Bottom-contact (BC) copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) thin film transistor with UV/ozone treated Au as a source/drain electrode was fabricated and the contact resistance was estimated from the transmission line method (TLM). Comparing the properties of OTFT with untreated Au electrode, the performance of the BC CuPc-TFT with the UV/ozone treated Au electrodes was significantly improved: saturation mobility increased from 4.69 × 10−3 to 2.37 × 10−2 ㎠/V s, threshold voltage reduced from −29.1 to −6.4 V, and threshold swing varied from 5.08 to 2.25 V/decade. The contact resistance of the device with UV/ozone treated Au electrodes was nearly 20 times smaller than that of the device with untreated Au electrodes at the gate voltage of −20 V. This result indicated that using the UV/ozone treated Au electrode is an effective method to reduce the contact resistance. The present BC configuration with UV/ozone treated Au electrodes could be a significant step towards the commercialization of OTFT technology.

<P>A Gram-positive, aerobic, non-motile, non-spore forming strain, designated DSD51W(T), was isolated using a resuscitative technique from a soil sample collected from Kyoto park, Japan, and characterized by using a polyphasic approach. The morphological and chemotaxonomic properties of the isolate were typical of those of members of the genus Rhodococcus. Strain DSD51W(T) was found to form a coherent cluster with Rhodococcus hoagii ATCC 7005(T), Rhodococcus equi NBRC 101255(T), Rhodococcus defluvii Call(T) and Rhodococcus kunmingensis YIM 45607(T) as its closest phylogenetic neighbours in 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. However, the DNA-DNA hybridization values with the above strains were 58.2 ± 2.2, 58.4 ± 1.9, 45.1 ± 1.4 and 40.3 ± 4.7 %, respectively. In combination with differences in physiological and biochemical properties, strain DSD51W(T) can be concluded to represent a novel species of the genus Rhodococcus, for which the name Rhodococcus soli sp. nov. is proposed, with the type strain DSD51W(T) (=KCTC 29259(T) = JCM 19627(T) = DSM 46662(T) = KACC 17838(T)).</P>
Isolation, Culture and Identification of Porcine Skeletal Muscle Satellite Cells
Li, Bo-jiang,Li, Ping-hua,Huang, Rui-hua,Sun, Wen-xing,Wang, Han,Li, Qi-fa,Chen, Jie,Wu, Wang-jun,Liu, Hong-lin Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2015 Animal Bioscience Vol.28 No.8
The objective of this study was to establish the optimum protocol for the isolation and culture of porcine muscle satellite cells. Mononuclear muscle satellite cells are a kind of adult stem cell, which is located between the basal lamina and sarcolemma of muscle fibers and is the primary source of myogenic precursor cells in postnatal muscle. Muscle satellite cells are a useful model to investigate the mechanisms of muscle growth and development. Although the isolation and culture protocols of muscle satellite cells in some species (e.g. mouse) have been established successfully, the culture system for porcine muscle satellite cells is very limited. In this study, we optimized the isolation procedure of porcine muscle satellite cells and elaborated the isolation and culture process in detail. Furthermore, we characterized the porcine muscle satellite cells using the immunofluorecence. Our study provides a reference for the isolation of porcine muscle satellite cells and will be useful for studying the molecular mechanisms in these cells.

We conducted a case-control study in China to clarify the association between XRCC1-Arg399Gln polymorphism and HCC risk. A total of 150 cases and 158 controls were selected from the the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University from May 2008 to May 2010. XRCC1-Arg399Gln polymorphism was based upon duplex polymerase-chain-reaction with the confronting-two-pairprimer (PCR-CTPP) method. All analyses were performed using the STATA statistical package. A significantly increased risk was associated with the Arg/Gln genotype (adjusted OR 1.78, 95%CI=1.13-2.79) compared with genotype Arg/Arg. In contrast, the Gln/Gln genotype had non-significant increased risk of HCC with adjusted OR (95%CI) of 1.69 (0.93-2.66). A significant association was found between positive HBsAg and Arg/Gln, with an OR of 3.43 (95% CI=1.45-8.13). Patients carrying Gln/Gln genotypes showed significantly lower median survival than Arg/Arg genotypes (HR=1.38, 95% CI=1.04-1.84). Further Kaplan-Meier analysis showed decreased median survival in Arg/Gln+Gln/Gln genotype carriers in comparison to Arg/Arg carriers (HR=1.33, 95% CI=1.02-1.76). In conclusion, we observed that XRCC1-Arg399Cln polymorphism is associated with susceptibility to HCC, and XRCC1 Gln allele genotype showed significant prognostic associations.

