        Single Image Dehazing Using Dark Channel Prior and Minimal Atmospheric Veil

        Haze or fog is a common natural phenomenon. In foggy weather, the captured pictures are difficult to be applied to computer vision system, such as road traffic detection, target tracking, etc. Therefore, the image dehazing technique has become a hotspot in the field of image processing. This paper presents an overview of the existing achievements on the image dehazing technique. The intent of this paper is not to review all the relevant works that have appeared in the literature, but rather to focus on two main works, that is, image dehazing scheme based on atmospheric veil and image dehazing scheme based on dark channel prior. After the overview and a comparative study, we propose an improved image dehazing method, which is based on two image dehazing schemes mentioned above. Our image dehazing method can obtain the fog-free images by proposing a more desirable atmospheric veil and estimating atmospheric light more accurately. In addition, we adjust the transmission of the sky regions and conduct tone mapping for the obtained images. Compared with other state of the art algorithms, experiment results show that images recovered by our algorithm are clearer and more natural, especially at distant scene and places where scene depth jumps abruptly.

        Characterization of Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Mg–8Li–3Al–1Y Alloy Subjected to Different Rolling Processes

        The mechanical properties and microstructure evolution of Mg–8Li–3Al–1Y alloy undergoing different rolling processeswere systematically investigated. X-ray diffraction, optical microscope, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electronmicroscopy as well as electron backscattered diffraction were used for tracking the microstructure evolution. Tensile testingwas employed to characterize the mechanical properties. After hot rolling, the MgLi2Alprecipitated in β-Li matrix due to thetransformation reaction: β-Li → β-Li + MgLi2Al + α-Mg. As for the alloy subjected to annealed hot rolling, β-Li phase wasclearly recrystallized while recrystallization rarely occurred in α-Mg phase. With regard to the microstructure undergoing coldrolling, plenty of dislocations and dislocation walls were easily observed. In addition, the microstructure of alloys subjectedto annealed cold rolling revealed the formation of new fresh α-Mg grains in β-Li phase due to the precipitation reaction. Themechanical properties and fracture modes of Mg–8Li–3Al–1Y alloys can be effectively tuned by different rolling processes.

      • Image Compression Based on Discrete Cosine Transform and Multistage Vector Quantization

        In this paper, an image compression scheme is proposed, based on discrete cosine transform (DCT). This scheme is a hybrid method, which combines vector quantization (VQ) and differential pulse code modulation (DPCM). This scheme begins with transforming image from spatial domain to frequency domain using DCT. Then the block data is transformed into a vector according to zigzag order, and then truncated. After that, the vector is split into DC coefficient and AC coefficients. After scale quantization, DC coefficient is coded using DPCM. AC coefficients are coded using multistage vector quantization (MSVQ). Then, entropy encoding is performed on index-tables and DC part, separately. The experimental results show that, compared to conventional VQ and DCT-VQ schemes, proposed scheme has a better performance.

        Effect of Asymmetric Rolling on the Microstructure, Mechanical Properties and Texture Evolution of Mg–8Li–3Al–1Y Alloy

        Asymmetric rolling was applied to dual phase Mg–8Li–3Al–1Y alloy with different speed ratio and rolling reduction. Withincreasing reduction at the same speed ratio the population of β-Li grains decreased with a feature of fibered grains alongthe rolling direction. As for different speed ratio under the same reduction, β-Li grains kept equiaxed, but α-Mg phase wasfirst elongated and fibered and then transited to equiaxed small grains. The enhanced yield strength and tensile strengthwere achieved with the increase of rolling reduction and speed ratio. In particular, when speed ratio reached to 1:1.3 underthe same rolling reduction (30%), the optimal mechanical properties were obtained. As for texture evolution, we found thebasal texture was obviously weakened and some new weak texture was formed after asymmetric rolling. Interestingly, it wasnoted that the texture on the side of slow roll is distinct from that on the side of the fast roll due to the different rolling speed.

        Cross-border higher education in China in the globalized world: The perspective of the World Trade Organization’s general agreement on trade in services

        Chinese higher education has experienced dramatic development since the reform and opening-up in 1978 and especially the great expansion in 1999. The entry to WTO brings a fresh dynamic and opportunity to Chinese higher education. Under the new impetus, the pressing demands of cross-border higher education in China are mainly to expand access, raise funds, improve the quality of human resources and exert national soft power. On joining the WTO, China made efforts to integrate itself into the international community though the development and improvement of legislation, policies, and regulations in higher education that have achieved positive outcomes. However, some current challenges and barriers, including capacity building, administration and management, quality assurance, and qualification recognition still block the further development and need to be removed. The promotion of cross-border higher education in the future not only requires more strategic planning and policy support from central and local governments and higher education institutions, but also depends on a series of institutional transitions and deep reforms to meet the challenges and grasp the opportunities brought by WTO/GATS

        Factors influencing entrepreneurial intentions of Chinese secondary school students: an empirical study

