        Default Prediction for Real Estate Companies with Imbalanced Dataset

        When analyzing default predictions in real estate companies, the number of non-defaulted cases always greatly exceeds the defaulted ones, which creates the two-class imbalance problem. This lowers the ability of prediction models to distinguish the default sample. In order to avoid this sample selection bias and to improve the prediction model, this paper applies a minority sample generation approach to create new minority samples. The logistic regression, support vector machine (SVM) classification, and neural network (NN) classification use an imbalanced dataset. They were used as benchmarks with a single prediction model that used a balanced dataset corrected by the minority samples generation approach. Instead of using prediction-oriented tests and the overall accuracy, the true positive rate (TPR), the true negative rate (TNR), G-mean, and F-score are used to measure the performance of default prediction models for imbalanced dataset. In this paper, we describe an empirical experiment that used a sampling of 14 default and 315 non-default listed real estate companies in China and report that most results using single prediction models with a balanced dataset generated better results than an imbalanced dataset.

      • Mda-9/syntenin Promotes Human Brain Glioma Migration through Focal Adhesion Kinase (FAK)-JNK and FAK-AKT Signaling

        Invasion is usually recognized as the main reason for the high recurrence and death rates of glioma and restricts the efficacy of surgery and other therapies. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the mechanism involved in promotion effects of mda-9/syntenin on human glioma cell migration. The wound healing method was used to test the migration ability of human glioma cells CHG-5 and CHG-hS, stably overexpressing mda-9/syntenin. Western blotting was performed to determine the expression and phosphorylation of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) and JNK in CHG-5 and CHG-hS cells. The migration ability of CHG-hS cells was significantly higher than that of CHG-5 cells in fibronectin (FN)-coated culture plates. Phosphorylation of FAK on tyrosine 397, 576, and 925 sites was increased with time elapsed in CHG-hS cells. However, phosphorylated FAK on the tyrosine 861 site was not changed. Phosphorylated Src, JNK and Akt levels in CHG-hS cells were also significantly upregulated. Phosphorylation of JNK and Akt were abolished by the specific inhibitors SP600125 and LY294002, respectively, and the migration ability of CHG-hS cells was decreased, indicating that the JNK and PI3K/Akt pathways play important roles in regulating mda-9/syntenin-induced human brain glioma migration. Our results indicate Mda-9/syntenin overexpression could activate FAK-JNK and FAK-Akt signaling and then enhance the migration capacity of human brain glioma cells.

        Cloning and Characterization of Liver cDNAs That Are Differentially Expressed between Chicken Hybrids and Their Parents

        Using mRNA differential display technique, we investigated differential gene expression in hybrids relative to their parents in a diallel cross involving four chicken breeds in order to provide an insight into the molecular basis of heterosis in chicken. The results indicated that there was extensive differential gene expression between chicken F1 hybrids and their parents which was classified into four kinds of patterns as following: (1) bands only detected in hybrid F1; (2) bands only absent in hybrid F1; (3) bands only detected in parent P1 or P2; (4) bands absent in parent P1 or P2. Forty-two differentially expressed cDNAs were cloned and sequenced, and their expression patterns were confirmed by Reverse-Northern dot blot. Sequence analysis and database searches revealed that genes showed differential expression between hybrid and parents were regulatory and functional genes involved in metabolism, mRNA splicing, transcriptional regulation, cell cycles and protein modification. These results indicated that hybridization between two parents can cause changes in expression of a variety of genes. In conclusion, that the altered pattern of gene expression in hybrids may be responsible for heterosis in chickens.

      • 8q24 rs4242382 Polymorphism is a Risk Factor for Prostate Cancer among Multi-Ethnic Populations: Evidence from Clinical Detection in China and a Meta-analysis

