        Morphological Characteristics of Normal and Gynandromorphic Hyalomma asiaticum Schulze and Schlottke, 1930

        Gynandromorphic ticks are extremely rare, and often attract parasitologists’ attention. During our examination of tick specimens, an engorged gynandromorph of Hyalomma asiaticum was noticed. This is the first record of gynandromorphic ticks from China. In this study, several important morphological structures of normal and gynandromorphic H. asiaticum were analyzed. Comparing to the normal H. asiaticum, the gynandromorphic specimen was a typical bipartite protogynander. Its right side showed normal female characteristics, whereas the left side had normal male traits. Different from other gynandromorphic ticks containing 1 anus, this tick reported here had 2 complete anuses, and the anus of the male part had a single adanal plate.

        Detoxification, antioxidant, and digestive enzyme activities and gene expression analysis of Lymantria dispar larvae under carvacrol

        Carvacrol is a terpene compound with various biological activities. However, few studies have specifically focused on its insecticidal activity and mechanism of carvacrol. The larvae of Lymantria dispar are seriously harmful herbivorous insect. This study measured the antifeedant, growth-inhibitory, and toxic effects of carvacrol on L. dispar larvae. To further clarify the insecticidal mechanism of carvacrol, the effects of carvacrol on detoxifying enzymes, antioxidative enzymes, digestive enzyme activities, and the mRNA expression of the abovementioned enzyme genes were investigated. The results of the study showed that the median lethal concentration (LC 50 ) and the sublethal concentration (LC 20 ) of carvacrol were 1.120 mg/mL and 0.297 mg/mL, respectively, at 72 h. After LC 20 treatment of L. dispar larvae for 72 h, food intake and weight gain were significantly lower compared with the control. Enzyme activity assays showed that carvacrol significantly inhibited the activities of carboxylesterase (CarE), glutathione S-transferase (GST), and acetylcholinesterase (AchE), and the inhibition rate of AchE activity was highest (66.51%). Carvacrol also activated the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), while it inhibited the activities of lipase (LIP) and amylase (AMS), and first inhibited and then activated protease. In addition, qRT-PCR tests showed that carvacrol affected the mRNA expression levels of CarE, GST, AchE, SOD, CAT, LIP, AMS, and protease. This study helps to clarify the insecticidal mechanism of carvacrol on L. dispar larvae.

        Key challenges, recent advances and future perspectives of rechargeable lithium-sulfur batteries

        Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) battery, which releases energy by coupling high abundant sulfur with lithium metal,is considered as a potential substitute for the current lithium-ion battery. Thanks to the lightweight andmulti-electron reaction of sulfur cathode, the Li-S battery can achieve a high theoretical specific capacityof 1675 mAh g1 and specific energy of 2600 Wh kg1. However, some key scientific issues limit its practicalapplication, such as the ‘‘shuttle effect” of lithium polysulfides, large volume change, poor conductivityof sulfur and its solid-state products, and self-discharge phenomenon. Of these, the ‘‘shuttle effect”is recognized as the most critical challenge affecting on electrochemical performance. Hence, this reviewfirst systematically introduces the development of Li-S batteries and the corresponding ‘‘shuttle effect”. Then, the latest work on anode, cathode, separator and electrolyte are summarized. Finally, some promisingviews on the future research direction of this battery system are put forward.

        Diversity, distribution, and antagonistic activities of rhizobacteria of Panax notoginseng

        Background: Rhizobacteria play an important role in plant defense and could be promising sources of biocontrol agents. This study aimed to screen antagonistic bacteria and develop a biocontrol system for root rot complex of Panax notoginseng. Methods: Pure-culture methods were used to isolate bacteria from the rhizosphere soil of notoginseng plants. The identification of isolates was based on the analysis of 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) sequences. Results: A total of 279 bacteria were obtained from rhizosphere soils of healthy and root-rot notoginseng plants, and uncultivated soil. Among all the isolates, 88 showed antagonistic activity to at least one of three phytopathogenic fungi, Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium solani, and Phoma herbarum mainly causing root rot disease of P. notoginseng. Based on the 16S rRNA sequencing, the antagonistic bacteria were characterized into four clusters, Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Bacteroidetesi. The genus Bacillus was the most frequently isolated, and Bacillus siamensis (Hs02), Bacillus atrophaeus (Hs09) showed strong antagonistic activity to the three pathogens. The distribution pattern differed in soil types, genera Achromobacter, Acidovorax, Brevibacterium, Brevundimonas, Flavimonas, and Streptomyces were only found in rhizosphere of healthy plants, while Delftia, Leclercia, Brevibacillus, Microbacterium, Pantoea, Rhizobium, and Stenotrophomonas only exist in soil of diseased plant, and Acinetobacter only exist in uncultivated soil. Conclusion: The results suggest that diverse bacteria exist in the P. notoginseng rhizosphere soil, with differences in community in the same field, and antagonistic isolates may be good potential biological control agent for the notoginseng root-rot diseases caused by F. oxysporum, Fusarium solani, and Panax herbarum.

