        This study is aimed at investigating the effects of aerobic exercise of female college students on blood lipids and body fat percentage. Twelve female students were selected for this study and each 6 of them were alloted into the control group and experiment group. The experiment group underwent jogging for 12 weeks and its effects on blood lipids and body fat percentage were measured at the 4th, 8th and final week of the jogging program. The outcomes of the experiment could be summarized as follows: 1. As for HDL-C due to jogging, the experiment group showed an eminent increase with statistical significance(p<.05). 2. In case of LDL-C following jogging, there was a great amount of decrease in the experiment group after the exercise with statistical significance(p<.05). In sum, it is revealed from the present study that the prescribed magnitude and length of exercise can be of help for HDL-C and LDL-C that have been recognized as indicators for diseases of adult people.

The outcome of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in Korean children with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.Pediatr Transplantation 2010: 14:735–740. © 2010 John Wiley & Sons A/S.</P><P>Abstract: </P><P>Chemoimmunotherapy-based treatments have improved the survival of patients with HLH, but outcomes of the patients are still unsatisfactory. We report here the outcome of Korean children with HLH who underwent HSCT, which was analyzed from the data of a nation-wide HLH registry. Retrospective nation-wide data recruitment for the pediatric HLH patients diagnosed between 1996 and 2008 was carried out by the Histiocytosis Working Party of the Korean Society of Hematology. Nineteen patients who received HSCT among the total of 148 enrolled children with HLH were analyzed for the transplant-related variables and events. The probability of five-yr survival after HSCT was 73.3% with a median follow-up of 57. Two months compared to 54.3% for the patients who were treated with chemoimmunotherapy only (p<I> </I>=<I> </I>0.05). The reasons for HSCT were active disease after eight wk of initial treatment (n = 9), relapsed disease (n = 5), and FHL (n = 5). Fourteen patients are currently alive without disease after HSCT, four patients died of treatment-related events (infection in two and graft failure in two) at early post-transplant period, and one patient died of relapse at one yr post transplantation. The survival of patients who were transplanted because of active disease after eight wk of initial treatment was worse compared to those patients who had inactive state at that time (60.6% vs. 100%, respectively, p<I> </I>=<I> </I>0.06). Of the four patients who received transplants using cord blood, three died of graft failure (n = 2) and relapse (n = 1). The five-yr probability of survival after HSCT according to the donor type was 85.7% for the MRDs (n = 6), 87.5% for the MUDs (n = 8), and 40% for the MMUDs (n = 5) (p<I> </I>=<I> </I>0.03). Other variables such as age, CNS involvement at the time of diagnosis, the etiology of HLH (familial or secondary), and the conditioning regimens had no influence on the five-yr OS of the HLH patients who underwent HSCT. HSCT improved the survival of the patients who had familial, relapsed, or severe and persistent SHLH in the Korean nation-wide HLH registry. Although numbers were small, these results are similar to other reports in the literature. The disease state after initial treatment, the stem cell source of the transplant, and the donor type were the important prognostic factors that affected the OS of the HLH patients who underwent HSCT.</P>

        Identification and expression of adenosine deaminases acting on tRNA (ADAT) during early tail regeneration of the earthworm

        Background RNA editing is a widespread phenomenon in all metazoans. One of the common RNA editing event is the chemical conversion of adenosine to inosine (A-to-I) catalyzed by adenosine deaminases acting on tRNA (ADAT). During D. melanogaster development, the ADAT1 transcript was found to localize mainly to the central nervous system including brain and ventral nerve cord during brain development. Although an earthworm adenosine deaminases acting on mRNA (ADAR) has been identifed and its possible implication in earthworm regeneration has been investigated, there is little accumulated information on ADAT and tRNA editing in the annelid including terrestrial earthworms. Objective This study aimed to investigate the molecular characteristics and the expression pattern of earthworm ADAT during tail regeneration to understand its physiological signifcance. Methods Nucleotide sequence of Ean-ADAT was retrieved from the genome assembly of Eisenia andrei via Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST). The genome assembly of Eisenia andrei was downloaded from National Genomics Data Center (http://bigd.big.ac.cn/gwh/). The alignment and phylogenetic relationship of the core deaminase domains of ADATs and ADARs were analyzed. Its temporal expression during early tail regeneration was measured using real-time PCR. Results The open reading frame of Ean-ADAT consists of 1719 nucleotides encoding 573 amino acids. Domain analysis indicates that Ean-ADAT has a deaminase domain composed of 498 amino acids and a predicted nuclear localization signal at the N-terminal. Its subcellular localization was predicted to be nuclear. The core deaminase region of Ean-ADAT encompasses the three active-site motifs, including zinc-chelating residues and a glutamate residue for catalytic activity. In addition, Ean-ADAT shares highly conserved RNA recognition region fanking the third cysteine of the deaminase motif with other ADAT1s even from the yeast. Multiple sequence alignment and phylogenetic analysis indicate that Ean-ADAT shows greater similarity to vertebrate ADARs than to yeast Tad1p. Ean-ADAT mRNA expression began to remarkably decrease before 12 h post-amputation, showing a tendency to gradual decrease until 7 dpa and then it slightly rebounded at 10 dpa. Conclusions Our results demonstrate that Ean-ADAT belongs to a class of ADAT1s and support the hypothesis of a common evolutionary origin for ADARs and ADATs. The temporal expression of Ean-ADAT could suggest that its activity is unrelated to the molecular mechanisms of dediferentiation.

