Conceptual Studies on Hypersonic Experimental Vehicles Using Optimal Design Method
Yasufumi Watanabe,Takeshi Tsuchiya,Hideyuki Taguchi,Syuziro Sawai 한국항공우주학회 2008 한국항공우주학회 학술발표회 논문집 Vol.- No.-
This paper describes conceptual studies on hypersonic experimental vehicles. In this research, we focus on studying the experimental system that provides flight test environment for Pre-Cooled Turbo Jet. The acquirements of engine operational data in flight need large Mach number and dynamic pressure. In order to find an optimal solution for the launch methods of the experimental vehicles, we analyzed two cases. Optimization calculations about the trajectory are carried out with the objective function maximizing the flight time at a speed of more than Mach 4, and bring the dynamic pressure close to 50kPa.The results obtained for the different launch methods are compared.
Mini Review : A non-replicating oncolytic vector as a novel therapeutic tool against cancer
( Yasufumi Kaneda ) 생화학분자생물학회 (구 한국생화학분자생물학회) 2010 BMB Reports Vol.43 No.12
Cancers are still difficult targets despite recent advances in cancer therapy. Due to the heterogeneity of cancer, a single-treatment modality is insufficient for the complete elimination of cancer cells. Therapeutic strategies from various aspects are needed. Gene therapy has been expected to bring a breakthrough to cancer therapy, but it has not yet been successful. Gene therapy also should be combined with other treatments to enhance multiple therapeutic pathways. In this view, gene delivery vector itself should be equipped with intrinsic anti-cancer activities. HVJ (hemagglutinating virus of Japan; Sendai virus) envelope vector (HVJ-E) was developed to deliver therapeutic molecules. HVJ-E itself possessed anti-tumor activities such as the generation of anti-tumor immunities and the induction of cancer-selective apoptosis. In addition to the intrinsic anti-tumor activities, therapeutic molecules incorporated into HVJ-E enabled to achieve multi-modal therapeutic strategies in cancer treatment. Tumor-targeting HVJ-E was also developed. Thus, HVJ-E will be a novel promising tool for cancer treatment. [BMB reports 2010; 43(12): 773-780]
Development of Supply System of Microbubble Ozonated Water in Agriculture
Yasufumi Fukumoto,Kazuto Hashizume,Yasuyo Nishimura 한국원예학회 2010 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.51 No.1
The demand for safe vegetables and fruits that do not rely on agricultural chemicals is growing. As a result, ozone has attracted attention as a new sterilization method in agriculture, but there are problems in utilizing ozone gas from the point of view of safety. Although ozone in its liquid state (in which it is dissolved in water) would be of a more practical use, ozone gas is hard to dissolve in water. This study was performed to determine the effectiveness of microbubble ozonated water. Microbubbles help to achieve a high dissolution rate for gaseous ozone in water. The time taken to achieve a certain concentration of ozone dissolved in water was reduced by half and was maintained for as much as three times longer compared with conventional aeration technology. No damage occurred to crop stems and leaves when sprayed with the microbubble ozonated water; however, if part of the culture solution was infested by a pest in the circulating soilless culture, it could cause the death of all plants. A bacterial withering disease of the tomato was completely controlled by a 5 ppm concentration of ozone in microbubbling water. Growth inhibition was not observed even though the root of the tomato was submerged in a high concentration of ozone (18 ppm) in water. Growth of Brassica rapa L. in a circulating soilless culture (NFT system) was promoted by using microbubble ozonated water. The growth and yield of strawberries was also promoted by spraying the stems and leaves with microbubble ozonated water. In addition, the injection of ozonated water into soil controlled the generation of weeds. Furthermore, the effectiveness of this application increased as the frequency of processing increased. These results indicate that it is possible to achieve safe agriculture and environmental conservation, without depending on agricultural chemicals, by using microbubble ozonated water.

Black tea is a popular beverage worldwide. Theaflavins (TFs), which are active functional components of black tea, are potentially valuable for preventing and/or treating the progression of periodontal diseases. Our previous pilot study showed that TF intake decreases the number of Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) bacteria in the saliva. In this study, we aimed to determine whether TF intake improves periodontal disease attributed to oral bacteria in a randomized, placebo-controlled, and double-blind study. A total of 56 healthy subjects without periodontal diseases were enrolled and assigned to the placebo and TF groups (n = 28). TF intake for 6 weeks did not significantly alter the clinical evaluation of subjects. There was no significant adverse effect among the subjects. The number of P. gingivalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum (F. nucleatum) bacteria, which was the primary endpoint in this study, was not impacted by TF intake. The change ratio of Prevotella intermedia was significantly decreased by TF intake (P = .043) when compared with the placebo group. Collectively, our findings suggest that TFs have beneficial effects on oral bacteria for the prevention of periodontal disease. The study protocol was registered in the University Hospital Medical Information Network (UMIN000020049).