        Kinetics of Nitrogen Absorption in Molten AISI 316 Stainless Steel During Immersion Nitrogen Blowing

        Nitrogen absorption in molten metal for stainless steel AISI316 has been investigated by immersion nitrogen blowing through an immersed alumina nozzle with an internal diameter of 3 mm. Based on these experimental data, some kinetic parameters of nitrogen absorption, such as reaction order, rate constant and apparent activation energy of nitrogen absorption reaction, have been obtained. Effect of stirring by immersion nitrogen blowing through an immersed alumina nozzle on nitrogen absorption reaction has been observed. Results show the following: (1) Nitrogen absorption reaction is the −1.5th order reaction. The rate constant N is of the order of 10−5wt%2.5·min −1. Nitrogen absorption reaction for AISI 316 has negative apparent activation energy of −92.40 kJ·mol −1. This indicates that the nitrogen absorption reaction has a complex and multistep reaction mechanism. (2) The rate of nitrogen absorption reaction in molten stainless steel is mixture control by the adsorption of monatomic nitrogen on the surface of molten stainless steel and mass transfer in molten metal. (3) A rate equation of nitrogen absorption reaction has been derived based on a mixed control mechanism by both the -1st order nitrogen absorption reaction and mass transfer in molten metal.

        black shape - Take the exercise map for example

        Painting, as an artistic creation with aesthetic characteristics, is inseparable from "shape". "Modeling" is a subjective way of expressing objects, and "black shape" is not only a way of expression, but also a way of composition. "Black shape" is a way of expressing the overall picture of the creator, and "black shape" extracted from the pattern analysis of black and white gray structure is a powerful means to deeply explore the emotions and thoughts of the painter. How to create the expression of subjective intention in the creation of artificial figure painting and to explore the beauty of picture form and the presentation of formal language in multiple dimensions is always sought by painters. Tang Dynasty political stability, economic and cultural development of unprecedented prosperity, "Toujian Diu" as a representative painting of Tang Dynasty, the figure is plump and realistic, colorful but elegant. It not only represents the aesthetic taste of the Tang Dynasty, but also reflects the overall style of the Tang Dynasty's artificial figure painting. The aim of this paper is to explore the value of "black shape" in "Toughen Diagram" and analyze its multi-component form in depth.

        A novel PSO-based algorithm for structural damage detection using Bayesian multi-sample objective function

        Significant improvements to methodologies on structural damage detection (SDD) have emerged in recent years. However, many methods are related to inversion computation which is prone to be ill-posed or ill-conditioning, leading to lowcomputing efficiency or inaccurate results. To explore a more accurate solution with satisfactory efficiency, a PSO-INM algorithm, combining particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and an improved Nelder-Mead method (INM), is proposed to solve multi-sample objective function defined based on Bayesian inference in this study. The PSO-based algorithm, as a heuristic algorithm, is reliable to explore solution to SDD problem converted into a constrained optimization problem in mathematics. And the multi-sample objective function provides a stable pattern under different level of noise. Advantages of multi-sample objective function and its superior over traditional objective function are studied. Numerical simulation results of a two-storey frame structure show that the proposed method is sensitive to multi-damage cases. For further confirming accuracy of the proposed method, the ASCE 4-storey benchmark frame structure subjected to single and multiple damage cases is employed. Different kinds of modal identification methods are utilized to extract structural modal data from noise-contaminating acceleration responses. The illustrated results show that the proposed method is efficient to exact locations and extents of induced damages in structures.

        중국의 1997년 형법에서는 회사가 형사책임의 주체가 되는 것을 인정하였고, 회사범죄에 대해 쌍벌제를 확립하였으나 회사의 재범능력을 제한시키거나 박탈하는 자격형(資格刑)과 관련해서는 아직 보완해야 할 부분이 굉장히 많다. 본문에서는 중국의 1997년 형법에서 기업범죄 입법내용과 방식에 대한 연구를 토대로 자격형에 있어서 결점과 부족한 부분이 있음을 지적하고, 기업범죄에 새로운 자격형을 신설하는 것에 대한 합리성을 논증함과 동시에 대륙법계국가 중 특히 프랑스의 입법경험을 참고하여 기업범죄 중 형사책임과 관련된 규정을 보완하고자 하였다. Although the company has been recognized as the subject of criminal responsibility and the bipartite punishment system against corporate crimes has been established in`s new penal code, the are still far from perfect. This article, with the analysis of the contents and the mode of the corporate crimes’ regulations in China`s new penal code, points out the defects and deficiencies in the regulations of qualification penalty; and by demonstrating the reasonableness of setting new qualification penalties against the corporate crimes, suggests that we should learn the legislative experiences of civil law countries and further improve the regulations of corporates` criminal responsibility.
