도자 유니트를 활용한 업사이클링 가구 디자인에 대한 연구

오랜 사용으로 인한 싫증, 주거 공간의 이동, 또는 가구의 부분적인 파손 등의 이유로 사용하던 가구를 버려해야 하는 경우가 많다. 하지만 가구를 폐기할 때 소각, 처리 등으로 인한 경제적 손실 및 환경오염, 지구온난화가 초래되기도 한다. 이를 위한 대안으로 로하스(LOHAS)의 정신을 담아 가구 업사이클링을 시도하였다. 파손된 가구 일부분에 도자 유니트를 접목시켜 기능성을 향상시킴과 동시에 디자인을 변화시켰다. 콘솔에서 벤치 겸 플로어스탠드, 협탁에서 간이 세면대로 제작하여 제시하였다. 도자 유니트를 활용한 디자인을 통해 심미적 조형성, 예술적인 창조성이 융합된 업사이클링 가구디자인의 표현이 가능함을 발견할 수 있었다.

The typical Korean style of living, in which very large cabinets tor clothes and quilted mattresses (called jang and nong ) have a big cultural importance, inherently leaves much room for improvement, because of the space they occupy as well as the efficiency problems that they cause when moving. Furthermore, recent IMF-induced negative conditions of the Korean economy, e.g., high unemployment rate and the subsequent downsizing of the household budget, have made it necessary to reduce the overall living space and to manufacture home furniture, of all sorts, according to the shrunken space. Considering these factors, it is desirable to do a study on small portable furniture which is easy to store and move, so that even small spaces can be used most efficiently.

18세기 중엽 영국에서는 중국풍의 가구로 침실을 장식하는 것이 크게 유행을 한다. 이러한 사회적 배경 속에서 리모델링을 거쳤던 당시 보포트 공작(Duke of Beaufort)의 집이였던 배드민턴 하우스는 중국적 성향의 가구로 장식이 되었었다. 그 중에 현재 메트로폴리탄 미술관에 소장되어 있는 선반 세트 (64.101.1124)는 1753년경에 제작이 되어 시대적 상황을 잘 반영하는 중요한 역사적 자료이다. 이 가구를 비롯하여 대부분의 배드민턴 하우스의 가구는 영국의 대표적인 디자이너였던 존 과 윌리암 리넬(John and William Linnell)의 공방에서 제작된 것이다. 본 연구는 이 가구를 중심으로 18세기 중엽의 중국풍의 가구가 유행을 하기 시작된 배경과 가구에 나타난 중국적 성향에 대해 연구하였다. 이를 통하여 18세기 중엽의 가구와 장식의 성향과 스타일의 유행을 이끄는 데에는 상류층의 여성이 중요한 역할을 하였던 것과 세인트 마틴스 레인(St. Martins Lane)을 중심으로 이루어졌던 것을 결론적으로 이끌어 냈으며 그 중에 리넬 공방이 유행을 이끄는 역할을 하였던 것을 밝히고 있다.

In our country, most of the wood resources are imported. We faced a continuous rising of wood price by export country's some conditions and excess rising of transport charge, also a shortage of structural size members. In these situation, recycling or reuse of wood residues and wastes under wood processing industry, building construction and demolition is not a option but a prerequisite. In our country, there is a dearth of data on recycling or reuse of wood residues and wastes, so the investigation on the necessity of recycling or reuse of wood residues and wastes was conducted by using the foreign data and documents. First of all, fields and actual conditions for the domestic wood processing industry were surveyed. Then, kinds and signification of wood residues and wastes were organized. Later, the necessity and the signification of recycling or reuse of wood residues were investigated, and postulations for effective recycling and reuse were suggested. Above all, the necessity of grading standards for reuse or recycling and some important consideration for developing grading standards were emphasized. At last, foreign research tendencies and some applications on recycling or reuse of wood residues and wastes were supplemented. In our country, most of the wood resources are imported. Understanding of the properties of woods is important in wood utilization. Until now, traditional wooden houses(Korean-style house, Buddhist temple, royal palaces) and furniture have been made of domestic woods with the experience of a craftsman rather than the scientific knowledge on woods. Because of concrete-based houses and imported wood products and furniture, even wood craftsmen decrease in number, too. This study was carried out to collect wood samples growing in Korea and to measure wood characteristics. Anatomical, physical and mechanical properties of 37 wood species were investigated.

