        학문목적 한국어 쓰기교육을 위한 장르 분류와 분석의 틀 -장르기반 접근법 적용을 위하여-

        Since the definition of ``genre`` was given in the field of ESP(English for Specific Purposes), genre-based approach has been discussed and considered as an effective teaching methodology for academic writing. Among studies on KAP writing pedagogy, however, the notion of ``genre`` and the factors for analysis in the writing classroom do not seem to have been discussed enough. Moreover, most of the studies emphasize the corresponding relationship between text types and linguistic features in its application for teaching KAP writing. Hence the purposes of this paper are firstly, to study the concept of ``genre`` for the KAP writing classroom, then, to point out some problems in analysing particular linguistic features of each type of genres without taking socio-cultural factors of discourse into consideration, and finally, to propose a pragmatic framework for genre classification and analysis that can be applied in a genre-based writing classroom. For these purposes, some model texts from a textbook material are analysed, and the prototypical structures of each text are compared. Through this analysis, it is shown that the linguistic features should not be the only distinguishing factor to explore the characteristics of different types of genre. In order to suggest a working framework, this paper uses a genre analysis model discussed by Paltridge(1995) to analyse the model texts, and proposes its possibilities in exploring model texts and classifying necessary genre types for the genre-based writing classroom.

        과학 글의 레지스터와 장르 연구 사례에 대한 질적 메타분석

        In this study I reported a qualitative meta-analysis of the studies of science register and science genre on science texts used in scientists communities and school science communities. The process of qualitative meta-analysis consisted of ‘selecting research topic of meta-analysis, literature review and taking sample studies, analyzing within each study – analyzing between studies – synthesizing whole analysis’. Register and genre analysis of science treatise texts showed that the texts had full elements of a genre, logical relations between the consecutive elements, and rich rhetoric expressions for internal logics. In contrast, register and genre analysis of school science texts showed that the relations between sentences were poor in logic and also poor in genre structure including the sub-elements of a genre being spread out without any relation. The register-genre difference between scientists’ texts and school science texts could be the critical points for science learners to enculturate into science. These points, at the same time, give out the problem of stereotyped genre, which makes learners only follow the traditional styles of science writings. Alternative view about genre, however, argues that members in a community construct a specific text structure in the context where they share common goals and practices. Thus science genre should be obtained through social and dynamic practices of science knowledge construction and scientific inquiry by both science educators and learners. Evidence-Explanation Continuum and Evidence-Based Reasoning Framework can be good scaffoldings for socially constructed science genre. This perspective helps us apply genre to improve grammar education.

        장르 분석을 활용한 학위논문 장르 교육 수업 설계 연구

        The purpose of this study was to design a instruction of thesis genre education for foreign graduate students accounting for largest portion of academic writings. For the purpose, After reviewing major theories by Swales(1990) such as genre concept, moves and steps, genre analysis, and CaRS model and considering the curriculum of domestic graduate school curriculum, principles of instructional design were derived. In this process, acknowledging criticism that the major theories by Swales(1990) are merely applied in a guiding role in the pre-instructional stage the tasks were used to ensure that the major concepts by Swales(1990) are applied throughout the lecture. The tasks included genre analysis of theses by seniors, genre analysis of journal articles from high-rank academic journals, genre analysis of one’s own theses, and discussion for Discovery Learning. These tasks were designed to help them to understand genre-specific features of specific academic writing such as rhetorical organization and lexico-grammatical features of thesis. It is hoped that active research on writing and education that satisfies the needs of foreign graduate students will help ‘creating a gap of study’ and improving the quality of texts. 본 연구는 학술적 글쓰기의 비중이 가장 높은 대학원 유학생을 대상으로 학위논문 장르 교육을 위한 수업을 설계해 보았다. 이를 위해서 Swales(1990)의 장르 개념(genre concept), 무브와 스텝(moves and steps), 장르 분석(genre analysis), CaRS 모형 등의 주요 이론을 검토하고, 국내 대학원의 교육과정을 고려해서 수업 설계 원리를 도출했다. 다만 Swales(1990)의 주요 이론이 단순히 ‘수업 전 단계(pre-instructional stage)’에서 안내(guiding) 역할로만 응용된다는 비판을 수용하여, ‘과제(task)’를 통해 Swales(1990)의 주요 개념이 수업의 모든 과정에서 적용되도록 했다. 이 과제는 선배 학위논문의 장르 분석, 저명 학술지 학술논문(Journal Article)의 장르 분석, 자신의 학위논문 장르 분석, ‘발견학습(Discovery Learning)’을 위한 ‘토의(discussion)’ 등을 포함한다. 이 과제를 통해서 학위논문에 대한 수사적 조직, 어휘·문법적 특징 등과 같은 특정 전공 글쓰기의 ‘장르적 특징(genre-specific features)’을 알도록 하였다. 이처럼 학술적 글쓰기 중심의 장르 글쓰기 교육 관련 연구들이 활발히 진행되어 학술적 텍스트의 질적 제고에 도움을 주기를 바란다.

