        Case Reports : Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia in an Infant with Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease

        An 11-month-old male infant was admitted to our hospital with fever, fussiness, poor feeding, vomiting, and tachypnea for two days prior. Physical examination revealed sporadic papules and vesicles occurring on his hands, feet, face, and perianal mucosa. Enterovirus 71 was identified from both throat swab and vesicle fluid using virus isolation techniques. The patient`s heart rate fluctuated in a very narrow range from 180~210/beats/min regardless of his physiologic state. An electrocardiogram showed P-waves buried within or occurring just after regular, narrow, QRS complexes. The patient was diagnosed as having hand, foot, and mouth disease in combination with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT). The child recovered well with symptomatic treatment, including intravenous administration of acyclovir, glucocorticoids, immunoglobulin, adenosine, and sotalol. PSVT was terminated within 36 hours of hospitalization. The skin lesions became crusted on the third day, and then proceeded to heal spontaneously.         The Bioactive Effects of Chicoric Acid As a Functional Food Ingredient

        Chicoric acid, a hydroxycinnamic acid, has been reported to possess a variety of health benefits, including antivirus, antioxidant, anti-inflammation, obesity prevention, and neuroprotection effects. The purpose of this article is to summarize current knowledge of pharmacological and biological effects of chicoric acid. Since most studies to date on chicoric acid have limited their focus to cell cultures and animals, more human and mechanistic studies are therefore needed to further determine the beneficial effects of chicoric acid as a potential functional food ingredient.

      • siRNA-mediated Silencing of Notch-1 Enhances Docetaxel Induced Mitotic Arrest and Apoptosis in PCa Cells

        Purpose: Notch is an important signaling pathway that regulates cell fate, stem cell maintenance and the initiation of differentiation in many tissues. It has been reported that activation of Notch-1 contributes to tumorigenesis. However, whether Notch signaling might have a role in chemoresistance of prostate cancer is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of Notch-1 silencing on the sensitivity of prostate cancer cells to docetaxel treatment. Methods: siRNA against Notch-1 was transfected into PC-3 prostate cancer cells. Proliferation, apoptosis and cell cycle distribution were examined in the presence or absence of docetaxel by MTT and flow cytometry. Expression of $p21^{waf1/cip1}$ and Akt as well as activation of Akt in PC-3 cells were detected by Western blot and Real-time PCR. Results: Silencing of Notch-1 promoted docetaxel induced cell growth inhibition, apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in PC-3 cells. In addition, these effects were associated with increased $p21^{waf1/cip1}$ expression and decreased Akt expression and activation in PC-3 cells. Conclusion: Notch-1 promotes chemoresistance of prostate cancer and could be a potential therapeutic target.

        An Analytical Solution for Analyzing the Sealing-efficiency of Compressed Air Energy Storage Caverns

        Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) is a commercial, utility-scale technology that is suitable for providing long-duration energy storage. Underground air storage caverns are an important part of CAES. In this paper, an analytical solution for calculating air leakage and energy loss within underground caverns were proposed. Using the proposed solution, the air leakage and energy loss under a typical CAES operation pressure were analyzed, and the influences of the permeability of the concrete lining and the lining thickness on the sealing efficiency of underground caverns were investigated. The results showed that under a typical CAES operation pressure, a concrete lining with a permeability of less than 6.36 × 10−18 m2 would result in an acceptable air leakage rate of less than 1%. Air leakage will increase linearly with increasing lining permeability. Increasing the thickness of the concrete lining could enhance the sealing efficiency of the storage cavern.

        In the process of research and development of tube bending forming technology, the way of improving the forming quality and establishing the optimization of forming process parameters has become an important problem that should be solved quickly. This text simulated the process of bend forming with the way of finite element, combined with the effects of geometric and physical parameters on the forming quality of bending pipe, taking the important parameters which are measurements of the pipe wall thickness variation as test indexes, made the virtual orthogonal experiment and gained the laws of the bending angle, relative bending radius, relative wall thickness, thrust, pipe friction coefficient between mode have effects on the forming quality of wall thinning rate and wall thickening. Through the comprehensive analysis and additional test, obtained the optimal parameters values, improved the accuracy of simulation and the optimization results of orthogonal test, improved the quality of tube bending forming.

