Purpose: Corn is a major commercial crop targeted for genetic modification owing to its high consumer demand as a foodstuff for humans and livestock, as well as its other industrial applications. However, the safety of genetically modified (GM) crops is controversial. Indeed, several countries have banned the importation of GM seeds that can germinate. Therefore, development of effective, convenient, and nondestructive methods to inhibit seed germination is required. Methods: This study aimed to examine the efficacy of microwave heat treatment for inhibition of germination of corn kernels and for optimization of power and exposure time required for effective aging treatment. Artificial inhibition was induced in corn kernels using microwave heat treatment. Seven power levels were examined (400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, and 1000 W) at each of the four exposure times (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 min). Results: Corn kernels could be aged effectively after heating for 0.5~1.0 min at powers greater than 800 W, with increasing efficacy observed at higher powers. Further analysis showed that the most effective inhibition of germination was observed at 1000 W for 40 s. This setting did not cause any physical damage to the corn kernels. Conclusions: Optimal inhibition of corn kernel germination was achieved using higher power for shorter times, which may be useful for industrial corn seed treatment.

Objective: The aim of this study is providing a direction and implication to expand the e-bike market based on the macro-environment analysis. Background: The demand of e-bike has been growing fast. Especially, Asian countries such as Japan and China, and several European countries including Germany and Netherlands possess high market share. Comparing to these countries, however, Korean e-bike market is relatively small. And Korea 4 Major river bike road is suitable market to be adopted. Method: In order to understand the macro-environmental situation related to an e-bike market, a PEST analysis was conducted. The results of PEST analysis was presented in terms of the Product service system design. The status of four environments (Political, Economic, Social and Technological environment) was decided based on literature reviews. Then, it was plotted on the graph. As a plot located in the lower level, it indicated more potential to be improved or developed. Results: As a result, the political and social conditions displayed lower level of maturity compared to economic and technological conditions. Among them, the technological environment showed the highest level of development. Conclusion: To settle down the e-bike system and vitalize its usage, it is needed to bridge the gap between underdeveloped environments (political and social) and developed environments (economic and technological). In order to achieve this, the role of ergonomics and design is vital. In particular, it is expected to develop an e-bike system in order to enhance the usability and social recognition of an e-bike. Application: The integration of PEST analysis and the Product service system design provide not only a new way to investigate macro-environment, but also a useful insight to enlarge the e-bike market. In addition to that, it suggests a direction to reduce the gap between the peoples who are related to an e-bike system, but came from different fields.

The structured lighting technique is a very accurate depth measurement method. One problem in this technique is that the laser light is invisible very often partly or as a whole caused from occlusion, light absorbtion, and reflection on the surface. If there is no laser light detected on a row of the image frame, the depth could not be computed at the point on the row. In this paper, a Dynamic Programing-based efficient laser line tracking algorithm is proposed to find the most likely line of the laser light utilizing all the possible information of the laser light trace. The performance of the algorithm is shown.

천장의 반복 무늬를 이용하여 로봇의 방향과 위치를 계산하는 새로운 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 방향 계산을 위해서 천장 영상으로부터 검출한 직선과 로봇의 현재 방향 간의 상대 각도를 계산한 후, 천장무늬에 포함된 여러 기준 직선의 방향들에 상기 상대각도를 더하여 로봇의 절대방향 후보 집합을 구성한다. 로봇 방향은 이 절대방향 후보 집합 중, 이전의 로봇 방향과 가장 가까운 방향으로 결정한다. 로봇의 위치도, 영상에서의 격자점의 화소 위치를 이용하여 로봇의 격자점과 로봇 간의 상대 위치를 계산 한 후, 이전 로봇 주변의 격자점들에 상기 상대위치 벡터를 더하여 절대 위치 후보 집합을 구성하며, 이들 중 이전 로봇의 위치와 가장 가까운 위치를 현재 로봇 위치로 결정한다. 제안한 알고리즘을 이용하여 구한 위치 및 방향의 정확성을 검증하기 위한 실험을 수행하였다. A novel algorithm which computes the orientations and the locations of mobile robots with repeating feature of ceiling textures is proposed. For orientation computation, the relative angle between a strait line on a ceiling image and the center line of the robot is firstly computed. The relative angle is added to the global reference angles of straight lines of the ceiling and a group of robot orientation candidates is composed. The robot orientation is determined from such orientation candidate group by choosing the closest one to the previous robot orientation. Similarly, the location of the robot is determined from the robot location candidate group by choosing the closest one to the previous robot location, where robot location candidate group is composed by adding the relative location of the robot to global locations of neighboring nodes of the previous robot locations. The experiment has been done to test the accuracy of the algorithm in computing locations and orientations.
