The influence of cooling rates on the mechanical properties of a Zr-based bulk metallic glass prepared with high rheologicalrate forming (HRRF) was investigated and compared with traditional suction cast methods. Amorphous samples of Zr57Cu-20Ni8Al10Ag5 were prepared in copper molds with different sizes in order to obtain different cooling rates for both HRRFand traditional cast methods. These specimens were subjected to compression experiments, including microhardness testing,X-ray diffraction testing and differential scanning calorimetry analysis. The results indicate that the plasticity of the samplesformed by HRRF are higher than that of the as-cast ones at the same cooling rates, while the microhardness manifests theopposite principle. As the cooling rate increases further, the difference in plasticity further increases between two methods,indicating that the plasticity of metallic glasses is more sensitive to cooling rates during the HRRF process. At the core ofthis phenomenon is the fact that HRRF methods can introduce more free volume into glasses than traditional cast methodswith an elevated cooling rate are able to.

The lead-free ceramics (Na0.54Bi0.5)0.94Ba0.06Ti1+xO3 with x = −0.02, 0, 0.02, and 0.04 were prepared by a solid-state reaction method. Effects of Ti4+ nonstoichiometry on crystallite structure, microstructure, dielectric, ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties were studied. The ceramics with x = −0.02 and 0 exhibit typical diffraction peaks of perovskite structure. A secondary phase appears in the ceramics with x = 0.02 and 0.04. The rhombohedral-tetragonal morphotropic phase boundary exists in all samples, and the relative amount of the tetragonal phase changes with the increase in the Ti4+ amount from deficiency to excess. Grain sizes and shape of the ceramics are unaffected by changes in Ti4+ nonstoichiometry. But, dielectric, ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties of the ceramics are close related to the Ti4+ amounts. Compared with the ceramic with x = 0, the ceramics with the Ti4+ nonstoichiometry have higher depolarization temperature, lower maximum dielectric constant, decreased piezoelectric constant and ferroelectric properties.
Association Between the Ku70-1310C/G Promoter Polymorphism and Cancer Risk: a Meta-analysis

Ku70 plays an important role in DNA double-strand break repair. Studies revealing conflicting results on the role of the Ku70-1310C/G promoter polymorphism on cancer risk led us to perform a meta-analysis to investigate this relationship. Ten case-control studies with 2566 cases and 3058 controls were identified. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to assess the strength of associations. The overall results suggested no association between the Ku70-1310C/G promoter polymorphism and total cancer risk. However, on stratified analysis, significantly increased risks were observed among the Asian population (GG vs. CC: OR=1.50, 95%CI=1.10-2.06; GG vs. CC/CG: OR=1.47, 95%CI=1.07-2.01) and population-based case-control studies (GG vs. CC: OR=1.57, 95%CI=1.12-2.22; CG vs. CC: OR=1.35, 95%CI=1.11-1.64; CG/GG vs. CC: OR=1.37, 95%CI=1.14-1.65). Additionally, variant genotypes were associated with a significantly increased breast cancer risk (GG vs. CC: OR=1.80, 95%CI=1.26-2.56; GG vs. CC/CG: OR=1.40, 95%CI=1.01-1.95).