        Background: Evidence supporting an association between the 8q24 rs4242382-A polymorphism and prostate cancer (PCa) risk has been reported in North American and Europe populations, though data from Asian populations remain limited. We therefore investigated this association by clinical detection in China, and meta-analysis in Asian, Caucasian and African-American populations. Materials and Methods: Blood samples and clinical information were collected from ethnically Chinese men from Northern China with histologically-confirmed PCa (n=335) and from age-matched normal controls (n=347). The 8q24 (rs4242382) gene polymorphism was genotyped by polymerase chain reaction-high-resolution melting analysis. We initially analyzed the associations between the risk allele and PCa and clinical covariates. A meta-analysis was then performed using genotyping data from a total of 1,793 PCa cases and 1,864 controls from our study and previously published studies in American and European populations, to determine the association between PCa and risk genotype. Results: The incidence of the risk allele was higher in PCa cases than controls (0.222 vs 0.140, $P=7.3{\times}10^{-5}$), suggesting that the 8q24 rs4242382-A polymorphism was associated with PCa risk in Chinese men. The genotypes in subjects were in accordance with a dominant genetic model (ORadj=2.03, 95%CI: 1.42-2.91, $Padj=1.1{\times}10^{-4}$). Presence of the risk allele rs4242382-A at 8q24 was also associated with clinical covariates including age at diagnosis ${\geq}65$ years, prostate specific antigen >10 ng/ml, Gleason score <8, tumor stage and aggressive PCa, compared with the non-risk genotype ($P=4.6{\times}10^{-5}-3.0{\times}10^{-2}$). Meta-analysis confirmed the association between 8q24 rs4242382-A polymorphism and PCa risk (OR=1.62, 95%CI: 1.39-1.88, $P=1.0{\times}10^{-5}$) across Asian, Caucasian and African American populations. Conclusions: The replicated data suggest that the 8q24 rs4242382-A variation might be associated with increased PCa susceptibility in Asian, Caucasian and African American populations. These results imply that this polymorphism may be a useful risk biomarker for PCa in multi-ethnic populations.

        MRI Findings of Primary CNS Lymphoma in 26 Immunocompetent Patients

        Objective: To record the MR imaging features of primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) and compare these features in monofocal and multifocal disease. Materials and Methods: Twenty-one cases of monofocal disease were compared to five cases of multifocal disease. All patients were examined by nonenhanced and contrast-enhanced MRI. Tumor location, tumor size, signal intensity, enhancement characteristics, age distribution, peritumoral edema, cystic changes, and the presence of calcifications were assessed. The MRI features were compared between the monofocal and multifocal disease cases. Results: The 26 cases, including both the monofocal and multifocal cases, exhibited 37 lesions. Contrast-enhanced images showed variable enhancement patterns: homogeneous enhancement (33 lesions), ring-like enhancement (2), and ‘open-ring-like’ enhancement (2). The ‘notch sign’ was noted in four of 33 homogeneously enhancing lesions. One case of hemorrhage and three cases of cystic formation were observed. Intra-tumoral calcification was not found. The frontal lobe, the corpus callosum and the basal ganglia were commonly affected in both the monofocal and multifocal groups. Tumor size differed significantly between the two groups (t = 3.129, p < 0.01) and mildly or moderately enhanced lesions were more frequently found in the monofocal group (p < 0.05). There was no statistical difference between perifocal edema (p > 0.05) and the signal characteristics (p > 0.05) between the two groups. Conclusion: Our data show that PCNSL has a variable enhancement pattern on MR images. We first reported two lesions with an ‘open-ring’ enhancement as well as four cases with a ‘notch sign’. Monofocal PCNSL cases typically have larger sized tumors with mild or moderate enhancement.         With the global climate becoming worse and warmer, the Kyoto Protocol"s signing leads to the birth of CDM, which is one of the three mechanism in the protocol and aims to realize the greenhouse air reduction via the projects cooperation between the developed country and developing country. Although so many successful CDM projects have been finished so far and plentiful experiences have also been accumulated by us, we still encounter many risks during the course of CDM projects implementing which can also bring great potential losses to economy. This article aims to analyze the possible CDM risks from three categories including traditional aspect, process aspect, and market aspect and presents the possible measures to mitigate the risks in order to make us keep sober-minded at the risks.

        Cross-sectional geometry dependence of spontaneous phase transformation of copper nanowires

        Molecular dynamics simulations have been performed to investigate the spontaneous phase transformation of copper nanowires. It is found that the spontaneous phase transformation exhibits distinct dependence on the cross-sectional geometry of the nanowires and can lead to the reconstruction of atoms into different atomistic configurations, e.g., pure hexagonal-close-packed crystals, fivefold deformation twins, and core/shell structures. For single-crystal copper nanowires, the critical crosssectional size, above which no spontaneous phase transformation can occur, is determined. The physical mechanisms underlying the complicated transformation behavior are analyzed from the viewpoints of energy and stresses.

        Hydrothermal Synthesis of Hexagonal MoO3 and Its Reversible Electrochemical Behavior as a Cathode for Li-Ion Batteries

        Hexagonal molybdenum trioxide (h-MoO3) nanoparticles with a particle size of several tens of nanometers were prepared from sodium molybdate (Na2MoO4) using hydrothermal synthesis and ultrasonication. The morphology, structure, composition, and chemical states of the nanoparticles were characterized by x-ray diffraction,field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy. Cyclic voltammetry results showed a strong reduction peak, which indicated a lithium ion insertion/extraction mechanism. The plateau observed in the first discharge curve around 1.8 V was in accordance with the above mechanism,which was also verified by differential capacity measurements. Cycling performance results showed that the capacity retention was up to 90% in the second cycle and that the irreversible capacities decreased with subsequent cycles.
