Synthesis and characterization of UV-curable polyurethane acrylates with PLA and PEG

<P>To reduce carbon dioxide emission of materials, two eco-friendly diols, poly(lactide) (PLA) diol and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) were applied for the synthesis of polyurethane acrylates (PUAs). PUAs with acrylate-ended groups were synthesized and then their mixtures were copolymerized by UV. The cured PUAs were characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, drop shape analysis, universal testing machine, and dynamic mechanical analyzer. The cured PUAs showed single Tg due to well distribution of diols. Tensile strength and Tg of the cured PUAs increased with the content of PLA diol. As the content of PEG in the PUAs increases, thermal stability and hydrophilicity were improved. The results showed that the mechanical and thermal properties of synthesized PUAs could be controlled by diol ratio.</P>
Physiological Activities from Solvent Fraction of Agrimonia pilosa

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the physiological activities(α-glucosidase, tyrosinase, elastase) to discover the potential of Agrimonia pilosa as a functional food material. The ethanol extract was fractionated into n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate(EA), n-butanol, and water. As a result of measuring the tyrosinase inhibitory activity to examine the anti-whitening activity, the activity of the EA fraction was 69%, which was higher than that of other fractions. As a result of measuring elastase activity, the activity of the EA fraction was the highest, followed by chloroform and n-butanol fraction. Additionally, to analyze the antidiabetic activity, α-glucosidase inhibitory activity was measured, and as a result, EA and n-butanol showed the significantly highest inhibitory activities. Through this experiment, it was confirmed that the extract of A. pilosa and its solvent fractions were effective as anti-whitening and anti-aging materials as well as health functionalities and cosmetic materials. In addition, the antidiabetic activity of A. pilosa was confirmed, and thus, the potential of A. pilosa as an excellent health functional food material was confirmed.

본 연구는 콩 가공처리를 통해 우수한 생리활성을 가진 비배당체 이소플라본(genistein, daidzein, glycitein)의 함량을 증진시키기 위해 수행되었다. 본 연구를 위해 콩 발아, 볶음, 증숙가공 처리를 각각 진행하였으며 발아가공은 시간에 따라(12~48시간) 진행하였다. 볶음 가공은 220~240°C에서 시간(10, 12, 14, 16분)별로 진행하였으며 증숙가공은 온도(60, 80, 95°C)에 따른 시간(1~4시간)별로 진행하였다. 그 결과 발아, 볶음, 증숙조건에서 대부분 가공시간이 길수록 배당체(genistin, daidzin, glycitin)와 malonyl, acetyl 배당체의 함량이 낮아지고 비배당체(genistein, daidzein, glycitein)의 함량이 높아짐을 확인하였는데, 이는 비배당체로 전환되었음을 유추할 수 있었다. 발아처리를 4시간 진행하였을 때 비배당체로의 전환이 효율적이었으며 daidzein과 genistein의 함량이 24.88, 18.15 μg/g dw였고 glycitein은 검출되지 않았다. 볶음처리는 16분 진행하였을 때 비배당체로의 전환이 효율적이었는데 daidzein, glycitein, genistein의 함량이 각각 212.5, 59.8, 182.1 μg/g dw로 확인되었으며, 증숙처리의 경우 60°C에서 4시간 처리하였을 때 daidzein, glycitein, genistein의 함량이 각각 59.3, 10.2, 56.76 μg/g dw로 확인되었다. 본 연구를 통해 볶음처리가 비배당체 증진을 위한 효율적인 가공법임을 확인할 수 있었고 추가적인 연구를 통해 더 높은 함량의 콩 비배당체 함량이 기대된다. 또한 이를 토대로 비배당체 이소플라본이 고함유된 콩을 활용한 건강식품 개발 적용이 가능할 것으로 기대된다. Isoflavone is a representative functional components in soybean, and especially aglycones (daidzein, genistein, and glycitein) are known to have high physiological activities. This study aimed to examine an effective processing method for generating a high content of aglycone during soybean germination, roasting and steaming. Our results reveal an increasing aglycone content with increasing treatment time during germination, roasting and steaming. In particular, it was confirmed that the glycoside isoflavones are efficiently converted into aglycones during the roasting process. After roasting for 16 minutes, the fold-increase contents of daidzein was about 102 times (1.78→180.08 μg/g dw), and genistein was about 433 times (0.49→212.47 μg/g dw). In addition, content of the barely detectable glycitein was confirmed and determined to be 59.84 μg/g. Soybeans with high aglycone isoflavones are expected to exhibit higher absorption of functional components in the human body, and impart physiological activity than other soybeans.
Sliding Wear Behavior of Steam Generator Tube Materials in Nuclear Power Plants

<P>Wear damage of steam generator tubes of nuclear power plants can cause leakage of radioactive substances. So the evaluation of tubes’ integrity is very important from the viewpoint of nuclear ecocide. In the present study, sliding wear behaviors of Inconel 600 and 690 steam generator tube materials mated with 409 stainless steel commonly used as the support plate were investigated at room temperature in an air environment. For more precise prediction of wear behaviors of steam generator tubes, Archard equation was modified, and the modified wear coefficients were estimated as a function of sliding distance. When using the modified Archard equation, the reliabilities for prediction of wear behavior of Inconel 600 and 690 mated with 409 stainless steel increased from 71.8% to 83.8% and from 60.2% to 85.2%, respectively.</P>
