        Preparation, Characterization and Photocatalytic Activity of Sodium Humate/Nano-TiO2 Coating on Glass Spheres for Flue Gas Denitrification

        A new photocatalyst of sodium humate (HA–Na)/Nano-TiO2 coating on the glass spheres for flue gas denitrification (DeNOx) was prepared using the impregnation method. The HA–Na/TiO2 is characterized by Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The photocatalytic activity of HA–Na/TiO2 on removing NOx was investigated in a self-designed photocatalytic reactor. The synergistic mechanism of HA–Na and TiO2 on DeNOx is also proposed and demonstrated. The experimental results indicate that specific surface area and average pore size of HA–Na are improved owing to the mixed TiO2 nanoparticles. The crystal structure of TiO2 has little change after mixing with HA–Na. Due to high photocatalytic performance of TiO2, NO was oxidized to NO2 and HNO3 eventually. On the other hand, HA–Na support can absorb and react with HNO3, which accelerates 10% of the catalytic reaction of TiO2 and the utilization of light source. The chemical and physiological activity of oxidized HA–Na are improved than the original humate. The HA–Na/TiO2 photocatalysts show great property on eliminating NOx because of the promoting effect between HA–Na and TiO2, and the NO removal efficiency can reach to 80% at the optimum condition.

        Researcher in the western world have studied corporate social responsibility (CSR), sustainable development, and marketing procedures for combining CSR and sustainability, but Asian awareness has been limited on both corporate and state levels. Asian researchers need to improve sustainable marketing theory because China, especially, urgently needs to confront the problem in sustainability management. The authors argue that Confucian principles, which are built on five constant virtues that have guided family and commercial life in China for more than 2,500 years, are relevant to theory regarding CSR and sustainability. To analyze sustainability in China in relation to Confucian principles, the authors develop and refine a questionnaire to be used in China, and use SPSS to analyze reliability and EFA. They use CFA and SEM to analyze sustainable marketing performance and customer equity and derive conclusions and implications.

        Mechanical Behaviors and Fracture Characteristics of Sandstone Combinations with Different Pre-crack Angles

        Layered rock masses contain many pre-existing defects, and investigating their failure mechanism is crucial for controlling layered rock mass instability. In order to understand the layered rock fracture mechanism, this study develops sandstone combination models containing cracks of different angles using the Particle Flow Code software (PFC2D) to conduct the uniaxial loading tests. In addition, it analyzes the mechanical properties and fracture characteristics of the models. The pre-crack angles and the composite materials determine the mechanical properties and crack propagation of the sandstone combination (SC) models. The results indicated that the peak stress and elastic modulus of the SC models increase as the pre-crack angle rises. The force chain concentration and the crack initiation location change with the different pre-crack angles, and the initiation stress improves gradually. The entire acoustic emission (AE) process is divided into three phases per axial stress and AE event number. The AE active level significantly correlates with the pre-crack angle change. The “V” type trend is shown in the crack number distribution, and the tensile crack is the predominant mode with some shear cracks. The micro-crack concentration and macroscopic damage zones are more prevalent in the low-strength parts, and the pre-crack angles define the influence weight of the pre-crack angle and the composite material strength.

        The delamination of carbon fiber reinforced composites during cutting by flexible linear shaped charge

        The delamination is a typical phenomenon when the carbon fiber reinforced composites (CFRC) undergoes blasting impact loading and the delamination will reduce both the strength and stiffness of the laminates, which can lead to catastrophic consequences while used as rocket skin. In this paper, the response of CFRC laminate is cut by flexible linear shaped charge (FLSC) and the delamination behavior of the CFRC is analyzed and discussed. The displacement interferometer system for any reflector (DISAR) is used to monitor the velocity of characteristic points of the laminate subjected to FLSC. Finite element analysis has been conducted to explain the mechanisms of delamination. Based on the numerical simulation, the influences of structural design parameters on the delamination effect of the CFRC after cutting are investigated. The results show that a large number of debris are produced at the center of the explosion and a small amount of large debris is produced at weakening groove on both sides. The delamination effect is greatly affected by the inter-laminar tensile strength and thickness of composite laminate, but it is not significantly affected by the linear density of the FLSC and stand-off.

        Analysis of Microbial Diversity in Tomato Paste Wastewater through PCR-DGGE

        This study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between the flora and the changes in the microbial communities during tomato paste wastewater treatment. The bio-analytical techniques like Polymerase chain reaction denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE), adenosine-triphosphate (ATP) analysis, and testing of mixed liquid and suspended solids (MLSS) were simultaneously conducted to analyze the dynamics of the microbial communities during tomato paste wastewater treatment process. The study suggests that the combined approaches of PCR-DGGE, ATP, and MLSS provided a simple and accurate method to evaluate the changes in microbial activity, microbial structure, and population size with the shift in contaminants in different treatment processes. The study also demonstrates that the structure and quantity of a microbial community are influenced by MLSS during the wastewater treatment process, which consequently determines the overall functionality of the system.

      • Design, synthesis, and evaluation of bitopic arylpiperazine-phthalimides as selective dopamine D<sub>3</sub> receptor agonists

        <P>The dopamine D3 receptor (D3R) is a proven therapeutic target for the treatment of neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders. In particular, D3R-selective ligands that can eliminate side effects associated with dopamine D2 receptor (D2R) therapeutics have been validated. However, the high homology in signaling pathways and the sequence similarity between D2R and D3R have rendered the development of D3R-selective ligands challenging. Herein, we designed and synthesized a series of piperazine-phthalimide bitopic ligands based on a fragment-based and molecular docking inspired design. Compound 9i was identified as the most selective D3R ligand among these bitopic ligands. Its selectivity was improved compared to reference compounds 1 and 2 by 9- and 2-fold, respectively, and it was 21-fold more potent than compound 2. Molecular docking demonstrated that the orientation of Leu<SUP>2.64</SUP> and Phe<SUP>7.39</SUP> and the packing at the junction of helices may affect the specificity for D3R over D2R. Functional evaluation revealed that D3R-selective ligand 9i displayed a subpicomolar agonist activity at D3R with a 199-fold increase in potency compared to quinpirole. These results may be useful for the fragment-based design of bitopic compounds as selective D3R ligands.</P>

        Two-dimensional metal organic framework for effective gas absorption

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Herein, crystalline metal organic framework (MOF) nanosheets have been fabricated through using a modified soft physical exfoliation method from bulk crystals of a layered MOF, [Cd(4,4′‑bpy)<SUB>2</SUB>(H<SUB>2</SUB>O)<SUB>2</SUB>](ClO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>·(2,4′‑bpy)<SUB>2</SUB>·H<SUB>2</SUB>O (MOF-1), and fully characterized via transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscope (AFM).