Purpose: To investigate the prevalence of spina bifida occulta (SBO) and its relationship with the presence of overactive bladder (OAB) in middle-aged and elderly people in China. Methods: A cross-sectional community-based survey was carried out at 7 communities in Zhengzhou City, China from December 15, 2013 to June 10, 2014, where residents aged over 40 years were randomly selected to participate. All of the participants underwent lumbosacral radiographic analysis and relevant laboratory tests. A questionnaire including basic information, past medical history and present illness, and the OAB symptom score was filled out by all participants. Chi-square tests and logistic regression were used for data analysis with a P-value of <0.05 denoting statistical significance. Results: A total of 1,061 subjects were qualified for the final statistical analysis (58.8±11.7 years; male, 471 [44.4%]; female, 590 [55.6%]). The overall prevalence of SBO was 15.1% (160 of 1,061): 18.3% (86 of 471) in men and 12.5% (74 of 590) in women. Among these subjects, 13.7% (145 of 1,061) had OAB: 13.2% (62 of 471) in men and 14.1% (83 of 590) in women. The results of logistic regression showed that age, SBO, history of cerebral infarction (HCI), and constipation were risk factors for OAB (P<0.05), while sex, history of childhood enuresis (HCE), body mass index (BMI), and diabetes mellitus (DM) were not (P>0.05). In men, age, SBO, and constipation were risk factors for OAB (P<0.05), while HCE, BMI, DM, HCI, and benign prostate hyperplasia were not (P>0.05). In women, age, SBO, and HCI were risk factors for OAB (P<0.05), while HCE, BMI, DM, vaginal delivery, and constipation were not (P>0.05). Conclusions: The prevalence of SBO is high and it is related to OAB in middle-aged and elderly people in China.

Li, Wen-Jun,Chen, Hua-Hong,Zhang, Yu-Qin,Kim, Chang-Jin,Park, Dong-Jin,Lee, Jae-Chan,Xu, Li-Hua,Jiang, Cheng-Lin Microbiology Society 2005 International journal of systematic and evolutiona Vol.55 No.1
<P>An actinobacterium, strain YIM 70010T, which was isolated from a desert soil sample collected in Egypt, was subjected to a polyphasic taxonomy study. The organism was alkalitolerant and its optimum growth occurred at pH 8·0-9·0. The isolate contained chemotaxonomic markers that were characteristic of the genus <I>Citricoccus</I>, i.e. the peptidoglycan type Lys-Gly-Glu (variation A4<I>α</I>), the predominant menaquinone MK-9(H2) and a polar lipid profile consisting of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol and two unknown glycolipids. The major fatty acids were anteiso-C15 : 0 and iso-C15 : 0. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 63·8 mol%. Strain YIM 70010T exhibited a 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of 99·6 % and DNA-DNA relatedness value of 56 % with <I>Citricoccus muralis</I> DSM 14442T. The phenotypic characteristics and DNA-DNA relatedness data indicate that strain YIM 70010T can be distinguished from <I>C. muralis</I> (DSM 14442T). Therefore, on the basis of the polyphasic taxonomic data presented, a novel species of the genus <I>Citricoccus</I>, <I>Citricoccus alkalitolerans</I> sp. nov. (type strain, YIM 70010T=CCTCC AA 203008T=DSM 15665T=KCTC 19012T) is proposed.</P>

<P>Five novel Nocardiopsis strains isolated from hypersaline soils in China were subjected to a polyphasic analysis to determine their taxonomic position. All of the novel isolates could grow on agar plates at NaCl concentrations of up to 18 % (w/v), with optimum growth at 5-8 %. The DNA G+C contents of the novel strains ranged from 67.9 to 73.2 mol%. The morphological and chemotaxonomic characteristics of the isolates matched those described for members of the genus Nocardiopsis. Based on their 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, DNA-DNA hybridization values and phenotypic characteristics, including the composition of cell-wall amino acids and sugars, menaquinones, polar lipids and cellular fatty acids, the isolates are proposed as representing five novel species of the genus Nocardiopsis. The novel species are proposed as Nocardiopsis gilva sp. nov. [type strain YIM 90087T (=KCTC 19006T=CCTCC AA 2040012T=DSM 44841T)], Nocardiopsis rosea sp. nov. [type strain YIM 90094T (=KCTC 19007T=CCTCC AA 2040013T=DSM 44842T), Nocardiopsis rhodophaea sp. nov. [type strain YIM 90096T (=KCTC 19049T=CCTCC AA 2040014T=DSM 44843T), Nocardiopsis chromatogenes sp. nov. [type strain YIM 90109T (=KCTC 19008T=CCTCC AA 2040015T=DSM 44844T) and Nocardiopsis baichengensis sp. nov. [type strain YIM 90130T (=KCTC 19009T=CCTCC AA 2040016T=DSM 44845T). On the basis of the chemotaxonomic data, the description of the recently described species Nocardiopsis salina Li et al. 2004 is emended.</P>