        화장품 소재로서 가막살나무 추출물의 항염증 효능

        본 연구에서는 가막살나무(Viburnum dilatatum Thunb.)의 잎과 세지로부터 유래되는 천연화학성분들을 얻고, 이들의 자극완화용 화장품 소재로써의 가능성을 확인하기 위하여 항산화 효능 및 항염증 효능을 조사하였다. DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl)를 이용한 전자공여능 측정방법에 의한 항산화 효능 조사 결과, 가막살나무의 에탄올 (Ethanol) 추출물(SC<sub>50</sub> = 17.03 μg/mL), 에틸아세테이트(ethyl acetate) 분획물(SC<sub>50</sub> = 13.97 μg/mL), 부탄올(butanol) 분획물(SC<sub>50</sub> = 10.30 μg/mL) 순으로 항산화능력이 증가함을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 lipopolysaccharide (LPS)에 의해 활성화된 마우스 대식세포(RAW264.7 cells)에서 생성되는 산화질소(nitric oxide : NO) 생성의 억제능을 조사한 결과에서는 항산화 활성이 저조했던 헥산(hexane) 및 메틸렌클로라이드(methylene chloride) 분획물에서 10 μg/mL 시료농도를 기준으로 할 때, 50 % 이상의 NO 생성 억제율로 우수한 항염증 효능을 나타내었다. 특히, 위와 동일 실험 조건에서 헥산 분획물의 경우, 염증 반응 인자인 TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6 등의 cytokine과 iNOS, COX-2 효소의 발현이 농도 의존적으로 억제됨을 RT-PCR 방법으로 확인할 수 있었다. 이번 연구 결과들로부터 가막살나무 유래 천연화학성분들은 자극완화용 화장품 소재 개발에 매우 유리하게 응용될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. The crude ethanol extracts and their solvent-partitioned fractions derived from the leaf and twig of Viburnum dilatatum Thunb. were investigated for their 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging efficacy. The results showed that the butanol-soluble fraction (SC<sub>50</sub> = 10.30 μg/mL) exhibited higher anti-oxidant activity than the crude ethanol extract (SC<sub>50</sub> = 17.03 μg/mL) in the DPPH assay model. Then, the effects of the same extract samples on the production of nitric oxide were examined in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Although the hexane and methylene chloride-soluble fraction showed a weak anti-oxidant activity, they exhibited potent inhibitory activity of NO production above 50 % at a concentration of 10 μg/mL. The hexane-soluble fraction also showed the inhibitory effect on mRNA expression of pro-inflammatory mediators such an TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, iNOS and COX-2 in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7. These results suggest that the solvent extracts of Viburnum dilatatum Thunb. could be used as an anti-irritation ingredient.

      • Comparison of Clinical Outcomes Following Hepatic Resection in NAFLD-related Hepatocellular Carcinoma and HBV-related Hepatocellular Carcinoma : Propensity Score-Matched Analysis

        Aims: Since it was first reported in 1990, NAFLD-related HCC has increased with the increase in metabolic syndrome. In the prior study, the prognosis for NAFLD-related HCC is controversial, and a comparison with HBV-HCC is insufficient. Clinical characteristics of HCC caused by NAFLD or HBV were compared in a retrospective analysis. Methods: A total of 338 patients underwent hepatic resection for HCC in Severance Hospital between 2005 and 2015 were retrospectively reviewed. Metabolic syndrome is defined according to the NCEP-ATP III report. Occult HBV infection was identified by nested PCR analysis using known primers. Propensity analysis was carried out using logistic regression in order to minimize lead-time bias caused by lack of surveillance in NAFLD patients. Surgical and oncologic outcomes were compared between two groups. Results: Among 338 patients underwent hepatectomy for HCC, 23(6.9%) had NAFLD-HCC. Before matched analysis, cirrhosis was more detected in HBV-HCC patient. (30.4 vs 61.3%, P=0.004). Surgical outcomes were similar between the two groups, especially in morbidity rates (22.0 vs 26.1%, P=0.795), in hospital stay (12.0 vs 13.4 days, P=0.379) and in intraoperative bleeding (495 vs 442mL, P=0.659). Tumor size is larger in the NALFD group than in the HBV group (4.6 vs 3.3cm, P=0.004). After a median follow-up of 63.0 months (range 0-139 months), although not statistically significant, the survival analyses after propensity score-matching showed similar 5- year overall survival (44.3 vs 44.3%, P=0.317) and recurrent-free survival rates (67.4 vs 65.1%, P=0.483) between the two groups. Conclusions: In NAFLD group, the tumor size is larger than HBV group at the time of diagnosis, but there were no statistically significant differences in the long-term outcomes between the two groups after matched analysis for tumor size. These results might result from a delayed diagnosis in patients with a more advanced tumor stage rather than to a more aggressive biology of tumor.