        학문 목적 한국어교육용 장르 분석의 연구 동향 분석 -구조적 이동마디 분석 연구를 중심으로-

        This study presents a systematic literature review of research trends in genre analysis for Korean Education for Academic Purposes with a specific focus on structural move analysis. A total of 44 studies were analyzed, and their meta-information trends and content trends were identified. Based on the analysis, nine recommendations and points of discussion were proposed to enhance the qualitative development of genre analysis for academic Korean language education. These include diversifying research materials and expanding academic fields, considering the interaction between research methods and academic text genres, paying attention to author's status, reflecting on the validity of comparative studies, emphasizing the importance of building and utilizing research data corpus, balancing the characteristics of genres and social contexts, discussing educational values and functions of exploratory and normative genre analyses, and systematizing and standardizing genre analysis methods. Through these recommendations and discussions, this study aims to contribute to the advancement of genre analysis for Korean Education for Academic Purposes. .

        상품 범주 네트워크에 관한 연구 : 영화 장르의 사회연결망 분석을 중심으로

        영화 장르는 관람객의 품질 불확실성을 낮추어주는 범주의 역할을 수행하며 문화 다양성 관점과 제작 장르 포트폴리오 관점에서 정책적, 실무적으로 중요한 주제이다. 영화는 하나의 장르로만 구분할 수 없으며 여러 개 장르를 복합적으로 고려해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 사회연결망 분석을 활용하여 10년간의 복합 장르 네트워크를 대상으로 장르 단위, 장르 조합 단위, 네트워크 단위 분석을 수행하였다. 장르 단위에서는 연결 중심성, 고유벡터 중심성, 매개 중심성, 중심-주변분석을 수행하여 어떤 장르가 복합장르 네트워크의 중심에 있는지 분석하였다. 장르 조합 단위에서는 위계적 군집분석을 통하여 거리가 가까운 장르를 중심으로 군집을 구성하고 조합이 용이한 장르를 검토하였다. 네트워크 단위에서는 네 개의 응집성 지표를 중심으로 시기별 증감추이를 비교하고 장르 개수, 중심 장르간의 관계를 분석하였다. 본 연구는 복합 장르를 포함한 영화 다양성과 함께 장르 중심성 및 조합 특성에 기반한 제작사의 장르 의사결정에 기여할 수 있다. 또한 사회연결망 지표를 영화산업 장르에 연계하여 활용할 수 있는 지표를 도출한 탐색적 연구로 의의가 있다. Movie genre plays a crucial role of reducing the uncertainty of quality such a category. Therefore, genre is important research subject for policy and business decision considering cultural diversity and genre portfolio issues. A movie is defined not by a specific genre, but by multiple genres. This study applies social network analysis methods to multiple genre network during the years 2004 to 2013. Genre level of analysis including degree centrality, eigenvector centrality, between centrality, and core-periphery is performed to find core genres. Hierarchical cluster analysis is used to classify groups of genre mixing based on distance between genres. Four indexes of cohesiveness at network-level focus on analyzing seasonal trends and relationship with number of diverse genre and core genres. The findings can contribute to cultural policy and production decision in the perspective of genre diversity, centrality, and genre configuration. Also, indexes of social network analysis related to movie industry is discussed for future researches.

