        Electro-optic Coefficient Measurement of the Double Electro-Optic Molecules Polymer based on Terahertz Application

        In the terahertz (THz) science research field, electro-optic (EO) polymer possesses many superior characters compared with mineral crystal. Two kinds of the side group EO polymer, polyphosphazene with plmaol grained by 2, 4-dinitroaniline and polyphenylacrylate containing p-nitro bisazo group, are synthesized and characterized. For higher EO coefficient, the double EO molecules polymer thin films are prepared by mixing a small nonlinear optical (NLO) molecule into the side group EO polymer. The principles of preparation are given and the EO coefficients are tested. The effect on the EO coefficients by different mixing proportion and different poling temperature are analyzed in details. Experiments results show that the double EO molecules polymer has fine stability, higher EO coefficient and can be easily processed. This kind of material has the potential to be widely applied in the emission and detection of THz radiation.

        Modified Preview Control for a Wireless Tracking Control System With Packet Loss

        <P>In this paper, a modified preview control technique is proposed to compensate packet loss in a wireless tracking control system, where future reference signals over a finite horizon can be previewed. In order to utilize future reference information for the controller design, the system model is augmented with a reference generator whose states are the future reference signals. As a response to the packet loss that occurs in the wireless network, the preview control technique is modified by employing Bernoulli variables to represent packet loss in both controller-actuator and sensor-controller channels. The Bernoulli packet loss model, along with tracking errors and control inputs, is included in a quadratic cost function, and the optimal controller gain that minimizes the cost function is obtained by dynamic programming. A modified Kalman filter considering packet loss is utilized for full-state estimation and state feedback control. The choice of preview horizon is discussed and the performance of the proposed controller is verified by simulation and experimental results.</P>

        Eccentrically compressive behaviour of RC square short columns reinforced with a new composite method

        A new composite reinforced method, namely self-compacting concrete filled circular CFRP-steel jacketing, was proposed in this paper. Experimental tests on eight RC square short columns reinforced with the new composite reinforced method and four RC square short columns reinforced with CFS jackets were conducted to investigate their eccentrically compressive behaviour. Nine reinforced columns were subjected to eccentrically compressive loading, while three reinforced columns were subjected to axial compressive loading as reference. The parameters investigated herein were the eccentricity of the compressive loading and the layer of CFRP. Subsequently, the failure mode, ultimate load, deformation and strain of these reinforced columns were discussed. Their failure modes included the excessive bending deformation, serious buckling of steel jackets, crush of concrete and fracture of CFRP. Moreover, these reinforced columns exhibited a ductile failure globally. Both the eccentricity of the compressive loading and the layer of CFRP had a significant effect on the eccentrically compressive behaviour of reinforced columns. Finally, formulae for the evaluation of the ultimate load of reinforced columns were proposed. The theoretical formulae based on the ultimate equilibrium theory provided an effective, acceptable and safe method for designers to calculate the ultimate load of reinforced columns under eccentrically compressive loading.

        Antioxidant capacity, flavor and physicochemical properties of FH06 functional beverage fermented by lactic acid bacteria: a promising method to improve antioxidant activity and flavor of plant functional beverage

        The ability of natural plants to treat chronic diseases is closely related to their antioxidant function. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) fermentation is an effective way to improve the nutritional value, biological activity and flavor of food. This study investigated the pH, titratable acidity, total polysaccharide, total flavone, total saponin, total polyphenol, and antioxidant activity of the FH06 beverage before and after probiotic fermentation. Results: After fermentation, FH06 had lower contents of total polysaccharides, total flavonoids, total saponins and total polyphenols but higher titratable acidity. The antioxidant activity was tested by total antioxidant capacity (FRAP method) and DPPH· scavenging ability. The FRAP value significantly increased after fermentation (P < 0.05), and the maximum increase was observed for Lactobacillus fermentum grx08 at 25.87%. For DPPH· scavenging ability, the value of all fermentations decreased, and L. fermentum grx08 had the smallest reduction at 2.21% (P < 0.05). The results of GC–MS and sensory analysis showed that fermentation eliminated bad flavors, such as grass, cassia and bitterness, and highlighted the fruit aroma and soft sour taste. Conclusion: The FRAP value and sensory flavor of FH06 fermentation by L. fermentum grx08 were significantly improved, indicating its great potential as a functional food with both strong antioxidant activity and good flavor.

        Dissymmetric beauty: A novel design of heterogemini viscoelastic surfactant for the clean fracturing fluid

        Herein, a new heterogemini surfactant (YS-18), which has a novel structure with two different hydrophobic chains, was designed and easily synthesized with excellent yields. When YS-18 was employed as a thickening agent for the clean fracturing fluid, the results of laboratory evaluation obviously showed that it has much better tolerance of salt and thermostability than the corresponding symmetrical surfactants (YS-YS and 18-18). This not only could prove the dissymmetric beauty, but also provides an alternative way to prepare high-functional materials. The fluid system with a formula of 5 wt% of YS-18 and 0.6 wt% of KCl could maintain high fluid viscosity (more than 100 mPa s) for 60 min under a share rate of 170 s−1 at 110 °C. Meanwhile, the fluid could also provide good support to achieve proppant suspension. The SEM study and rheology test revealed that the fluid system has good network structure, and exhibits good elastic fluid properties. Furthermore, the YS-18/KCl fluid system could be easily and thoroughly broken by reservoir brines and hydrocarbon.

