        In vitro efficacy of N-acetylcysteine in combination with antimicrobial agents against Pseudomonas aeruginosa in canine otitis externa

        Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most common pathogenic species associated with canine otitis externa (OE). Their resilience is achieved by forming a biofilm, which allows these bacteria to evade even the harshest of treatments. This study evaluated the in vitro synergistic efficacy of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) with different antimicrobial agents against P. aeruginosa isolated from dogs with OE to develop an effective treatment against P. aeruginosa. The antimicrobial activity was evaluated by the minimum inhibitory concentration test using the microdilution method. The efficacy of antibiofilm formation was evaluated using a crystal violet stain method. The treatment solutions included NAC alone, and in synergy with enrofloxacin, polymyxin B, and gentamicin. NAC alone exhibited antimicrobial and antibiofilm abilities. On the other hand, the combination of NAC and the antibiotics did not show any significant synergistic effects against P. aeruginosa.

        유아교육용 모바일 애플리케이션 UX 평가표 개발에 관한 연구

        스마트 디바이스의 사용이 전 연령으로 확대되면서 교육과 연관된 유아교육용 애플리케이션 시장이 양적으로 성장하였다. 성인과 달리 유아에게 있어서는 과몰입, 중독과 같은 부작용에 대한 우려가 제기되고 있으나, 교육적 측면에서의 실효성에 대한 실증적인 연구결과가 속속 보고되고 있다. 그 결과에 따르면, 멀티미디어를 활용한 유아교육은 창의성 계발에 효과가 있고, 부모나 교사 또는 또래와 함께 사용한다면, 과몰입이나 중독과 같은 부작용을 피할 수 있으며, 유아를 위한 좋은 교구와 장난감으로 활용하기에 충분한 가치를 가질 수 있다. 이러한 순기능을 누리기 위해서는 부모나 교사가 유아를 위해 어떤 가치를 가지는 애플리케이션을 선택하느냐 하는 것이 중요한데, 이를 판단하기 위한 객관적인 근거나 기준은 앱 마켓 다운로드 회수나 제품리뷰 등으로 현재 부족한 실정이다. 보다 객관적이고 다양한 분류의 제공과 전문가적 관점에서 필요한 기준이 요구되고 있는 현 상황에서, 전문가들이 유아교육용 애플리케이션에 대한 평가지표로 활용할 수 있는 유아교육용 모바일 애플리케이션 UX 평가표를 개발하기 위한 연구를 진행하였다. 또한, 개발된 평가표를 실제 운용 중인 애플리케이션에 적용하여 평가표의 실질적인 활용가능성을 살펴보았다. 전문가뿐만 아니라, 부모나 교사처럼 애플리케이션의 선별이 필요한 사용자들은 전문가에 의해 평가되어 분석된 결과를 선택을 위한 판단 기준으로 사용할 수 있으며, 유아교육용 애플리케이션 공급자들에게는 기획 및 제작에 대한 가이드로서 UX 평가표를 참조할 수 있을 것이라 기대한다. As the usage of smart devices has expanded to those in all age brackets, the application market for early childhood education has grown in quantity. Despite the magnificent growth in quantity, the side effects such as overindulgence and addiction for infants is of concern to many people. However, some of the results from the empirical researches concerning efficacy in terms of the education aspect have been reported often recently. According to the results, multimedia could be used as an educational equipment and the interesting toy for infants that stimulates their creativity and potential. The side effects such as overindulgence and addiction could be controlled and supervised under the guidance of parents or in the peer play. To enjoy these benefits of multimedia, it is important to choose the right application by parents or teachers for infants. However, an objective basis or standard for determining this is not satisfactory at the moment. Lately, more objective and diverse classifications and standards of the professional perspective have been required rather than the number of app market downloads or product reviews, thus the researchers have studied to develope a“mobile application UX assessment table for infant education" that can be used as the assessment indices of applications in early childhood education for professionals. The study has also applied the assesment to on use applications to analyse its usability and utilizability. This can be utilized as one of the assesment indices for professionals as it offers standards of application selection for users such as parents or teachers who need strict selection criteria for beneficial applications. It is also highly expected that the table could be a guide to application suppliers whom design and manufacture applications for infants.

