of Knowledge Management has a positive impact on both factors of the Technology Innovation Capability and the Patent Activity. The SMEs’s roll in Busan and Gyeongnam Province is mainly focused on supplying the parts or components in the car and shipbuilding manufacturing industries. So, the Knowledge Management to those SMEs are very important to increase the Technology Innovation Capability. And Knowledge Management is useful to make and process the patent application. In this research we can reach the same conclusion.
Third, the factor of the New Product Development has a positive impact on the Technological Innovation Capability, but has not enough impact on the Patent Activity. The SMEs in Busan, Gyeongnam Province Industry are improving their skill and accumulate know-how of product quality, performance and price-competitive through the New Product Development. But the Patent Activity is still remained in the expert area, and they do not try to make patent application with their own field skill. So, in this research we can get the result of that the New Product Development has not enough impact on the Patent Activity.
Fourth, the Technological Innovation Capability has not enough impact on the Patent Activity. According to this study, the SMEs in Busan, Gyeongnam Province of machinery, shipbuilding companies, they develop their Technological Innovation Capability by improving their skill and product quality, performance and price-competitive. But the Technological Innovation Capability does not directly impact on the patent Activity. For the Competitive Advantage in the field, the Technological Innovation Capability is essential to the SMEs, but the Patent Activity is one selective condition. In this study, we can get the result.
Fifth, Technological Innovation Capability has positive impact on the Company’s Performance, but the Patent Activity has not enough impact on the Company’s Performance. We can find the same reasons that for the Competitive Advantage in the field, the Technological Innovation Capability is essential to the SMEs’s performance in Busan, Gyeongnam Province of machinery, shipbuilding companies, but the Patent Activity is just one of the selective conditions.
