<P>Owing to the role of exosome as a cargo for intercellular communication, especially in cancer metastasis, the evidence has been consistently accumulated that exosomes can be used as a noninvasive indicator of cancer. Consequently, several studies applying exosome have been proposed for cancer diagnostic methods such as ELISA assay. However, it has been still challenging to get reliable results due to the requirement of a labeling process and high concentration of exosome. Here, we demonstrate a label-free and highly sensitive classification method of exosome by combining-enhanced (SERS) and statistical surface Raman, scattering pattern analysis. Unlike the conventional method to read different peak positions and amplitudes of a spectrum, whole SERS spectra of exosomes were analyzed by principal component analysis (PCA). By employing this pattern analysis, lung cancer cell derived exosomes were clearly distinguished from normal cell derived exosomes by 95.3% sensitivity and 97.3% specificity. Moreover, by analyzing the PCA result, we could suggest that this difference was induced by 11 different points in SERS signals from lung cancer cell derived exosomes. This result paved the way for new real-time diagnosis and classification of lung cancer by using exosome as a cancer marker.</P>

<P>The ground-state reverse proton transfer (GSRPT) of 7-hydroxyquinoline (7HQ) along a hydrogen (H)-bonded mixed-alcohol chain made of different two alcohol molecules having dissimilar proton-donating abilities, designed as a biomimetic system of a proton wire composed of various amino acids, has been investigated in nonpolar aprotic media of <I>n</I>-alkanes using time-resolved transient-absorption spectroscopy with variation of alcohol combinations and medium viscosities. Solvent-inventory experiments have been carried out by varying the composition of alcohols systematically in the heterogeneous H-bonded alcohol chain to understand the molecular dynamics and the elementary mechanisms of GSRPT. Similarly to excited-state proton transfer, GSRPT takes place concertedly without accumulating any reaction intermediate but asymmetrically via a rate-determining tunneling process, and GSRPT is accelerated by the accumulated proton-donating abilities of two alcohol molecules participating in the H-bond chain by push-ahead effect. However, in the ground state, the reorganization of the H-bond bridge in a cyclic 7HQ·(alcohol)<SUB>2</SUB> complex to form an optimal precursor configuration for efficient proton tunneling takes place prior to intrinsic proton transfer, and the rate constant of GSRPT is governed mainly by configurational optimization. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dosimetric characteristics of optically stimulated luminescent dosimeters (OSLDs) for application in intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT). Dose measurements were performed using a customized phantom fabricated using a three-dimensional (3D) printer and a low-energy (50 kV) X-ray INTRABEAM™ system (Carl Zeiss Surgical GmbH, Oberkochen, Germany). The phantom was equipped with a housing slot for the placement of parallel plate ionization chamber or OSLD. Dosimetric characteristics of the OSLD, i.e. radiation sensitivity, linearity, and reproducibility, were analyzed. In addition, the variation in sensitivity after the irradiation with high dose was estimated. After the irradiation of 1 Gy to the 80 OSLDs, measured doses were to range between 0.92 Gy and 1.04 Gy, with an average sensitivity of 2.1%. To ensure the reproducibility of the OSLDs, the sensitivity was reduced via repeated measurements—a decrease in sensitivity of approximately 6% is observed. After the irradiation with high dose, evaluation of reproducibility revealed variations in sensitivity, with an average sensitivity of 2.9%. Therefore, the dosimetric corrections are necessary for the OSLD based on measurements in IORT environments. The use of the aforementioned correction factors is expected to improve the precision of in vivo dosimetry during IORT.

This study empirically analyzes whether legalized gambling is a substitute for or a complement to illegal gambling by conducting a case study on sports betting. For this purpose, we first estimate determinants of sales of legal sports betting (e.g., Sports Toto/Proto) and illegal sports betting with a time series econometric model. In addition, from cross-sectional data obtained from 1,000 participants of sports betting, we examine the impacts of increased competitiveness of legal sports betting on illegal sports betting. Through time series analysis, we find that legal and illegal sports betting have a substitute relationship, but the relationship is weak due to the relative competitiveness of illegal sports betting in areas including accessibility, variety of products, and odds of winning. Cross-sectional data analysis reinforces the findings of the time series analysis. That is, instituting measures to deregulate restrictions on legal sports betting such as allowing purchases on mobile phones, 24-hour purchases, and higher odds of winning would significantly increase its substitution effect. The results suggest that policy effectiveness can be enhanced by steering illegal gambling to the legal domain by improving competitiveness of legal gambling, contrary to the prevailing tendency to focus on regulatory and punitive measures.

The extended kalman filter based on the battery model is widely used as an SOC estimation algorithm. However, the conventional extended kalman filter uses a single parameter without reflecting the parameters of the ECM that change according to the SOC. However, if the variation of the ECM parameters are not updated, the SOC estimation accuracy is adversely impact. To improve this problem, many research on adaptive ECM parameters have been conducted. In this paper, among the methods, grouping and curve fitting methods for ECM parameters were compared. Using the battery FUDS profile, the SOC estimation performance and algorithm running time of the conventional method and the extended kalman filter to which the adaptive ECM parameters were applied were claculated through simulation.
