Using Mobile Data Collectors to Enhance Energy Efficiency a nd Reliability in Delay Tolerant Wireless Sensor Networks

Yasmine-Derdour, Yasmine-Derdour,Bouabdellah-Kechar, Bouabdellah-Kechar,Faycal-Khelfi, Mohammed Korea Information Processing Society 2016 Journal of information processing systems Vol.12 No.2

A primary task in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is data collection. The main objective of this task is to collect sensor readings from sensor fields at predetermined sinks using routing protocols without conducting network processing at intermediate nodes, which have been proved as being inefficient in many research studies using a static sink. The major drawback is that sensor nodes near a data sink are prone to dissipate more energy power than those far away due to their role as relay nodes. Recently, novel WSN architectures based on mobile sinks and mobile relay nodes, which are able to move inside the region of a deployed WSN, which has been developed in most research works related to mobile WSN mainly exploit mobility to reduce and balance energy consumption to enhance communication reliability among sensor nodes. Our main purpose in this paper is to propose a solution to the problem of deploying mobile data collectors for alleviating the high traffic load and resulting bottleneck in a sink's vicinity, which are caused by static approaches. For this reason, several WSNs based on mobile elements have been proposed. We studied two key issues in WSN mobility: the impact of the mobile element (sink or relay nodes) and the impact of the mobility model on WSN based on its performance expressed in terms of energy efficiency and reliability. We conducted an extensive set of simulation experiments. The results obtained reveal that the collection approach based on relay nodes and the mobility model based on stochastic perform better.

      • Nitrogen-Doped Graphene Supported Cobalt Oxide Nanocomposite as High Performance Electrocatalyst for Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Yasmin, Sabina,Ahmed, Mohammad Shamsuddin,Jeon, Seungwon American Scientific Publishers 2017 Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Vol.17 No.6

<P>Nitrogen doped reduced graphene oxide-supported cobalt oxide catalyst has been synthesized by a simple one step chemical reduction method (denoted as NrGO-Co3O4) for electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). This material has been characterized by various instrumental methods. The morphological analysis shows the Co3O4 nanocomposites are well set on to the reduced graphene oxide with better dispersion. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) shows electrochemical reduction has been done successfully with the increasing C/O ratio. Also, the Raman data reveals that the Co is presents with the oxidized form. The electrocatalytic activities have been verified using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and hydrodynamic voltammetry techniques in 0.1 M KOH electrolyte. The as prepared catalyst has shown more positively shifted onset and half wave potential (-0.091 V and -0.276 vs. Ag/AgCl) and high cathodic current density 2.57 mA cm(-2) and high methanol, ethanol crossover tolerance than Pt/C. It is the introduction of strongly bonded cobalt nanocomposite into the network of NrGO that modulate the electronic properties of the NrGO-Co3O4, resulting in the superb electrocatalytic performance. The reaction kinetics have confirmed that the ORR at NrGO-Co3O4 catalyst follows a four electron transfer reaction process.</P>

Lexical Incongruity in Translations of American Political Speeches into Arabic: Between Presidents Bush and Obama

Yasmin H. Hannouna 세종대학교 언어연구소 2010 Journal of Universal Language Vol.11 No.2

This paper endeavors to investigate the extent to which it is possible to handle the translation of emotive political lexical items which have only partial or no equivalents in the target language in terms of componential analysis as a procedure of translation (Newmark 1981: 20; 1988: 115). Two professional translators participate in translating the sample texts extracted from some political speeches delivered by the American Presidents George Bush and Barack Obama for the highly emotive expressions they contain. The procedure of the study is entirely based on the analysis and comparison of two suggested translations of each sample text. The results show that Arabic political items are charged with high emotive meanings. Further, a translator should be culturally and linguistically competent in languages to produce effective and adequate translations.

      • Optimization and stabilization of gold nanoparticles by using herbal plant extract with microwave heating

        Yasmin Akbar,Ramesh Kumaraswamy,Rajeshkumar Shanmugam 나노기술연구협의회 2014 Nano Convergence Vol.1 No.12

In this study, we have synthesized the gold nanoparticles by using Hibiscus rosa-sinensis , a medicinal plant. The gold nanoparticles were synthesized rapidly by the involvement of microwave heating. By changing of plant extract concentration, gold solution concentration, microwave heating time and power of microwave heating the optimized condition was identified. The surface Plasmon resonance found at 520 nm confirmed the gold nanoparticles synthesis. The spherical sized nanoparticles in the size range of 16–30 nm were confirmed by Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). The stability of the nanoparticles is very well proved in the invitro stability tests. The biochemical like alkaloids and flavonoids play a vital role in the nanoparticles synthesis was identified using the Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Combining the phytochemical and microwave heating, the rapid synthesis of gold nanoparticles is the novel process for the medically applicable gold nanoparticles production.

