Characteristics of non-point source (NPS) pollution runoff from a public park in Gwangju, Korea were investigated. Results exhibited the highest pollutant concentrations at the start of the rainfall events due to their build-up and wash off processes. The average event mean concentrations (EMCs) were 27.8, 7.2, 56.3, 7.5, and 0.84 mg/L (range: 4.2-54.8 mg/L) for COD, (0.5-20.8 mg/L) for TOC, (22.3-138.4) for SS, (1.4-18.5 mg/L) for T-N, and (0.17-2.02 mg/L) for T-P, respectively. The study site presented a strong first flush effect for most rainfall events. However, no first flush effect was observed in rainfall events with small rainfall factors (e.g. intensity, amount, and runoff depth). On the other hand, the ratios of total pollution loads discharged by the first 20% of runoff volume were 32% for COD, 34% for TOC, 36% for SS, 42% for T-N, and 50% for T-P. Especially, $MFF_{20}$ (mass first flush) values of T-N and T-P were larger than those of other pollutants (COD, TOC, SS), indicating that T-N and T-P are easily transported by stormwater runoff from the public park. First flush management of T-N and T-P, therefore, is required for efficient water quality management of the public park.

Several considerations on structural safety of connection part in Finger-Type expansion joint system were presented in this paper. Special considerations were focused on the compressive strength of sealant concrete, the stress of anchor bolt through introducing prestressing force and he reasonability on the magnitude of prestressing force. Tow-and three-dimensional finite element analyses using MIDAS have been performed to check the structural safety of the expansion joint system. The analysis results showed that the excessive compressive stress acting on concrete can be dispersed or reduced only when over 40% of maximum tensile stress acting on bolt obtained by hand calculation is added to the prestressing force. And the design compressive strength of sealant concrete over 400 kgf/㎠ is reasonable, but more attention should be paid to quality control and construction management even though he design value of 500 kgf/㎠ in original design can improve a structural safety.

증자시 높은 점성이 문제되는 쌀보리를 기질로 알콜발효를 행할 경우, 기질의 점성문제를 해결하여 발효조건을 개선하면서 생산수율을 올릴 수 있는 상업용 액화효소를 검토하였다. 쌀보리 증자액화시 BAN을 사용한 경우 기절의 점도는 T120L의 1/3 정도로 떨어졌으며 최종 알콜수율도 T120L에 비해 원료 Ton 당 4 ℓ 정도 더 높게 나왔다. 알콜의 수율은 사용한 당화효소의 종류에 의해서도 영향을 받았다. 산업 규모에서 BAN을 사용한 쌀보리의저온증자가 가능하였으며 고온증자에 비해 알콜수율도 388.4에서 390.4 ℓ/Ton으로 약간 증가하였다. 또 이때 사용한 기질의 전분가를 분석하였는데, 산가수분해 및 효소가수분해법에 의한 쌀의 전분가 분석치는 큰 차이를 보이지 않았으나 쌀 보리의 경우는 효소가수분해법에 의한 값이 산가수분해법에 비해 10% 정도 낮게 나타났다. 이때 BAN은 T120L에 비해 전분가가 약 1% 높게 나왔다. Various treatments of naked barley with commercial liquefying enzymes have been employed to reduce high viscosity of naked barley in cooking as a raw material for alcohol production and to increase alcohol yield. The enzyme BAN used for cooking and liquefaction of naked barley was able to make a reduction of one third of viscosity and to enhance alcohol yield of 4 l/Ton of raw material than the T120L was. Of course, alcohol yield depended in part on the applied saccharifying enzymes. The low temperature cooking of naked barley with BAN was favorable compared with high temperature cooking of both of reducing viscosity (210 vs. 237 cp) and final alcohol yield (Yp/so; 0.397 vs. 0.395 g/g) in industrial scale.