        Meaning-Making 기반 진로교육프로그램이 대학생의 진로적응성에 미치는 효과

        본 연구는 Meaning Making에 기반한 진로교육프로그램이 대학생들의 진로적응성에 미치는 효과를 검증하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 전문가의 내용타당도 검증을 거쳐 Meaning Making 진로교육프로그램을 개발하고 진로적응성 검사를 프로그램 전후로 실시한 후 효과를 검증하였다. Meaning Making에 기반한 진로교육프로그램을 개발하기 위하여 기존의 자기이해, 진로탐색, 진로준비로 구성되는 영역에 삶의 의미 찾기와 성찰 등의 영역 등을 강화하여 프로그램을 구성하였으며 대학의 취업지원관과 관련 분야 교수 등6인을 선정하여 내용타당도를 검증하였다. 이후 총 10회기로 구성된 Meaning Making 진로교육프로그램을 운영하였으며 연구대상은 소속대학에서 운영하고 있는 학생지도 체제인L ab을 통해 참여를 지원한 2, 3년생 42명이다. 프로그램 실시 전․후로 실험집단과 통제집단에게 사전검사와 사후검사를 실시하였으며 사전검사 점수를 공변인으로 하는 공변량분석을 통하여 프로그램의 효과를 검증하였다. 연구결과 Meaning Making에 기반한 진로교육프로그램은 일부 하위영역인 창의성과 대인관계, 직무능력을 제외하고 책임감과 목표의식, 개방성, 주도성, 긍정적 태도 등에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있었다. 본 프로그램은 자신에 대한 이해와 탐구를 바탕으로 삶의 의미를 찾아나가고 이 토대위에서 목표를 설정하고 계획해 나가며 성찰할 수 있도록 진행되었기 때문에 창의성에 긍정적 영향을 미치지는 않았어도 다양한 문화를 편견 없이 수용하며 새로운 환경을 잘 받아들이는가를 측정한 개방성 영역에는 효과가 있었던 것으로 나타나 전체적으로 진로 적응성이 향상되는 것으로 판단할 수 있다. 따라서 이 프로그램을 통해 대학 재학기간동안 자기 주도적이고 체계적인 진로계획을 실천하여 진로 적응성을 향상시켜 나가는데 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다. The purpose of this study is to develop the career education program based on meaning making and to examine its effect for college student"s career development with career adaptability. To develop a career education program based on meaning making, the program was composed of ‘meaning making for life’ and ‘reflection’ along with the other career education program module which are self-understanding, career searching, and career preparation. The validity of the contents were verified by 6 people including career consultant of University and professors with related specialties. The subjects used in this study were 42 college students who volunteered to participate in this program. They were assigned to an experimental group (n=21) and a control group (n=21). The career eduction program was composed of 10 sessions focussing on meaning making. For data analysis, ANCOVA with covariate variable as a pretest score carried out. There were statistically significant differences in some factors such as responsibility, goal setting, openness, proactivity, positive attitude. There was no significant differences in factors such as creativity, interpersonal relationship, and job competence. This program was useful so that students could set their goal, plan, and reflect themselves on the basis of meaning making based on understanding and exploring oneself. Therefore, even though the program did not have any effect on creativity, it had positive influence on the factor of openess, which is measured by how much one can accept a new environment and embrace various cultures without prejudice. Ultimately, the program seems to improve career adaptability overall.

        DNA aptamer immobilized hydroxyapatite for enhancing angiogenesis and bone regeneration

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this study, we developed aptamer-conjugated hydroxyapatite (Apt-HA) that promotes bone regeneration and angiogenesis. The 3R02 bivalent aptamer specific to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) was grafted to the hydroxyapatite (HA) surface. Apt-HA was tested for its VEGF protein capture ability to determine the optimal aptamer concentration immobilized on the HA. Apt-HA showed higher VEGF protein capture ability, and faster growth of human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) compared to a neat HA with no cytotoxic effects on human osteoblasts. To examine <I>in vivo</I> angiogenesis and bone regeneration, Apt-HA and HA were bilaterally implanted into rabbit tibial metaphyseal defects and analyzed after eight weeks using micro-CT, histology, and histomorphometry. Apt-HA showed significantly increased the volume of new bones, the percentage of bone, and the density of bone mineral in cortical bone. Apt-HA also exhibited the enhanced bone formation at the cortical region in a histomorphometric analysis. Finally, Apt-HA showed significantly increased blood vessel number compared to a neat HA. In summary, the engineered Apt-HA has potential as a bone graft material that may simultaneously promote bone regeneration and angiogenesis.</P> <P><B>Statement of Significance</B></P> <P>This work presents a functional hydroxyapatite bone graft using a DNA-based aptamer which overcomes the limitations of existing bone graft materials, which use bound signaling peptides.</P> <P>DNA aptamer immobilized hydroxyapatite enhances the <I>in vitro</I> proliferation of human umbilical vascular endothelial cells as well as <I>in vivo</I> angiogenesis and bone regeneration.</P> <P>DNA aptamer immobilized hydroxyapatite shows no cytotoxic effect on human osteoblasts.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        Design and Fabrication of Electrostatic Inkjet Head using Silicon Micromachining Technology

        This paper presents design and fabrication of optimized geometry structure of electrostatic inkjet head. In order to verify effect of geometry shape, we simulate electric field intensity according to the head structure. The electric field strength increases linearly with increasing height of the micro nozzle. As the nozzle diameter decreases, the electric field along the periphery of the meniscus can be more concentrated. We design and fabricate the electrostatic inkjet heads, hole type and pole type, with optimized structure. It was fabricated using thick-thermal oxidation and silicon micromachining technique such as the deep reactive ion etching (DRIE) and chemical wet etching process. It is verified experimentally that the use of the MEMS inkjet head allows a stable and sustainable microdripping mode of droplet ejection. A stable micro dripping mode of ejection is observed under the voltages 2.5 kV and droplet diameter is 10 ㎛.

        초음파 내시경 유도하 세침 흡인술을 이용하여 진단된 췌장의 림프 상피성 낭종

        Although lymphoepithelial cysts (LECs) of the pancreas are benign lesions, most of them have been treated with surgical resection due to diagnostic difficulty. We report a 66-year-old woman diagnosed with pancreatic LECs. Abdominal ultrasound revealed two masses in the pancreas, which were not visible on the abdominal computed tomography. In an abdominal magnetic resonance imaging, pancreas lesions showed solid tumors, which revealed a low signal intensity on T1-, moderate high signal intensity on T2 weighted images, and homogeneous delayed enhancement in the portal venous phase. Endosonography (EUS) revealed two hypoechoic round masses measuring 1.5 cm and 4.5 cm in the body and tail of the pancreas, respectively. EUS-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) revealed squamous cells, amorphous keratinous debris, and lymphocytes. The patient was diagnosed with LECs of the pancreas. For the duration of the follow-up period of two years, imaging studies were unchanged. EUS-FNA is useful in making a definite diagnosis and avoiding unnecessary surgery. This is the first case of pancreatic LECs diagnosed with EUS-FNA in Korea. (Korean J Gastroenterol 2017;69:253-258)