        The ideal stage to learn about and foster positive attitudes toward entrepreneurship is believed to be during childhood and adolescence. However, most entrepreneurial studies examine college rather than secondary school students (SSS). Based on a modified theory of planned behavior (TPB), this study used stratified cluster sampling and a questionnaire to review current entrepreneurship education in secondary schools. In addition, the effects of entrepreneurship education, personal traits, and demographics on attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control (PBC), and entrepreneurial intentions (EI) on 1018 SSS in China were studied. Differences, correlations, and structural equation modeling analysis indicated the following. (1) Most SSS had never received entrepreneurship education, likely resulting in lowered entrepreneurial intention and perception of entrepreneurial behavioral performance as unrealistically easy. (2) Cognitive bias existed in SSS’s perceptions of entrepreneurship, and entrepreneurial behaviors were regarded as external cause-oriented activities. (3) Gender and entrepreneurial experience of family member also influenced EI and related variables. (4) Entrepreneurship education and personal traits (locus of control and innovativeness) were significantly positive predictors of EI, and (5) their effects on EI were completely mediated by PBC. The findings supported the TPB predictions, and the results offered some implications for entrepreneurship education in Chinese secondary schools: (1) developing entrepreneurial personal traits while eliminating examination-oriented education, (2) enhancing SSS’s entrepreneurial confidence so entrepreneurial behaviors are perceived as easier and more achievable, and (3) constructing systematic entrepreneurship courses to guarantee transition from secondary to higher education.

        Unsupervised Single Moving Object Detection Based on Coarse-to-Fine Segmentation

        An efficient and effective unsupervised single moving object detection framework is presented in this paper. Given the sparsely labelled trajectory points, we adopt a coarse-to-fine strategy to detect and segment the foreground from the background. The superpixel level coarse segmentation reduces the complexity of subsequent processing, and the pixel level refinement improves the segmentation accuracy. A distance measurement is devised in the coarse segmentation stage to measure the similarities between generated superpixels, which can then be used for clustering. Moreover, a Quadmap is introduced to facilitate the refinement in the fine segmentation stage. According to the experiments, our algorithm is effective and efficient, and favorable results can be achieved compared with state-of-the-art methods.

        Size Aware Correlation Filter Tracking with Adaptive Aspect Ratio Estimation

        Correlation Filter-based Trackers (CFTs) gained popularity recently for their effectiveness and efficiency. To deal with the size changes of the target which may degenerate the tracking performance, scale estimation has been introduced in existing CFTs. However, the variations of the aspect ratio were usually neglected, which also influence the size of the target. In this paper, Size Aware Correlation Filter Trackers (SACFTs) are proposed to deal with this problem. The SACFTs not only determine the translation and scale variations, but also take the aspect ratio changes into consideration, thus a better estimation of the size of the target can be realized, which improves the overall tracking performance. And competing results can be achieved compared with state-of-the-art methods according to the experiments conducted on two large scale datasets.

        Study on Legato in Vocal Music Performance

        본 연구는 성악 발성에서 나타나는 레가토(legato) 기법 연구를 통해 레가토에 영향을 미치는 3가지 요소를 분석하고 레가토 발성의 향상을 위한 효과적인 방법을 제시한다. 이를 위해 사례분석법과 귀납대비법을 활용한다. 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 첫째, 성악가의 발성 기술 측면에서, 호흡 문제, 발음 문제, 음역대 문제를 해결한다면 원활하게 레가토에 이를 수 있게 되고, 이를 통해 성악가의 레가토 발성 기술이 향상될 수 있다. 둘째, 성악가의 발성 언어의 측면에서, 성악 언어의 발음과 구조의 특징을 심도있게 분석하여 언어적 차원의 레가토를 이룰 수 있다면, 이를 통해 성악가가 발성 언어를 더욱 깊이 이해할 수 있다. 셋째, 성악가의 발성 감정의 측면에서, 사상과 정서의 두 방면에서 감정과 관련된 문제를 해결하여 레가토에 이를 수 있다면, 이를 통해 작품에 대한 성악가의 이해도가 높아질 수 있다. 종합해보면 레가토는 성악가의 발성 기술, 발성 언어, 발성 감정에 따라 큰 영향을 받는다. 본 연구를 통해 성악가들이 성악 발성에서의 레가토의 중요성을 심도있게 이해하여, 발성 과정에서 레가토를 더욱 효과적으로 활용하기를 기대한다. In order to study the role of legato to singers in vocal music performance, this paper adopts the methods of demonstration and induction and comparison to analyze the three factors affecting the creation of legato in performance and propose solutions. When thinking about the influence of singing skills on legato, singers will be able to solve such issues as breathing, articulation and vocal register, thus improving their singing skills. When thinking about the influence of singing language on legato, singers will make an in-depth study on the phonetic and structural features of the language to reach legato in language, thus promoting the in-depth study of singers on the singing language. When thinking about the influence of singing emotion on legato, singers will solve the problem of emotional coherence from two aspects of thought and emotion to create legato of emotion, thus promoting the expression of singers’ emotion in the work. Obviously, legato plays an important role in improving singers’ singing skills, singing language and singing emotion. The aim of the paper is to encourage singers to further deepen their attention to legato in vocal music performance and make better use of legato in singing.