<P><B>Purpose</B></P><P>This study sought to determine the 1-year clinical effectiveness and safety of a biodegradable, polymer-containing Biolimus A9™-eluting stent (BES) in Korean patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS).</P><P><B>Materials and Methods</B></P><P>A total of 1000 ACS patients with 1251 lesions who underwent implantation of BESs at 22 centers in Korea were enrolled between May 2011 and July 2013. We assessed major adverse cardiac events (MACE) defined as the composite of cardiac death, non-fatal myocardial infarction (MI), and clinical-driven target vessel revascularization at 12 months.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Patient mean age was 62.6±11.4 years. 72.8% of the patients were male, 28.5% had diabetes, 32.8% had multi-vessel disease (MVD), and 47.9% presented with acute MI (AMI). The mean global registry of acute coronary events risk score of all patients was 103.0±27.6. The number of stents per patient was 1.3±0.6. The incidences of MACE and definite stent thrombosis at 12 months were 3.9% and 0.2%, respectively. On multivariate Cox-regression analysis, age ≥65 years was identified as an independent predictors of 1-year MACE (hazard ratio=2.474; 95% confidence interval=1.202−5.091). Subgroup analyses revealed no significant differences in the incidence of MACE between patients with and without diabetes (4.3% vs. 3.7%, <I>p</I>=0.667), between those who presented with and without AMI (4.4% vs. 3.4%, <I>p</I>=0.403), and between those with and without MVD (4.6% vs. 3.5%, <I>p</I>=0.387).</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>Our study demonstrated excellent 1-year clinical outcomes of BES implantation in patients at low-risk for ACS.</P>

<P>We report the direct formation of ordered memristor nanostructureson metal and graphene electrodes by a block copolymer self-assemblyprocess. Optimized surface functionalization provides stacking structuresof Si-containing block copolymer thin films to generate uniform memristordevice structures. Nonpoint source pollution characteristics of recreation park was investigated. Runoff ratio of recreation park ranged 23-57%, which was lower than other urban area since impervious area was less than 37%. The average BOD, COD, TOC, SS, T-N, T-P, were 14.09, 32.86, 12.19, 121.51, 7.78 and 0.72 mg/L, respectively. First flush of recreation park was analyzed by normalized cumulative load - volume curve and mass first flush ratio(MFFn), MFF10 for BOD, COD, SS, T-P, T-N, TOC were 2.90, 1.59, 2.15, 2.74, 2.60, and 1.59, respectively. Observed data showed that 62% of pollutant could be removed by storaging 5 mm rainfall-runoff and even 3 mm depth could store up to 50% of pollutant in runoff.

Deep-Nanoscale Pattern Engineering by Immersion-Induced Self-Assembly

<P>The directed self-assembly (DSA) of block copolymers (BCPs) is expected to complement conventional optical lithography due to its excellent pattern resolution and cost-effectiveness. Recent studies have shown that BCPs with a large Flory–Huggins interaction parameter (χ) are critical for a reduction of the thermodynamic defect density as well as an increase in pattern density. However, due to their slower self-assembly kinetics, high-χ BCPs typically necessitate solvent vapor annealing, which requires complex facilities and procedures compared to simple thermal annealing. Here, we introduce an immersion-triggered directed self-assembly (iDSA) process and demonstrate the combined advantages of excellent simplicity, productivity, large-area capability, and tunability. We show that the vapor-free, simple immersion of high-χ BCPs in a composition-optimized mixture of nonswelling and swelling solvents can induce the ultrafast (≤5 min) formation of nanoscale patterns with a pattern size ranging from 8–18 nm. Spironolactone Attenuates Methylglyoxal-induced Cellular Dysfunction in MC3T3-E1 Osteoblastic Cells

Background: Methylglyoxal (MG) is associated with the pathogenesis of age- and diabetesrelated complications. Spironolactone is a competitive antagonist of aldosterone that is widely employed in the treatment of hypertension and heart failure. This study examined the effects of spironolactone on MG-induced cellular dysfunction in MC3T3-E1 osteoblastic cells. Methods: MC3T3-E1 cells were treated with spironolactone in the presence of MG. The mitochondrial function, bone formation activity, oxidative damage, inflammatory cytokines, glyoxalase I activity, and glutathione (GSH) were measured. Results: Pretreatment of MC3T3-E1 osteoblastic cells with spironolactone prevented MG-induced cell death, and improved bone formation activity. Spironolactone reduced MG-induced endoplasmic reticulum stress, production of intracellular reactive oxygen species, mitochondrial superoxides, cardiolipin peroxidation, and inflammatory cytokines. Pretreatment with spironolactone also increased the level of reduced GSH and the activity of glyoxalase I. MG induced mitochondrial dysfunction, but markers of mitochondrial biogenesis such as mitochondrial membrane potential, adenosine triphosphate, proliferatoractivated receptor gamma coactivator 1α, and nitric oxide were significantly improved by treatment of spironolactone. Conclusion: Spironolactone could prevent MG-induced cytotoxicity in MC3T3-E1 osteoblastic cells by reduction of oxidative stress. The oxidative stress reduction was explained by spironolactone's inhibition of advanced glycation end-product formation, restoring mitochondrial dysfunction, and anti-inflammatory effect.