        일반 목적 학습자를 위한 한국어 교재에서의 쓰기 분석 - 쓰기 장르 교육 현황을 중심으로

        This study selected three Korean textbooks for general-purpose learners to analyze the current status of writing genre education by analyzing the writing syllabus, genre knowledge, and genre type by proficiency in these Korean textbooks. The results are as follows. The current status of writing genre education in textbooks A, B, and C was very different, and the information on writing genre provided in these textbooks was inadequate. However, the genre types in Korean textbooks in current use were more diverse than reported by Lee Mi-hye (2013). Moreover, genre types such as Internet bulletin boards, blogs, and text messages that are widely used in contemporary everyday life have also been presented in textbooks. Nevertheless, it was confirmed that the genre types were not systematically implemented in Korean textbooks according to proficiency. As a future task, deep discussions of how to present writing syllabus and genre knowledge in textbooks and arrange writing genre types by proficiency should be made first so that genre-oriented writing education can be effectively implemented in Korean textbooks for general-purpose learners. 본 연구는 현재 사용되고 있는 일반 목적 학습자를 위한 한국어 교재 3종을 선정하여 쓰기 교수요목,장르 지식,숙달도별 쓰기 장르 유형 세 가지 기준으로 요즘 한국어교재에서 쓰기 장르 교육 현황이 어떠한지를 분석하였다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다.우선,A,B,C교재에서 쓰기 장르 교육 현황이 매우 상이할 뿐만 아니라 교재에서 쓰기 장르에 대한 정보 제공도 부족하였다는 것을 확인할 수있었다.하지만 한편으로는 현재 사용되고 있는 한국어 교재에서의 쓰기 장르 유형은이미혜(2013)에서 제시한 결과에 비해 더 다양하게 나타났고 요즘 일상생활에서 많이활용되는 인터넷 게시판 글,블로그,문자 메시지 등 쓰기 미시 장르 유형도 교재에서많이 제시되었다.그럼에도 불구하고 숙달도에 따라 쓰기 장르 유형이 한국어 교재에서 체계적으로 이루어지지 못한 양상도 동시에 확인되었다. 앞으로 일반 목적 학습자를 위한 한국어 교재에서 장르 중심 쓰기 교육을 잘 이룰수 있도록 추후 과제로 쓰기 교수요목과 장르 지식을 어떻게 제시하고 숙달도별 쓰기장르 유형을 어떻게 배열하는지에 대한 깊은 논의가 먼저 이루어져야 할 것이다.

        A Corpus-based Genre Analysis of Curriculum Vitae

        This paper aims to provide customized guidelines to EFL learners for writing in a specific genre (curriculum vitae). To this end, a total of 100 typical samples of CVs distributed by several UK and US universities were collected and analyzed using a genre-based approach. In this paper, the major features of genre analysis and corpus-based genre analysis techniques will be introduced. The collected CVs will then be analyzed, with a focus on the ‘Experience’ section in terms of its informational structures, communicative goals, and lexical items supporting the goals. The findings of the analysis of the ‘Experience’ stage in CVs are as follows. In terms of the overall linguistic characteristics, goal-oriented informational structures, reader-friendly presentation, and very specific and detailed supporting evidence was used; several sub-stages were employed, which contain different information with different communicative goals; several lexical and grammatical features from words to clauses were included, and these varied from stage to stage and made a great contribution to the accomplishment of the individual communicative goals. From these findings, the pedagogical implications will be discussed.

        신문에서의 새로운 장르, ‘뉴스분석’

        This paper seeks to explore the linguistic and discoursal realizations as well as the hybrid/evolutionary nature, of ‘news analysis’, a new genre in Korean newspapers, within the framework of ‘genre analysis’ (Swales 1990; Ayers 2008) and ‘media discourse’ (van Dijk 1988; Bell 1991). On the discourse level, the present analysis examines 'headlines', 'layout', and 'discourse structure' of the new genre, and shows that it is composed of four main discourse categories (introducing topics, providing background, analyzing/diagnosing, and providing argumentation for the analysis/diagnosis). In addition, it demonstrates that the last two categories are further substantiated by more specific speech acts (such as 'interpreting' and 'predicting', etc.) and various rhetorical structures (including 'evidence' and 'elaboration', etc.), respectively. The genre turns out to have some linguistic characteristics as well, in terms of the uses of present/future tense, direct quotations, speech verbs, and textual and interactional metadiscourse markers. Based on the results, this paper suggests not only that 'news analysis' has a hybrid nature, revealing more similarities with 'editorials' rather than 'news reportage', but also that it is still undergoing further changes in 'layout', 'discourse structure' and 'expressing ideologies'. This article concludes with some discussion on the hybrid/evolutionary nature of the genre, drawing on some theoretical concepts including ‘genre chains’, ‘intertextuality’, ‘macro-argument structure’, and the possibility of manipulation.

