        Effect of Viscous Damping Models on Displacement Ductility Demands for SDOF Systems

        The viscous damping is a highly idealized but mathematically convenient way of representing the energy dissipation mechanisms not related to the hysteretic response. In this study, the tangent-stiffness proportional Rayleigh damping (TSPRD) appropriate for inelastic hysteretic structures outfitted with the supplemental damping devices is utilized in inelastic dynamic analysis of simple single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) structures. A numerical procedure of dynamic equilibrium equation for SDOF systems with TSPRD model is derived for development of the general numerical solution scheme. By specifying various combinations of tangent-stiffness and mass proportional damping terms in TSPRD model, the influence of viscous damping models on displacement ductility demands is investigated. The results indicate that the difference in ductility demands for various damping models is considerable, depending on the periods of vibration, relative lateral strength, hysteretic models, stiffness deterioration and initial damping ratios. The constant-strength displacement ductility spectra, by considering both tangent-stiffness proportional and mass proportional damping, are developed in terms of site conditions, hysteretic rules and initial damping ratios.

        Dynamic Path Planning Based on Fuzzy and Behavior Control Idea

        In order to solve dynamic path planning problem of multi-robot systems in unknown dynamic environment, a kind of method based on fuzzy and behavior control idea was proposed in this paper. This method designs two fuzzy controllers, which are danger degree fuzzy controller and velocity fuzzy controller. They took fully into account the position and the velocity of the obstacle and the azimuth of the target. Fuzzy rules were designed based on behavior control idea and which reflected move-to-goal behavior, avoid-obstacle behavior and follow-obstacle behavior. The experimental results show that the proposed method is feasible and valid and is suitable for the dynamic and complicated environment in particularly.

        LasR Might Act as an Intermediate in Overproduction of Phenazines in the Absence of RpoS in Pseudomonas aeruginosa

        As an opportunistic bacterial pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 contains two phenazineproducing gene operons, phzA1B1C1D1E1F1G1 (phz1) and phzA2B2C2D2E2F2G2 (phz2), each of which is independently capable of encoding all enzymes for biosynthesizing phenazines, including phenazine-1-carboxylic acid and its derivatives. Other previous study reported that the RpoS-deficient mutant SS24 overproduced pyocyanin, a derivative of phenazine-1- carboxylic acid. However, it is not known how RpoS mediates the expression of two phz operons and regulates pyocyanin biosynthesis in detail. In this study, with deletion of the rpoS gene in the PAΔphz1 mutant and the PAΔphz2 mutant respectively, we demonstrated that RpoS exerted opposite regulatory roles on the expression of the phz1and phz2 operons. We also confirmed that the phz1 operon played a critical role and especially biosynthesized much more phenazines than the phz2 operon when the rpoS gene was knocked out in P. aeruginosa. By constructing the translational reporter fusion vector lasR’-’lacZ and the chromosomal fusion mutant PAΔlasR::lacZ, we verified that RpoS deficiency caused increased expression of lasR, a transcription regulator gene in a first quorum sensing system (las) that activates overexpression of the phz1 operon, suggesting that in the absence of RpoS, LasR might act as an intermediate in overproduction of phenazine biosynthesis mediated by the phz1 operon in P. aeruginosa.

        Microstructures and Mechanical Properties of Thick Ti–6Al–3Nb–2Zr–1Mo Joint by Magnetron-Controlled Narrow Gap TIG Welding

        The butt joint of 30 mm-thick Ti–6Al–3Nb–2Zr–1Mo titanium alloys were achieved by the magnetron-controlled narrow gapTIG welding. Microstructure and mechanical properties of joint were comprehensively explored. Ti6321 base metal (BM)was composed of primary α (accounting for 55%) and structure of β transformation (secondary α + β phase). Fine grainedheat affected zone was composed of primary α, acicular α and β phase. Coarse grained heat affected zone was composed ofacicular α and clusters of α phase with different orientations. The fusion zone (FZ) was composed of acicular α phase, lathα phase and a few β phase. The ratio of high-angle grain boundaries in the HAZ reached the maximum of 94.5% while thoseof the FZ and BM were 78.1% and 59.4%, respectively. Due to the differences in microstructures and grain orientation, thehardness of FZ (286 HV) was lower than those of BM (304 HV) and HAZ (306 HV). The tensile strength of the weldingjoint (838 MPa) reached 95% of the BM (883 MPa), and the joint showed excellent impact performance with great impactenergies of FZ (72 J) and HAZ (75 J), higher than that of BM (51 J). It was owing to the greater ratio of high-angle grainboundaries in FZ and HAZ that could store more grain boundary energies. Thicker phases hinder the growth of cracks, and,therefore, improve the impact performance of the joint.

        Evidence of two genetically different lymphotropic herpesviruses present among red deer, sambar, and milu herds in China

        Herpesvirus infections in Cervidae are a serious threat affecting some deer species worldwide. In our attempt to identify malignant catarrhal fever-associated herpesviruses in deer herds, ten gammaherpesviral DNA fragments were identified in five species of deer in herds in China by using a pan-herpesvirus polymerase chain reaction assay targeting viral DNA polymerase. Notably, in sambar (Rusa unicolor), a novel gamma-2 herpesvirus was identified that showed a close relationship with fallow deer lymphotropic herpesvirus (LHV), while the other fragments were phylogenetically grouped together with Elk-LHV. Determination of whether these viruses have any clinical implication in these deer species should be undertaken urgently.