본 연구에서는 현재 생식품으로 판매되고 있는 해송이 버섯의 생리활성을 탐색하여 효용가치를 높일 수 있는 기초자료를 얻고자, 해송이 버섯의 일반적인 성분을 조사하고 열수 추출물을 제조하여 항산화 능력을 검토하였다. 그 결과 해송이 버섯은 탄수화물과 조단백질 함량이 높고 조지방 함량이 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 유리아미노산과 구성아미노산은 각각 46.53 ㎎/g, 204.86 ㎎/g으로 나타났고, β-glucan 함량은 0.11±0.01%로 나타났다. 해송이 버섯 열수 추출물의 총페놀함량, DPPH radical 소거능, 환원력 및 SOD 활성은 시료의 추출농도가 증가함에 따라 증가하였으나 추출시간에는 의존하지 않았다. 또한, DPPH radical 소거능은 총페놀 함량과 비슷한 경향(R²=0.9901~0.7424)을 보였는데 이것은 해송이 버섯의 항산화 활성이 페놀 화합물과 관련이 깊은 것으로 사료된다. 추출물농도 1 g/100 ㎖에서 DPPH radical 소거능 88.42~91.94%로 합성항산화제(BHA 96.35%, BHT 95.64%, ascorbic acid 96.97%)와 비슷한 수준의 항산화 활성을 보여 항산화제 소재로서의 가치가 있는 것으로 나타났다. “Hae-Songi” mushroom is a kind of Hypsizigus marmoreus, one of the edible mushrooms. Powder and hot water extracts of the mushroom fruit?body were investigated for their proximate composition, amino acid contents, β-glucan contents, total phenolic contents and antioxidant activity. The measured antioxidant activity included free radical scavenging activity against DPPH<SUP>?</SUP>, reducing power, Fe²? chelating ability and SOD activity. Mushroom extracts exhibited in vitro antioxidant activity. This mushroom contained high protein (29%, total amino acid contents 204.86 ㎎/g), free amino acids (46.53 ㎎/g), and β?glucan (0.11%). At a concentration of 1% extracts solutions (w/v) according to different extraction times, DPPH free radical-scavenging activities were found to exhibit 89%~92% inhibition. Positive correlations (R²=0.9901~0.7424) were found between total phenolic content in the mushroom hot water extracts and their antioxidant activity. In this study, it is demonstrated that “Hae-Songi” mushroom may possess potential for use as a health food, due to theirantioxidant capacity.

A novel esterase gene, est01, was successfully unearthed from a biogas digester microbiota metagenomic library. The 1,194 bp est01 gene encodes a protein of 44,804 Da (designated Est01). The amino acid sequence of Est01 shows only moderate (33%) identity to a lipase/ esterase. Phylogenetic analysis and biochemical characterization confirmed that Est01 is a new member of family VIII esterases. The purified Est01 from recombinant Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) showed high hydrolytic activity against short-chain fatty acid esters, suggesting that it is a typical carboxylesterase rather than a lipase. Furthermore, the Est01 was even active at 10°C (43% activity remained), with the optimal temperature at 20°C, and had a broad pH range from 5.0 to 10.0, with the optimal pH of 8.0. These properties suggest that Est01 is a cold-adaptive esterase and could have good potential for low-temperature hydrolysis application.

In recent years, with continuous research efforts targeted at studying the effects of pre- and after-treatment of inhaled anesthetics, significant progress has been made regarding the common clinical use of low concentrations of inhaled sevoflurane and its effect on induced central ischemia tolerance by pre- and post-treatment. In this study, we collected, analyzed, classified, and summarized recent literature regarding the effect of sevoflurane on central ischemia tolerance and its related mechanisms. In addition, we provide a theoretical basis for the clinical application of sevoflurane to protect the central nervous system and other important organs against ischemic injury.

Cleft palate is one of the most common congenital malformations of the oral and maxillofacial region, with an incidence rate of around 0.1%. Early surgical repair is the only method for treatment of a cleft lip and palate. However, because of the use of inhalation anesthesia in children and the physiological characteristics of the cleft palate itself combined with the particularities of cleft palate surgery, the incidence rate of postoperative emergence agitation (EA) in cleft palate surgery is significantly higher than in other types of interventions. The exact mechanism of EA is still unclear. Although restlessness after general anesthesia in children with cleft palate is self-limiting, its effects should be considered by clinicians. In this paper, the related literature on restlessness after surgery involving general anesthesia in recent years is summarized. This paper focuses on induction factors as well as prevention and treatment of postoperative restlessness in children with cleft palate after general anesthesia. The corresponding countermeasures to guide clinical practice are also presented in this paper.
