This paper proposed a neural computer architecture for the learning of character pattern recognition categories. The architecture of self-organizations and self-stabilizations is recognition codes in response to arbitrary orderings of many and complex binary input patterns. Top-down attentional and matching mechanisms are critical in self-stabilizing of the code learning process. The architecture embodies a parallel search scheme which update itself adaptively as the learning process unfolds. After learning self-stabilizes, the search process in automatically disengaged. Thereafter input patterns have directly access to their recognition codes without any search. Thus recognition time does not grow as a funtion of code complexity. A novel input pattern can directly access a category if it shares invariant properties with the set of familiar exemplars of that category in the form of learned critical feature patterns, or prototype. Attentional vigilance determines how fine the learned categories will be. If vigilance increases due to an environmental disconfirmation, then the system automatically searches for and learns finer recognition categories. The simulation of this system shows satisfied result in the recognition of the hand written character of hangul.
A Case of Gastric Adenocarcinoma in a Shih Tzu Dog: Successful Treatment of Early Gastric Cancer

<P><B>ABSTRACT</B></P><P>A 9-year-old castrated male Shih Tzu dog was referred to us, because of chronic vomiting. The patient’s hematological, radiographic, ultrasonographic, endoscopic and histological examinations were evaluated for diagnosis. Hematologic analysis indicated moderate anemia and azotemia. Based on the imaging studies, an oval-shaped mass was identified in the gastric pylorus area. A proliferative mass was found on endoscopic examination, and we performed biopsy using grasping forceps. The histopathological findings of the biopsy specimens indicated hypertrophic gastritis, and Y-U pyloroplasty was performed. However, histopathological examination of the surgically resected mass revealed tubular adenocarcinoma of the stomach. Then, carboplatin chemotherapy was performed 4 times for 13 weeks. Clinical signs, such as vomiting, were resolved gradually after surgery and chemotherapy, and the patient’s condition was managed favorably until recently (30 months after surgery). This case report describes clinical features, imaging studies, endoscopic characteristics and histopathological and immunohistochemical features of gastric tubular adenocarcinoma as early gastric cancer in a dog.</P>
Retinoic acid enhances lactoferrin-induced IgA responses by increasing betaglycan expression

<P>Lactoferrin (LF) and retinoic acid (RA) are enriched in colostrum, milk, and mucosal tissues. We recently showed that LF-induced IgA class switching through binding to betaglycan (transforming growth factor-beta receptor III, T beta RIII) and activation of canonical TGF-beta signaling. We investigated the combined effect of LF and RA on the overall IgA response. An increase in IgA production by LF was further augmented by RA. This combination effect was also evident in Ig germ-line alpha (GL alpha) transcription and GLa promoter activity, indicating that LF in cooperation with RA increased IgA isotype switching. We subsequently found that RA enhanced T beta RIII expression and that this increase contributed to LF-stimulated IgA production. In addition to the IgA response, LF and RA in combination also enhanced the expression of the gut-homing molecules C-C chemokine receptor 9 (CCR9) and alpha 4 beta 7 on B cells. Finally, peroral administration of LF and RA enhanced the frequency of CCR9(+)IgA(+) plasma cells in the lamina propria. Taken together, these results suggest that LF in cooperation with RA can contribute to the establishment of gut IgA responses.</P>

The Hnagul font design system by using Hangul automata is more economical than other system in terms of the time to generate whole Hangul font set. In order to obtain good quality of Hangul font by this system, it is known that more Hangul jamo font primitives and combining rules are required. In this paper, we present an effective combining rules in order to generate Hangul font set and to provide an integrated capabilities in Hangul font design environment.
