        Static and Seismic Experiments on the Beam-Column Joints of a Underground Cylindrical Garage Prefabricated Integrated Structure

        An innovative prefabricated integrated structure for a cylindrical underground garage is designed as the bracing system during the excavation phase. A new beam-column joint for this structure is proposed. Laboratory tests are implemented to obtain the capacity, hysteresis, skeleton curve and stiff ness attenuation performance of the joint. The process of these tests is introduced in detail. Four full-scale specimens are analyzed in laboratory tests to study the infl uence of lateral loads, connection beam cross sections and column base thicknesses on the static and seismic performance of the joint. The test results show the following conclusions: (1) The lateral load only has a great infl uence on the stress in the connecting beam. (2) Reducing the cross section of the connection beam and thickness of the base column infl uence the static and seismic performance of the joints. (3) The thickness of the column base has the greatest infl uence on the vertical ultimate bearing capacity, skeleton curve, and stiff ness attenuation of the joint, followed by the cross section of the connecting beam, and fi nally the lateral load.

        A Prefabricated Underground Cylindrical Garage and a Corresponding Stiffness Analysis

        This paper presents a design of a prefabricated structure for an underground cylindrical garage. The performance of this structure and the node connections in terms of lateral stiff ness is investigated, which is critical to the safety of the excavation process. Analytical solutions of the lateral stiff ness of the prefabricated structure are derived considering compatible displacement. A 3D model of the prefabricated structure is developed and used in the numerical simulation to verify the theoretical model. As the key factor of the lateral stiff ness of the prefabricated structure, the lateral stiff ness of the node is also obtained via laboratory testing. Three connection nodes are fabricated according to the design and are tested in the laboratory. The infl uence of the cross-sectional area of the connection beam and the thickness of the column base on the lateral stiff ness of the connection node is also investigated in the laboratory test.

        BiOI/BiVO4 p–n heterojunction with enhanced photocatalytic activity under visible-light irradiation

        A novel visible-light-sensitive BiOI/BiVO4 photocatalyst with a p–n heterojunction structure wassynthesized through a facile coprecipitation method. The physical and chemical properties of assynthesizedBiOI/BiVO4 composites were characterized by XRD, XPS, BET, SEM, EDS, HRTEM,photoluminescence spectrum and UV–DRS respectively. The photocatalytic activity of the preparedphotocatalysts was evaluated by photodegrading methylene blue and killing of Pseudomonas aeruginosa(P. aeruginosa) under visible light irradiation. The results showed that the 30%BiOI/BiVO4 (molar ratio ofI:V = 3:7) exhibits the higher photocatalytic activity than the pristine BiOI and BiVO4. Moreover, thesterilization mechanism involved in the photocatalytic disinfection process was studied by captivespecies trapping experiments. The result revealed that hydroxyl radical ( OH) and holes (h+) are the mainreactive species for killing of P. aeruginosa under visible light irradiation. In addition, after five recyclesfor killing of P. aeruginosa under visible light irradiation, 30%BiOI/BiVO4 does not exhibit significant lossof photocatalytic activity. The results confirm that the synthesized 30%BiOI/BiVO4 photocatalyst haslong-time reusability and good photocatalytic stability. The photocatalyst shows potential application inmarine antifouling.

        Conservative therapy with metformin plus megestrol acetate for endometrial atypical hyperplasia

        Objective: To compare the efficacy of metformin plus megestrol acetate (MA) with that of MA alone for treating endometrial atypical hyperplasia (EAH). Methods: This pilot study included 16 EAH patients who met at least one metabolic syndrome (MS) criterion and received either adjunctive metformin plus MA (MET group) or MA monotherapy (MA group). Each patient in the MA group received 160 mg of MA daily, whereas patients in the MET group received the same dose of MA plus 0.5 g of metformin thrice daily. Treatment response was assessed by histological examination of dilation and curettage specimens obtained after 12 weeks of therapy. Results: Each group had eight patients, and half of the patients in each group were diagnosed with MS. The complete response (CR) rate was 75% (6/8) in the MET group and 25% (2/8) in the MA group (p=0.105). Complications of MS did not affect the response rates in either group. In the MET group, 75% (3/4) of the patients had CR in the presence or absence of MS. In the MA group, 50% (2/4) of the patients with MS had CR, whereas no patient without MS had CR. No irreversible toxicities were observed. Conclusion: Metformin plus MA may be a potential alternative therapy for treating EAH, and the MS status of patients may have no effect on the efficacy of metformin plus MA therapy.

        Study on combustion and emission characteristics of chars from low-temperature and fast pyrolysis of coals with TG-MS

        To achieve the clean and efficient utilization of low-rank coal, the combustion and pollutant emission characteristics of chars from low-temperature and fast pyrolysis in a horizontal tube furnace were investigated in a TG-MS analyzer. According to the results, the combustion characteristic of chars was poorer than its parent coals. The temperature range of gaseous product release had a good agreement with that of TGA weight loss. Gaseous products of samples with high content of volatile were released earlier. The NO and NO₂ emissions of chars were lower than their parent coals. Coals of high rank (anthracite and sub-bituminous) released more NO and NO₂ than low rank coals of lignite, so were chars from coals of different ranks. SO₂ emissions of char samples were lower than parent coals and did not show obvious relationship with coal ranks.