        Silane-based wet and plasma coating on SrAl2O4:Eu2+, Dy3+ phosphor for surface modification

        To date, organizations in many countries have tried persistent phosphors to apply in the field of safety facilities such as road striping and signs to improve visibility. However, the road facilities were usually exposed to harsh conditions such as pouring and wearing. Therefore, the surface coating and modifications of the phosphor are researched to improve the stability and adhesivity for binder material. Herein, we report the comparison of wet and plasma coating method for surface modification. Three kinds of silane functional materials for coating agent with different characteristic was chosen. From the results, we could confirm that the uniformity of the coating is better in the case of the plasma process. And the plasma-coated phosphor with the coating agent which has long carbon chain maintains the luminescence intensity over 50% after soaking in water for 48h, despite the pristine phosphor almost loses the luminescence characteristics occurring the phase transition.

        Motion Analysis and EMG Analysis of the Pelvis and Lower Extremity according to the Width Variation of the Base of Support

        The purpose of this study is to identify which width of the base of support(BOS) is safer and more effective in lifting by comparing muscle activations and body sways when lifting objects under the width variation of the BOS. A total of fifteen healthy adults participated in this study. For the width variation of the BOS, the participants changed the width between their feet into three different types(10cm, 32cm, 45cm) and lifted a 10kg four times in each type after going up on a force plate. In order to measure body sways according to the width variation of the BOS, a motion analysis system was used. In addition, in order to measure the muscle activations of lower extremities, including the erector spinae, gluteus maximus, rectus femoris, and tibialis anterior, an electromyogram(EMG) analysis was employed. In addition, the Borg's scale was drawn by quantifying the subjective discomfort levels felt from each width of the BOS. In conclusion, no statistically significant differences according to the width variation of the BOS were observed(p=.295, .308)(p>.05). However, a statistically significant difference was exhibited between the Borg's scale, which indicates the discomfort levels from lifting performances, and the width variation of the BOS (p=$.000^*$).

      • Hexokinase-II Inhibition Synergistically Augments the Anti-tumor Efficacy of Sorafenib in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

        <P>This study aimed to examine whether inhibition of hexokinase (HK)-II activity enhances the efficacy of sorafenib in in-vivo models of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and to evaluate the prognostic implication of HK-II expression in patients with HCC. We used 3-bromopyruvate (3-BP), a HK-II inhibitor to target HK-II. The human HCC cell line was tested as both subcutaneous and orthotopic tumor xenograft models in BALB/c nu/nu mice. The prognostic role of HK-II was evaluated in data from HCC patients in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database and validated in patients treated with sorafenib. Quantitative real-time PCR, western blot analysis, and immunohistochemical staining revealed that HK-II expression is upregulated in the presence of sorafenib. Further analysis of the endoplasmic reticulum-stress network model in two different murine HCC models showed that the introduction of additional stress by 3-BP treatment synergistically increased the in vivo/vitro efficacy of sorafenib. We found that HCC patients with increased HK-II expression in the TCGA database showed poor overall survival, and also confirmed similar results for TCGA database HCC patients who had undergone sorafenib treatment. These results suggest that HK-II is a promising therapeutic target to enhance the efficacy of sorafenib and that HK-II expression might be a prognostic factor in HCC.</P>

        Unusual Photopolymerization Behavior of Amino Acid-Derived Polydiacetylene Supramolecules

        <P>UV-irradiation of aqueous suspensions of amino acid-derived amphiphilic diacetylene supramolecules promotes a process that involves initial formation of species that absorb at 640 nm followed by the generation of polymers that have longer wavelength (686 nm) absorbance. The initially formed intermediate polydiacetylenes display substantial colorimetric reversibility while the long wavelength absorbing polymers show irreversible thermochromism during heating and cooling cycles.         The Effects of Subliminal Music with Balance Imagery Training on Balance and Concentration

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to estimate the effects of subliminal music with balance imagery training on balance and concentration. Methods: The participants were 45 seniors in an undergraduate school in Korea. The subliminal music with balance imagery training intervention was carried out for 20 minutes. Other interventions were also carried out for 20 minutes. 12 seniors(Group A) listened to subliminal music with balance imagery training, 12 seniors(Group B) listened to subliminal music, 11 seniors(Group C) received balance imagery training, and 10 seniors(Group D) had no intervention(Control group). The grid test is related to measured levels of concentration intensity. Romberg one legged standing test was carried out for 30 seconds. The collected data was analyzed by one-paired t test and one way ANOVA using the SPSS Windows 12 ver. program. Results: The major findings of this study were as follows: Concentration levels of Group A and C improved, and balance levels of Group C and D improved. There was a statistically significant decrease in concentration between Group A and B, Group A and C after intervention. Conclusion: These findings suggest that listening to subliminal music with balance imagery training may be useful in managing concentration in seniors. So it provides basic information for further concentration on improving education on music with balance imagery training.