      • A noble silver nanoflower on nitrogen doped carbon nanotube for enhanced oxygen reduction reaction

Yasmin, Sabina,Shamsuddin Ahmed, Mohammad,Jeon, Seungwon Elsevier 2017 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF HYDROGEN ENERGY - Vol.42 No.2

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>An electrodeposition-approach for the synthesis of silver nanoflowers (AgNFs) on nitrogen doped carbon nanotubes (NCNTs) for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in alkaline media has been developed. The as prepared material (NCNTs-AgNFs) has been characterized by various instrumental methods. The morphological analysis shows the unique rose-like AgNFs are placed onto the NCNTs with better dispersion. The higher population of AgNFs has also been observed onto NCNTs coated glassy carbon (GC) rather than bare GC plate. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy shows chemical reduction and N-doping has done successfully with the restoring sp2 domain in carbon network. The electrocatalytic activities have been verified using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and hydrodynamic voltammetry techniques in 0.1 M KOH electrolyte. The resulting catalyst system, NCNT-AgNFs, surpasses the performance of Pt/C, in terms of a kinetic current density, better fuel selectivity and durability. It is also noteworthy that the NCNT-AgNFs exhibits a four-electron reduction pathway for ORR with lowering H2O2 yield. The admirable performance of NCNT-AgNFs catalyst along with higher durability holds great potential for application in various fuel cells as cathode catalyst.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Nonprecious metal silver has been used as cathode catalyst instead of Pt in fuel cell. </LI> <LI> Rose like silver nanoflowers have been synthesized on nitrogen doped CNT. </LI> <LI> Around four electron-transfer and less H2O2 can be obtained by using this catalyst. </LI> <LI> This catalyst shows better anodic fuel tolerance. </LI> <LI> Long term stable than the commercial Pt/C. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Risk factors associated with bacteriological cure, new infection, and incidence of clinical mastitis after dry cow therapy with three different antibiotics

        Yasmin Gundelach,Elke Kalscheuer,Henning Hamann,Martina Hoedemaker 대한수의학회 2011 JOURNAL OF VETERINARY SCIENCE Vol.12 No.3

Factors affecting bacteriological cure rates (BCR) and new intramammary infections (IMI) during the dry period as well as clinical mastitis (CM) during early lactation were investigated in 414 German Holstein dairy cows receiving dry cow therapy. Cows were treated with either benethamine benzylpenicillin (300,000 IU), penethamate hydriodide (100,000 IU), and framycetin sulphate (100 mg, n = 136), or cefquinome (150 mg, n = 135), or benzathine cloxacillin (1,280 mg, n = 143). Overall BCR, IMI, and CM at parturition were 86.4%, 20.7%, and 4.3%, respectively. The three antibiotic treatments differed only in BCR, with cloxacillin yielding better results than the others. Udder quarters from cows with > 4 lactations had a higher risk of IMI and CM at calving. Chronic changes in udder tissues were linked to a lower BCR and were associated with a higher risk of CM during early lactation. The risk of CM at calving was higher in udder quarters with unspecific or subclinical mastitis before drying off. In conclusion, with antibiotic dry cow therapy, age and health status of the udder appear to be major determinants of IMI and CM during the dry period and early lactation, while BCR was associated with the antibiotic type and udder tissue status.

Content Based Image Retrieval Using Combined Features of Shape, Color and Relevance Feedback

( Yasmin Mussarat ),( Sharif Muhammad ),( Mohsin Sajjad ),( Irum Isma ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2013 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.7 No.12

Content based image retrieval is increasingly gaining popularity among image repository systems as images are a big source of digital communication and information sharing. Identification of image content is done through feature extraction which is the key operation for a successful content based image retrieval system. In this paper content based image retrieval system has been developed by adopting a strategy of combining multiple features of shape, color and relevance feedback. Shape is served as a primary operation to identify images whereas color and relevance feedback have been used as supporting features to make the system more efficient and accurate. Shape features are estimated through second derivative, least square polynomial and shapes coding methods. Color is estimated through max-min mean of neighborhood intensities. A new technique has been introduced for relevance feedback without bothering the user.

How Do Technical Barriers to Trade Affect Exports? Evidence from Egyptian Firm-Level Data

Yasmine Kamal,Chahir Zaki 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 2018 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.33 No.4

The paper examines the impact of Technical Barriers to Trade on firms’ exports in Egypt over the period 2005~2011. Firm-level data for Egypt are combined with the WTO’s TBT-specific trade concerns database. Employing a variant of a gravity model with highdimensional fixed effects, the impact of Technical Barriers to Trade on firms’ intensive and extensive margins, and exit and entry probabilities is estimated, as well as impacts on product and market diversification. Regressions examine the heterogeneous effect of Technical Barriers to Trade by firm size. Results indicate an insignificant effect of Technical Barriers to Trade on firms’ intensive margin. On the other hand, the extensive margin and entry probability are negatively affected by Technical Barriers to Trade, whereas exit probability is positively affected. Accordingly, Technical Barriers to Trade mainly induce an increase in the fixed costs of exporting. Importantly, smaller firms are more adversely affected by Technical Barriers to Trade in their export participation and entry and exit decisions. The effect of Technical Barriers to Trade on firms’ product diversification is found to be sector-dependent:positive for agricultural sectors and mixed for non-agricultural ones. Finally, firms generally tend to increase their market diversification in response to Technical Barriers to Trade. This is especially true for large firms within their set of African and Asian destination markets. By contrast, there are lower prospects of firm diversification into less stringent destinations within the European region.
