A Frequency-Doubling Optoelectronic Oscillator using a Three-Arm Dual-Output Mach-Zehnder Modulator

This paper proposes a frequency-doubling optoelectronic oscillator employing a novel three-arm dualoutputMach-Zehnder modulator (MZM). One output of the MZM generates the fundamental-frequencysignal which is recycled by the microwave optical fiber link for oscillation, and the other output cangenerate the frequency-doubled signal. Experiment was conducted using a commercial two-arm MZM, aphase modulator, and an optical fiber link of 89 meters in length. A 19-GHz frequency-doubled signalwas successively obtained with fundamental signal suppression more than 36 dB.

This paper presents a new method for measuring the half-wave voltage Vπ of an electro-optic phase modulator based on a phase-modulated photonic link with interferometric demodulation. By using this method, the Vπ can be obtained with the RF voltage amplitude input required to achieve 1-dB gain compression of link and the differential delay of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. We measure the Vπ of a commercial phase modulator by using the presented method and the carrier/the first sideband intensity ratio method. Furthermore, we compare the two measurements with the typical value provided by the manufacturer. The experiment shows that this novel measurement method is feasible, straightforward, and accurate.

GST pull-down assays were used to characterize the SARS-CoV membrane (M) and nucleocapsid (N) interaction, and it was found that the amino acids 211-254 of N protein were essential for this interaction. When tetrad glutamines (Q) were replaced with glutamic acids (E) at positions of 240-243 of the N protein, the interaction was disrupted.

Using nitrogen-doped mesoporous carbon (NMC) as the support, several NiRe bimetallic catalysts withlow metal loading of 1 wt% were designed and prepared for the selective deoxygenation of oleic acid to n-heptadecanein the absence of hydrogen. Results showed that the Ni80Re20/NMC catalyst with a Ni/Re molar ratio of 80 : 20 achievedthe highest yield of n-heptadecane (92.3%) at 330 oC for 2 h in isopropanol solvent, and at a metal/oleic acid weightratio of 1 : 333. The catalyst can be reused at least five times with slight activity loss. Combined with the results of insituXRD, HRTEM, XPS and CO2-TPD, the formation of NiRe alloy, the very fine NiRe nanoparticle size at 2.30 nm, aswell as the hydrophobic, mesoporous and weakly basic properties of the NMC support surface were demonstrated tocontribute to the excellent catalytic performance of the catalyst.