        EFFECTS OF WATER INJECTION ON COMBUSTION EMISSION AND KNOCK CHARACTERISTICS OF TURBOCHARGED DIRECT INJECTION GASOLINE ENGINE

        This paper studied the effects of water injection on combustion, emissions and knock. The results showed that direct water injection (DWI) absorbed more heat than inlet port water injection (PWI), resulting in lower cylinder pressure, higher oxygen content and longer combustion duration. And the turbulence kinetic energy of DWI model was greater, resulting in lower soot and CO emissions of DWI. Furthermore, the cooling effect of exhaust port side WI was better than intake port side, which reduced NOX emission. Besides, the injection pressure of single injector WI was higher than double injector, which increased the combustion duration and reduced the cylinder pressure. The decrease of temperature under water dilution was the main reason for the reduction of NOX, while the increase of incomplete combustion increased the soot and CO emission. Finally, with the same amount of WI, the knock suppression effect of DWI models was better than PWI models. The knock intensity (KI) of all models decreased gradually with the increase of water, and DWI models decreased more rapidly. For PWI models, when the amount of water became smaller, the engine pressure fluctuation of certain areas in the cylinder increased slightly, weakening the influence of WI on engine knock.

      • A new geopolymeric grout blended completely weathered granite with blast-furnace slag

        In order to reduce the usage of cement slurry in grouting engineering and consume the tunnel excavation waste soil, a new geopolymeric grouting material (GGM) was prepared by combine completely weathered granite (CWG) and blast-furnace slag (BFS), which can be applied to in-situ grouting treatment of completely weathered granite strata. The results showed CWG could participate in the geopolymerization process, and GGM slurry has the characteristics of short setting time, high flowability, low viscosity, high stone rate and high mechanical strength, and a design method of grouting pressure based on viscosity evolution was proposed. By adjusted the content of completely weathered granite and alkali activator concentration, the setting time of GGM were ranged from 5 to 30 minutes, the flowability was more than 23.5 cm, the stone rate was higher than 90%, the compressive strength of 28 days were 7.8-16.9 MPa, the porosity were below 30%. This provides a novel grouting treatment and utilizing excavated soil of tunnels in the similar strata.

        Integrated analysis of transcriptome and milk metagenome in subclinical mastitic and healthy cows

        Objective: Abnormally increased somatic cell counts (SCCs) in milk is usually a sign of bovine subclinical mastitis. Mutual interaction between the host and its associated microbiota plays an important role in developing such diseases. The main objective of this study was to explore the difference between cows with elevated SCCs and healthy cattle from the perspective of host-microbe interplay. Methods: A total of 31 milk samples and 23 bovine peripheral blood samples were collected from Holstein dairy cattle to conduct an integrated analysis of transcriptomic and metagenomics. Results: The results showed that Ralstonia and Sphingomonas were enriched in cows with subclinical mastitis. The relative abundance of the two bacteria was positively correlated with the expression level of bovine transcobalamin 1 and uridine phosphorylase 1 encoding gene. Moreover, functional analysis revealed a distinct alternation in some important microbial biological processes. Conclusion: These results reveal the relative abundance of Ralstonia and Sphingomonas other than common mastitis-causing pathogens varied from healthy cows to those with subclinical mastitis and might be associated with elevated SCCs. Potential association was observed between bovine milk microbiota composition and the transcriptional pattern of some genes, thus providing new insights to understand homeostasis of bovine udder.

      • Plant Sap Flow Wireless Sensor Network Base on DF-MAC Protocol

        Plant sap flow detection plays an important role in water consumption research and plant growth rule. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) can effectively realize that transmit the data back to PC. How to prolong the service life of wireless sensor network with the limited energy is a key point. To solve the problem, a novel energy-efficient division-frame MAC (DF-MAC) protocol applied for Wireless Sensor network to detect plant sap flow is proposed in this paper. The idle listening time is shorten in DF-MAC, and wireless equipment is operated in low power of sleep mode to save energy when data transmission is not occurred. DF-MAC has two major characteristics: low number of collisions and low duty cycle. The nodes of sensor in DF-MAC have shorter listening time that would save the power of communicating with other nodes. The number of collisions is minimized in DF-MAC which can save the energy required to send data packages again. According to the consequences of simulation, the energy depletion of DF-MAC Protocol is much lower compared with the existing MAC. DF-MAC is of theoretical and applied significant for plants sap flow measurement in practice.

        Extreme Value Prediction of Traffic Loads Using the Average Conditional Exceedance Rate Method

        An efficient prediction of the extreme value of traffic loads is crucial for the structural design, reliability evaluation, maintenance planning, and further life-cycle cost analysis of bridges. In this work, a novel method is proposed for predicting the appropriate extreme traffic load distribution. Specifically, the average conditional exceedance rate (ACER) statistical model is estimated from the historical traffic loads which was collected through a weigh-in-motion system installed in toll stations. The basic idea of the ACER approach lies in the introduction of a cascade of conditioning approximations and the average exceedance rate to capture the dependence effects and obtain the data tail, the trend features of which are fitted with a similar Gumbel distribution function and extrapolated to the concerned level. An illustration case dealing with traffic loads using the ACER strategy is presented, the extreme value and confidence interval (CI) in any return period can be predicted by application of this approach. Furthermore, the peaks-over-threshold (POT) method based on the asymptotic extreme theory is also applied to illustrate the advantages of the ACER method. The ACER method has advantages in analyzing extreme traffic loads, with good robustness and the ability to handle extreme value prediction for different sampling strategies, it also can produce more accurate confidence intervals and predicts consistent extreme values. The study results are expected to help accurately determine traffic loads and ensure safety in bridge engineering.