        Analysis and Optimization of Bidirectional Exponential SC Power Conversion Circuits

        A bidirectional exponential-gain switched-capacitor (SC) DC-DC converter is developed in this paper. When compared with existing exponential SC converters, the number of switches is significantly reduced and its structure is simplified. The voltage transfer features, voltage ripple across capacitors, efficiency and output impedance of the proposed converter are analyzed in detail. Optimization of the output impedance is also discussed and the best type of capacitance distribution is determined. A common function of the voltage gain to the output impedance is found among the proposed converter and other popular SC voltage multipliers. Experimental evaluation is carried out with a 6-24V bidirectional prototype converter.

        A Field Theory Based Model for Identifying the Effect of Organizational Structure on the Formation of Organizational Culture in Construction Projects

        A carefully selected organizational structure paves the way for the success of a construction project by fostering a strong and enduring organizational culture. However, very little research has been conducted regarding the effect of organizational structure on the formation of organizational culture. This research employs the field theory to demonstrate organizational culture development and thereafter proposes a novel model for identifying the effect of organizational structure on the formation of organizational culture in a construction project. An empirical analysis based on the Chinese construction industry is performed to verify the proposed model. The primary contribution of this research is twofold. First, it presents a new perspective of examining organizational culture development from organizational structure by using the cultural field theory. Second, it reveals the important effect of organizational structure on the formation of organizational culture and offers project owners a new approach for identifying the effect which could also be a reference for further selecting an appropriate organizational structure.

        De novo malignancy after liver transplantation

        Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence of de novo malignancy after liver transplantation (LT) and compare with those among the general Chinese population. Methods: A total of 466 patients who had a minimum follow-up time of 6 months were enrolled in the study. All data of medical records and follow up were retrospectively reviewed. Results: The incidence rate of de novo malignancy was 3.0% (14 in 466 patients). The median elapsed time from transplant to the diagnosis of de novo malignancy was 42 months (range, 6 to 106 months). The cumulative risk for development of de novo malignancy was 1.6%, 2.7%, and 8.2% at 3, 5 and 10 years after LT, respectively. The patients were all male. The types of de novo tumors included digestive system tumor (8 in 14), lung cancer (2 in 14), urologic neoplasm (2 in 14), and hematologic malignant tumor (2 in 14). Over a mean follow-up of 24 months after diagnosis of de novo malignancy, 7 patients (50.0%) died; the overall 5-year patient survival rate was 54.5%. The relative risk of malignancy following LT was 9.5 folds higher than the general Chinese population. Conclusion: The relative risk of malignancy following LT was much higher than the general Chinese population. Digestive system tumor is the most common type of de novo malignancy after LT in China.

        Experimental Observations of Boiling and Flow Evolution in a Coiled Tube

        A sequence of visually experimental observations was conducted to investigate the flow boiling and two-phase flow in a coiled tube. Different boiling modes and bubble dynamical evolutions were identified for better recognizing the phenomena and understanding the two-phase flow evolution and heat transfer mechanisms. The dissolved gases and remained vapor would serve as foreign nucleation sites, and together with the effect of buoyancy, centrifugal force and liquid flow, these also induce very different flow boiling nucleation, boiling modes, bubble dynamical behavior, and further the boiling heat transfer performance. Bubbly flow, plug flow, slug flow, stratified/wavy flow and annular flow were observed during the boiling process in the coiled tube. Particularly the effects of flow reconstructing and thermal non-equilibrium release in the bends were noted and discussed with the physical understanding. Coupled with the effects of the buoyancy, centrifugal force and inertia or momentum ratio of the two fluids, the flow reconstructing and thermal non-equilibrium release effects have critical importance for flow pattern in the bends and flow evolution in next straight sections.

        Synthesis of intermediate for lamellarin H

        Fabrication processing of a intermediate, 2,4,5-trimethoxy-a-chlor-acetophenone, was reported in details in this paper. The inter-mediate is the key substance for synthesis of lamellarin H and its derivatives by a simple synthesis route proposed recently. Lam-ellarin H has been shown to have antitumour activity (in particular, against human lung cancer) and anti-HIV properties. Theformed intermediate was identied by means of IR spectrum, HPLC, UV spectrum, H NMR and melting point measurement..
