The Revival of Confucianism in an Age of Globalization
Wu Yun,Daniel A. Bell 숙명여자대학교 아시아여성연구원 2014 OMNES: The Journal of Multicultural Society Vol.5 No.1
Confucianism has been revived in many spheres of social life in mainland China. In this age of globalization, Confucianism has to face several challenges, including global issues that all states have to deal with together such as global justice, global environmental issues, and global peace as well as domestic issues such as economic development and social justice. A framework of “Left- Confucianism” which may cope with these challenges in a more promising way will be proposed in this paper. It tries to combine the core values of the “original Confucianism” with the socialist values that have had a great impact on China’s development over the past century or so. This combination of socialism and Confucianism does not merely take socialism as the standard but also takes Confucianism equally seriously. In this paper, we show how the core values of “Left Confucianism” can help us to think about domestic and global challenges in innovative ways.

The political intermarriage between Korean royal family and the Yuan Dynasty was a special phenomenon in the history of Sino-Korea relationship. Through this special suzerain-vassal state relationship between Korean and the Yuan Dynasty, the Korean Peninsula, which was always influenced by traditional Han culture, now was influenced greatly by Mongolian culture. During the reign of King Chungnyeol(忠烈王), Mongolian customs were very popular in Korea. And with the coming of princesses of Yuan Dynasty and their entourages, the Mongolian language, culture and customs were widely spread to Korea. In addition, King Chungseon(忠宣王) lived in the Yuan Dynasty for a very long time with his entourages, which had a great impact upon the cultural exchange between Korean and the Yuan Dynasty in various aspects, such as poetry, painting, calligraphy, Zhuzi``s Neo Confucianism theory, Buddhist scriptures and so on. In the meantime, under the influence of Korean tribute maids, aristocrats of Yuan Dynasty began to marry the maids from Korea, making the Korean customs, costume and food popular in the capital of Yuan Dynasty. As a result, the cultural exchange between Korea and Yuan Dynasty reached it speak in the 13th and 14th century.

Promoting the “Road and Belt” strategy, integrating the “Grassland Road” with Mongolia and and especially the new situation and new task of “China, Mongolia, Russia Economy Corridor Construction” all require further cooperation and exchange between news media in China and Mongol to fully fulfill the political function of media construct a better international opinion environment for the construction of the Corridor. Presently, the exchange and cooperation between two counties have deepened and compacted increasingly. This paper firstly illustrates the importance of exerting the directing role and political, social function of media and further looks into the cooperative prospect based on the review and description of the current situation in news media between two counties.

Chinese character forms have gone through transformations over long period of evolvement. Except for the conscious reorganization and modification of language, character transformation is mainly carried out by means of erroneous transformation. By erroneous transformation, we mean the unconscious modification of character forms, which can be said as an internal arrangement of the linguistic function of characters. The thesis is intended to demonstrate the process of erroneous transformations as well as reasons ehind it by tracking down the erroneous transformation of some evolved characters in the Buddhist Scriptures of Sound and Meaning Compiled by Kehong.

Culture exchange has been a main part of practical cooperation in all areas between China and Mongolia, playing the vital role of promoting the communications of people between both countries, improving understanding and mutual trust and boosting the amity relationship between two counties. The exchanges and co-operations in multiple channels, levels, forms and contents have been carried out with remarkable effects since diplomatic relations especially strategic partnership between two countries has been set up. Based on a thorough review on the present situation of culture exchanges and co-operations between two countries, three characteristics are inducted in the paper, namely reaching a series of agreements and proving the basis for cooperation; constructing the communication platform and consolidating the cooperation base; expanding the areas of communications and extending the scope of cooperation. It has been further proposed that China and Mongolia could keep on the advancement direction by centering on the connecting The Belt and Road in China and Developing Road Initiative in Mongolia, especially the requirements for the interconnections of China, Mongolia Russia Economic Corridor, and two aspects, including strengthening practical co-operations and creating film and television products, promoting non-government exchange and establishing special fund, could be further strengthened and perfected to integrate the ideas of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness in culture exchange and cooperation.

Eucommia ulmoides is a focus of considerable attention because it is used to produce gutta-percha latex and raw materials for traditional Chinese medicine. The species has also been widely planted for vegetable oil production due to the high content of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) in the seeds. However, little was known about fatty acid biosynthesis in the seeds. Here, we present transcriptome analyses that identified genes related to the fatty acid biosynthesis pathways in the seeds collected 70 and 160 days after flowering (DAF) from two varieties: ‘Huazhong No. 6’ (ALA content of 38.7 %) and ‘Huazhong No. 10’ (ALA content of 67.6 %). De novo assembly generated 96,469 unigenes with an average length of 690 bp. Among them, 11,260 unigenes identified by functional annotation against the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes database were mapped to 117 metabolic pathways. 65 unigenes involved in fatty acid biosynthesis include 5 coding for 3-oxoacyl-ACP reductase, 2 coding for b-hydroxyacyl-ACP dehydratase, 10 coding for b-ketoacyl-ACP synthase II, and 2 coding for enoyl-ACP reductase I. Expression of the nine differentially expressed unigenes coding for major enzymes in fatty acid biosynthesis was validated by real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR (qPCR) using RNA from six seed stages (70, 88, 106, 124, 142, and 160 DAF) in ‘Huazhong No. 10’. The qPCR analysis showed that expression of these 9 unigenes all changed significantly at 88 DAF. This study provides a large-scale transcriptome annotation of E. ulmoides, which is fundamental information for further characterizing gene functionals involved in the process of seed development.