Gypsum-wood composites were made by introducing inorganic substances into wood using calcium chloride, first treating solution, and sodium sulfate, secondary treating solution, by double diffusion process under atmospheric pressure at room temperature. The process conducted as follows: water saturated specimens were soaked in calcium chloride solutions at several concentration. Then the specimens were soaked further in saturated sodium sulfate solution, and they were leached in flowing tap water for 24h. To attain sufficient weight percent gain (WPG) values, the suitable concentration of calcium chloride and soaking time in saturated sodium sulfate solution were 20% and 48h, respectively. Inorganic substances were produced mainly in the lumina of tracheides. It was made sure that these substances were dihydrate gypsum(CaSO4 2H2O) by X-ray microanalysis (SEM-EDX). The composites had good fire resistance due to low heat transfer rate of gypsum formed in wood. However, the composites had little decay resistances, because they showed high weight losses by test fungi attacks.
오감(五感)을 이용한 가구디자인에 관한 연구 - 디자인에서의 공감각(共感覺)을 중심으로 -

Although past design developments that emphasized only the outer appearances of products were mostly concentrated on the areas of forms and colors in an attempt to satisfy humans’ visual needs, it is expected that future designs to come will go in the direction to stimulate more diversified human senses. This means expansions to the five senses including the auditory sense, the sense of smell, the tactile sense and the taste and even to the area of synesthesia where two or more senses are stimulated or coexist. Although the dictionary definition of synesthesia is a concept of arousing another sense through a sense, studies of synesthesia in design go one step further from here to mean compound senses, that is, the synesthesia in an expanded meaning to feel an object (thing) through many sensory organs simultaneously. The synesthesia in the expanded meaning is applying multiple senses simultaneously in recognizing one thing to comprehensively judge and feel the thing. Recent design trends are going in a direction to basically satisfy humans’ visual needs through controlled forms and colors while inducing another new feeling through expressions of diverse feels of materials within existing forms. In this change of the times, studies on furniture designs are conducted through factors of in synesthesia linked with other senses and have an important meaning that can enhance the value of designs.

This study has been focused on the evaluation of domestic softwood timbers to replace imported timbers for woodcrafts and furniture-making. Figures on radial and tangential sections were observed with naked eyes. As the result of study on the figures appeared on the wood surface of 6 species of trees, flat grain and edge grain were clearly found from Taxus cuspidata. Juniperus chinensis and Ginkgo biloba had wavy grain figure and pigment figure, and blister figure was found in Pinus densiflora, Larix kaempferi showed pitch streak and irregular figures on its tangential section due to growth abnormalities. Wavy grain figure appeared weakly on near knot of Pinus koraiensis. The characteristic figures shown from each species of trees are expected to be used for crafts, sculptures, furniture, and interior decoration. They are also considered to have great potential to substitute imported timber sufficiently, which are currently used a lot for wood crafts and furniture-making.

The purpose of this study was verified the effect of analyzed emotional factors and compare with competed design proposals of G and D public exhibition to plan the public exhibition applied emotional marketing which strengthen the effect with touching the emotion. The results are first, public consumer preferred to experience 5 senses and gives a positive effect, second, preference according to factor of scene gives differences by ages, but various ages preferred to experience the factor of scene, third the result of analyze the relation between preference of scene and 3 groups of 5 senses, which is high, middle, and low preferred had significant relation, and fourth, public consumer preferred to several levels of exhibition than only one level, the space preferred was 'experiencing' space.
파티클보드에 보강된 유리섬유의 layer 수가 기계적 성질에 미치는 영향

This research examined the technical feasibility of composite that had 2- and 3- layers of fiberglass reinforcement to enhance the load carrying capacity of particleboard. Specimens were prepared from commercial particleboard. Results indicated that bending properties, hardness and impact bending energy increased as the number of layers of fiberglass reinforcement increased. The wood screw withdrawal load only decreased at the 3-layer of fiberglass reinforcement. The technique developed by this study may increase an opportunity to use particleboard for structural purposes.