      • 과정-장르 중심 접근법을 활용한영어과 읽기-쓰기 능력 신장

        1. IntroductionThis study is theoretically based on the process-genre centered approach and investigates a new model of teaching-learning method which integrates reading and writing process in middle school English class. This paper comes out of concerns about the current middle school classes, which have little emphasis on the use of English in written communication and over emphasis on the traditional belief, reading and writing are very different language skills. That requires a significant shifting our students' attention or their mode of learning from grammatical structures and the smaller texts to skeletons of genres and the larger texts. This will improve both students' performance of reading and teachers' credible frames in teaching writing. That is, the purpose of this teaching process is to achieve multi-level understanding of the reading materials and a sound basis for the writing of different genres. This approach allows students to study the relationship between social purpose and form for a particular genre as they use the recursive processes of pre-writing, drafting, revision, and editing. Especially under the EFL(English as a Foreign Language) circumstance like Korea, this approach is needed to promote students' learning efficiency. And there are many viewpoints of genre classification. In this study, the magnificent seven model, which has 7 factual genres of Recount, Narrative, Explanation, InformationalReport, Procedure, Discussion and Exposition, is selected because this can be included in the school curriculum and can be taught in middle school class. 2. The Application for the Model 1) Pre-Reading Activities (Genre Analysis)This section means activities that were done before the actual reading of the model text and analysis and language features of the genre are noted or projected on the board. Draw the genre skeleton with key words and phrases. And this stage can be omitted or shorten in other units with the same genre. 2) Reading Activities (Textbook Analysis) Text can be introduced by relating to the textbook and other intensive texts. Students could practice reading again with their teacher(or in pairs/groups), with lots of expression. And organize the genre skeleton while reading activity. Other texts can be organized in intensive course. 3) Post-Reading Activities (Comprehension Test) Review the previous page and answer the questions. This exercise is mainly made up of textbook contents and included bottom-up & top-down comprehension and controlled & guided writing. 4) Pre-Writing Activities (Joint Writing) Demonstrate the writing process such as getting ideas, organizing ideas, writing, revising and editing. And students could practice writing again with teacher(or in pairs/groups). Students can do any research they need to write on the topic(reading, discussing, Internet searching, etc.). 5) Writing Activities (Independent Writing & Revising) Encourage students to write without worrying about spelling, punctuation, etc. Students can use the Joint writing process to see examples of writing frame for the genre. And the writing at this stage is very annoying and teacher should make aware them that this process is necessary. 6) Post-Writing Activities a. Peer Editing & Teacher's Feedback - Students should be encouraged to work with each other to edit their work, before they take it to the teacher for final editing. b. Final Text and Reviewing - The way in which their works are published could depend on the purpose of the writing. 3. Conclusion I performed this application in 7th grade classes for two semesters in 2007. The result was relatively good. Students’ learning attitude such as self-confidence and positive-mind grew meaningful and learning performance in reading and writing expanded more than before this study. I believe this model or application will play an important role into the future classes and help us to teach English reading and writing effectively. And I want other teachers to study more useful graphic organizers or writing frames in addition to the genres and skeletons used in this study. 최근 교육과정에 있어서 의사소통능력이 강조됨에 따라서 듣기, 말하기가 특히 강조되는 반면, 읽기와 쓰기 즉, 문자언어에 관한 학습능력 역시 같이 향상되고 있는지에 대해서는 논란의 여지가 많았고, 학교단위 수준에서 보면 오히려 부정적인 견해도 많았다. 이것은 알파벳, 단어, 문법, 구문, 독해로 이어지는 기존의 일반적인 상향식 학습의 폐해로 여겨지기 때문에, 문자언어에 미숙한 중학생이라 할지라도 텍스트 전체로부터 접근하는 하향식 읽기 방법을 접목할 필요가 있다. 글의 전체적인 구조와 전개방식에 대해 배경지식을 가진다면 읽기가 훨씬 수월해 질 것이기 때문이다. 쓰기의 경우에도 빈칸 채우기나 문장 단위의 통제되거나 유도된 수준에 그치는 경우가 많고, 실생활에 필요한 자유 작문 형태의 쓰기 학습은 소홀히 다루어지고 있는 것이 현실이다. 이 문제 역시 영어교사들이 자유 작문을 시도해 볼 신뢰성 있는 틀이나 형식이 없기 때문에 그 필요성을 인정하면서도 실제로 수업에서 적용키 어려운 점이 있었다. 이 같은 상황을 학생과 교사 입장에서 개선할 수 있는 효과적인 방법으로서, EFL(English as a Foreign Language) 상황 하에서 읽기와 쓰기를 체계적으로 연계시킨 좀 더 새로운 학습방법이 고안될 필요가 있었다. 본 논문은 비교적 최근의 이론인 과정-장르 중심 접근법에 이론적 근거를 두고, 장르별로 텍스트의 전체적인 구조와 언어적 특징을 구별하고, 이것을 쉽게 도식화한 스켈레톤 다이어그램을 그려 봄으로써, 읽기와 쓰기에 동시에 효과적인 새로운 접근법을 구안하였다.
