Effects of face-sheet materials on the flexural behavior of aluminum foam sandwich

        Wei Xiao,Chang Yan,Weibo Tian,Weiping Tian,Xuding Song 국제구조공학회 2018 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.29 No.3

Properties of AFS vary with the changes in the face-sheet materials. Hence, the performance of AFS can be optimized by selecting face-sheet materials. In this work, three types of face-sheet materials representing elastic-perfectly plastic, elastic-plastic strain hardening and purely elastic materials were employed to study their effects on the flexural behavior and failure mechanism of AFS systematically. Result showed face-sheet materials affected the failure mechanism and energy absorption ability of AFS significantly. When the foam cores were sandwiched by aluminum alloy 6061, the AFS failed by facesheet yielding and crack without collapse of the foam core, there was no clear plastic platform in the Load-Displacement curve. When the foam cores were sandwiched by stainless steel 304 and carbon fiber fabric, there were no face-sheet crack and the sandwich structure failed by core shear and collapse, plastic platform appeared. Energy absorption abilities of steel and carbon fiber reinforced AFS were much higher than aluminum alloy reinforced one. Carbon fiber was suggested as the best choice for AFS for its light weight and high performance. The versus strength ratio of face sheet to core was suggested to be a significant value for AFS structure design which may determine the failure mechanism of a certain AFS structure.

Preparation of titanium dioxide/tungsten disulfide composite photocatalysts with enhanced photocatalytic activity under visible light

Xinyan Xiao,Lili Zheng,Weiping Zhang 한국화학공학회 2016 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.33 No.1

Titanium dioxide/tungsten disulfide (TiO2/WS2) composite photocatalysts were fabricated via a one-step hydrothermal synthesis process, using TiCl4 as titanium source and bulk WS2 as sensitizer. The morphology, structure, specific surface area and optical absorption properties of the composite photocatalysts were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), specific surface area analyzer and ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflection spectrum (UV-vis DRS), respectively. The photocatalytic activity of as-prepared photocatalysts was evaluated by the degradation of methyl orange (MO) under illumination of 500W Xenon lamp. The results indicated that TiO2/WS2 composite photocatalysts possessed excellent photocatalytic activity, and ~95% of the degradation rate for MO was reached when molar ratio of WS2 to TiO2 was 0.004 and the irradiation time was 60 min. Moreover, the carrier trapping experiment and fluorescence spectra showed that •O2 − was the key component in the photocatalytic degradation process and O2 was reduced to be •O2 − by the electrons from the conduction band of TiO2 and WS2 for the degradation of MO.

Enhanced photocatalytic mechanism of Ag3PO4 nano-sheets using MS2 (M = Mo, W)/rGO hybrids as co-catalysts for 4-nitrophenol degradation in water

        Zhang, Weiping,Li, Guiying,Wang, Wanjun,Qin, Yaxin,An, Taicheng,Xiao, Xinyan,Choi, Wonyong Elsevier 2018 Applied Catalysis B Vol.232 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A chemically modified Ag3PO4@MS2(M = Mo, W)/rGO composite was firstly synthesized via a liquid-exfoliation solvothermal method. The structure, morphology, optical properties and composition were characterized by X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, respectively. The characterization results indicated that compact structure could be obtained by using this typical method due to in-situ chemical modification, which could also control the sizes of Ag3PO4 nano-sheets by adding MS2/rGO hybrids. More importantly, the resultant Ag3PO4@MS2/rGO composite exhibited higher photocatalytic activity and stability toward the degradation of 4-nitrophenol than pure Ag3PO4 under sunlight irradiation. The stable structure of Ag3PO4@MS2/rGO was closely related with Z-scheme electronic structure and electrical conductivity of MS2/rGO hybrids, leading to a higher consumption and transfer of photogenerated electrons. However, by controlling the amounts of MS2/rGO hybrids, more stable but lower photocatalytic activity composites could be obtained. Further analysis found that the holes and O2 − were the main reactive species involved in the photocatalytic degradation of 4-nitrophenol. In addition, possible photocatalytic degradation pathways of 4-nitrophenol were also proposed based on the identified intermediates. The findings of this work may provide a new method to design efficient composites for photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Ag3PO4@MS2/rGO catalyst was fabricated via a liquid-exfoliation solvothermal method. </LI> <LI> Ag3PO4@MS2/rGO has high photocatalytic activity and stability under sunlight. </LI> <LI> The stability of Ag3PO4@MS2/rGO was due to its rapid transfer of photogenerated e−. </LI> <LI> h+ and O2 − were the main RSs in photocatalytic degradation of 4-nitrophenol. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Modified exosomal SIRPα variants alleviate white matter injury after intracerebral hemorrhage via microglia/macrophages

        Xinjie Gao,Heng Yang,Weiping Xiao,Jiabin Su,Yuwen Zhang,He Wang,Wei Ni,Yuxiang Gu 한국생체재료학회 2022 생체재료학회지 Vol.26 No.4

Background: Despite limited efficiency, modulation of microglia/macrophages has shown to attenuate neuroinflammation after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). In this context, we evaluated the efficacy of modified exosomal signal regulatory protein α (SIRPα) variants (SIRPα-v Exos) in microglia/macrophages and neuroinflammation-associated white matter injury after ICH. Methods: SIRPα-v Exos were engineered to block CD47-SIRPα interactions. After obtaining SIRPα-v Exos from lentivirus-infected mesenchymal stem cells, C57BL/6 mice suffering from ICH underwent consecutive intravenous injections of SIRPα-v Exos (6 mg/kg) for 14 days. Afterwards, the volume of hematoma and neurological dysfunctions were assessed in mice continuously until 35 days after ICH. In addition, demyelination, electrophysiology and neuroinflammation were evaluated. Furthermore, the mechanisms of microglial regulation by SIRPα-v Exos were investigated in vitro under coculture conditions. Results: The results demonstrated that the clearance of hematoma in mice suffering from ICH was accelerated after SIRPα-v Exo treatment. SIRPα-v Exos improved long-term neurological dysfunction by ameliorating white matter injury. In addition, SIRPα-v Exos recruited regulatory T cells (Tregs) to promote M2 polarization of microglia/macrophages in the peri-hematoma tissue. In vitro experiments further showed that SIRPα-v Exos regulated primary microglia in a direct and indirect manner in synergy with Tregs. Conclusion: Our studies revealed that SIRPα-v Exos could accelerate the clearance of hematoma and ameliorate secondary white matter injury after ICH through regulation of microglia/macrophages. SIRPα-v Exos may become a promising treatment for ICH in clinical practice.
