Angiographic visualisation of the epidual vein has been tried to investigated by intraosseus injection of contrast agent into lumber spinous process and intravascular injection into iliac vein since first reported in 1954. Epidural venography is a relatively simple and highly accurate method in the diagnosis of lumber disc herniation. Recently, lumber epidural venography was performed by selective cathterization of ascending lumber vein or internal iliac vein. Lumber epidial venography is valuable are the diagnosis of lumber dics disease which is not demonstrated by the myelography, especially, lumber epidural venography is more accurate than myelography in the diagnosis of L5-S1 disc herniation and extreme lateral herniation. Another adventages of epidural venography are low complication and ease of performance. Epidural venography be recommended as an alternative method rather than an adjunctive to myelography. We performed 20 cases of epidural Venography compared with myelogrophic and operative findings for lumber disc disesase.

The aim of this study was to investigate the oxidative status and quality characteristics of four animal skin-derived fats extracted using an identical extraction method. Pressurized hot water extraction, a green extraction method, was used to extract animal skin fats (duck, chicken, swine, and bovine skin). Multiple experiments were performed during accelerated storage at 60°C for 90 days. Quality characteristics, such as extraction yield, iodine value (IV), fatty acid composition, and fat viscosity were determined. In addition, indicators for oxidative status, including acid value (AV), peroxide value (PV), p-anisidine value (p-AV), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), conjugated dienes (CD), and total oxidation (totox) values were evaluated. The fat extraction yield was highest in bovine fat, followed by duck, swine, and chicken fats. The IV was higher in duck and chicken fats. Duck fats contained the most unsaturated fats and the least saturated fats. Fat oxidation indicators, such as PV, TBARS, and totox values, were relatively higher in duck fats during storage compared to the other fats. Other indicators, including AV, p-AV, and CD, were similar in duck, chicken, and swine fats. Viscosity was similar in all the tested fats but markedly increased after 70 days of storage in duck fats. Our data indicate that duck skin fat was more vulnerable to oxidative changes in accelerated storage conditions and this may be due to its higher unsaturated fatty acid content. Supplementation with antioxidants might be a reasonable way to solve the oxidation issue in duck skin fats.

Objective: Sous-vide cooking offers several advantages for poultry meat, including enhanced tenderness, reduced cooking loss, and improved product yield. However, in duck meat, there are challenges associated with using the sous-vide method. The prolonged cooking time at low temperatures can lead to unstable microbial and oxidative stabilities. Thus, we aimed to assess how varying sous-vide cooking temperatures and durations affect the physicochemical and microbial characteristics of duck breast meat, with the goal of identifying an optimal cooking condition. Methods: Duck breast meat (Anas platyrhynchos) aged 42 days and with an average weight of 1,400±50 g, underwent cooking under various conditions (ranging from 50℃ to 80℃) for either 60 or 180 min. Then, physicochemical, microbial, and microstructural properties of the cooked duck breast meat were assessed. Results: Different cooking conditions affected the quality attributes of the meat. The cooking loss, lightness, yellowness, Hue angle, whiteness, and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) values of the duck breast meat increased with the increase in cooking temperature and time. In contrast, the redness and chroma values decreased with the increase in cooking temperature and time. Cooking of samples higher than 60℃ increased the volatile basic nitrogen contents and TBARS. Microbial analysis revealed the presence of Escherichia coli and Coliform only in the samples cooked at 50℃ and raw meat. Cooking at lower temperature and shorter time increased the tenderness of the meat. Microstructure analysis showed that the contraction of myofibrils and meat density increased upon increasing the cooking temperature and time. Conclusion: Our data indicate that the optimal sous-vide method for duck breast meat was cooking at 60℃ for 60 min. This temperature and time conditions showed good texture properties and microbial stability, and low level of TBARS of the duck breast meat.

Antibiotics are certainly beneficial to treat the bacterial infection. However, inappropriate use puts patients at danger for avoidable adverse drug reactions. This inappropriate use accelerates the emergence of resistance and potentially increases overall health-care costs. In oriental pharmacology, herbal medicines had been used as an antibiotic drug, but its antibiotic mechanism has not yet been proved completely. Here, we studied the antibiotic effects of Agrimonia pilosa on E. coli O157:H7. Especially, it is noteworthy that the antibiotic efficacy of the herb extract on three proven targets for a main antibiotic drug: bacterial cell wall biosynthesis, protein synthesis and DNA replication and repair. The results show the antibiotic effects through the inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis, folic acid synthesis, and multidrug efflux.

Patient and family caregiver concordance in decisional control preference was small for all three scenarios (weighted κ=0.32, κ=0.26, and κ=0.36, respectively). Higher patient education was associated with preference for patient dominance in treatment decision in conditions of both mild and severe cognitive impairment. The association of higher patient education and patient-caregiver preference concordance was positive with intact cognition, while it was negative with severe cognitive impairment.

Conclusion

Decision control preferences were affected by hypothesized cognitive status of the patients.
Objective.

Dyslipidemia, a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, is more prevalent in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) than in the general population. We investigated whether single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) modulating low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol affect susceptibility, severity, and progression of RA.

Methods.

We enrolled 302 patients with RA and 1636 healthy controls, and investigated the SNP modulating LDL cholesterol. Clinical characteristics of RA, serum adipocytokine concentrations, and radiographic severity were analyzed according to genotype score based on the number of unfavorable alleles. The influence of genotype score on radiographic progression was also investigated using multivariable logistic models.

Results.

We identified 3 SNP (rs688, rs693, and rs4420638) modulating LDL cholesterol in Koreans, which correlated well with LDL cholesterol levels in both patients with RA and controls. Among them, 2 SNP, rs688 and rs4420638, were more prevalent in patients with RA than in controls. In patients with RA carrying more unfavorable alleles (genotype score ≥ 3), disease activity measures, serum adipocytokine levels, and radiographic severity were all increased. The genotype score was an independent risk factor for radiographic progression of RA over 2 years, and its effect was greater than the influence of conventional risk factors.

Conclusion.

SNP modulating LDL cholesterol influence the risk, activity, and severity of RA. These results provide the first evidence that genetic mechanisms linked to dyslipidemia may directly contribute to the susceptibility and prognosis of RA, a representative of chronic inflammatory diseases, explaining the high incidence of dyslipidemia in RA.

For enhancing domestic EPC enterprise's competitiveness in the world market, it needs to achieve improvements in project management technique. Chief of all, procurement phrase comprise 50~60% of prime cost. Accordingly, expeditious management skill for procurement business affairs is urgently needed. The object of this research is to develop frame works for bid evaluation system of procurement phase which are possible to systematize bid evaluation task and support decision making. Research and development phrases are following in three steps. First, the detailed task process is builded for bid evaluation using the task process map from precedent studies. Second, functions for the system are designed according to the detailed task process. Third, the frame work is developed through the detailed task process and the functional components diagram for the system.
