Pre-game speeches are a popular coaching technique. While recent research has begun to examine their effectiveness (Vargas-Tonsing & Guan, 2007; Vargas-Tonsing & Bartholomew, 2006), little is known about athletes’ perceptions of the effects of these speeches. Participants were 151 soccer players representing 10 elite soccer teams (five male and five female teams). Athletes had a mean age of 14.21 years (SD = 1.85) and reported an average of 8.83 years (SD = 2.26) of soccer playing experience. Athletes completed a questionnaire at the conclusion of a game that asked them to describe and elaborate on their perceptions of the coaches’ pre-game speech; responses were analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that the majority of the athletes reported liking the speeches and indicated that the speeches impacted their performance and met their psychological, emotional and performance needs. The results offer insight into athletes’ preferences for speech content and demonstrate the need for further research in this area.

Purpose. To evaluate the metameric disparities among monolithic zirconia materials with differing yttrium compositions across various lighting conditions. Materials and Methods. Thirty-six square-shaped zirconia samples measuring 10 × 10 × 0.5 mm were prepared from monolithic zirconia materials with three different yttrium contents. A 0.2 mm thick layer of polymerized dual-polymerizable self-adhesive resin cement was created using a silicone mold with the same dimensions as the prepared zirconia specimens. To evaluate metamerism, color measurements were conducted using a spectrophotometer device on a neutral gray background in a color measurement cabinet that offers four different illumination environments. All samples underwent aging by subjecting them to 10000 thermal cycles using a thermal cycle tester. Following thermal aging, color measurements were taken once more, and the data were recorded using the CIE L*, a*, b* color system. Two-way ANOVA and Post-hoc Bonferroni tests were employed to analyze the data. Results. It was observed that there was no statistical difference among the color measurements made in different illumination environments of the monolithic zirconia ceramics used to evaluate metamerism (P > .05). This observation remained consistent both before and after thermal aging. After thermal aging, the color of monolithic zirconia materials exhibited a tendency towards red and yellow hues, accompanied by a decrease in brightness levels. Conclusion. It can be stated that different illumination conditions did not affect the metamerism of monolithic zirconia materials, but there was a color change in monolithic zirconia materials after a thermal aging period equivalent to one year.

Analysis of Cylindricity Error of High and Low Temperature Storage Tested Alternator Stators
Varga Gyula,Ferencsik Viktoria 한국자동차공학회 2020 International journal of automotive technology Vol.21 No.6
This paper investigates the internal shape correctness of alternator stators occurring in high and low temperature storage tests. This kind of failure can affect the adequate operation of alternators since vibrations can occur during rotation of the other part of the alternator, the rotor. This error can reduce the efficiency of the alternator. The aim of this study is to examine the influence of different testing parameters, such as the temperature and the running time of the test, and whether or not the stator is equipped with a damping element. For the experiments we used the full factorial experimental design method. The measurement of the cylindricity of the specimens was done with a circular and position error measuring machine. From the measured data, special improvement ratios can be calculated in order to define the appropriate range of testing parameters that resulting greater deformity. A further aim is to compare the different cylindricity parameters and the features of theirs measured values.
Poisson's Ratio Measurement Using a Pair of PVDF Ultrasonic Transducer
Vargas, Enrique,Toral, Sergio,Gonzalez, Vicente The Korean Society for Nondestructive Testing 2009 한국비파괴검사학회지 Vol.29 No.6
This work presents a simple technique to determine the Poisson's ratio of homogeneous solid material using a pair of low cost PVDF ultrasonic transducers. It is based on transducer's property of generating longitudinal and transversal waves depending on the excitation frequency. Mechanical tests were conducted to validate the proposed method, resulting in a good agreement between ultrasonic and mechanical techniques.
Coupled Lattice Polarization and Ferromagnetism in Multiferroic NiTiO3 Thin Films

<P>Polarization-induced weak ferromagnetism (WFM) was demonstrated a few years back in LiNbO3-type compounds, MTiO3 (M = Fe, Mn, Ni). Although the coexistence of ferroelectric polarization and ferromagnetism has been demonstrated in this rare multiferroic family before, first in bulk FeTiO3, then in thin-film NiTiO3, the coupling of the two order parameters has not been confirmed Here, we report the stabilization of polar, ferromagnetic NiTiO3 by oxide epitaxy on a LiNbO3 substrate utilizing tensile strain and demonstrate the theoretically predicted coupling between its polarization and ferromagnetism by X-ray magnetic circular dichroism under applied fields. The experimentally observed direction of ferroic ordering in the film is supported by simulations using the phase-field approach. Our work validates symmetry-based criteria and first-principles calculations of the coexistence of ferroelectricity and WFM in MTiO3 transition metal titanates crystallizing in the LiNbO3 structure. It also demonstrates the applicability of epitaxial strain as a viable alternative to high-pressure crystal growth to stabilize metastable materials and a valuable tuning parameter to simultaneously control two ferroic order parameters to create a multiferroic. Multiferroic NiTiO3 has potential applications in spintronics where ferroic switching is used, such as new four-stage memories and electromagnetic switches.</P>
QoS-Oriented Solutions for Satellite Broadcasting Systems
Vargas, Aharon,Gerstacker, Wolfgang H.,Breiling, Marco The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2010 Journal of communications and networks Vol.12 No.6
In this paper, we analyze the capability of satellite broadcasting systems to offer different levels of quality of service (QoS). We focus on the European telecommunications standards institute satellite digital radio and digital video broadcasting satellite handheld (DVB-SH) standards, which have recently been proposed for satellite broadcasting communications. We propose a strategy to provide different levels of QoS for the DVB-SH standard on the basis of an extension of the interleaving scheme, referred to as molded interleaver, which supports low latency service requirements for interactive services. An extensive analysis based on laboratory measurements shows the benefits of this solution. We also present a multilevel coding (MLC) scheme with multistage decoding designed for broadcasting communications as an alternative to the existing standards, where services with different levels of QoS are provided. We present a graphical method based on mutual information for the design and evaluation of MLC systems used for broadcasting communications. Extensive simulations for a typical satellite channel show the viability of the proposed MLC scheme. Finally, we introduce multidimensional constellations in the proposed MLC scheme in order to increase the number of different protection levels.

<P>Porous and self-standing structures are highly promising as membranes, electrodes, high sensitivity gas sensors, and supercapacitors due to their high surface area and tuneable surface properties. Composition of such materials with a polycrystalline diamond film may provide new functionalities for biological and electrochemical applications. However, the diamond growth on foreign substrates as a pinhole-free continuous thin film is still a not a trivial task. Here, we present a successful templated deposition process of polycrystalline diamond film on reticulated vitreous carbon foam (C-foam). Samples of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) polymer-nanodiamond (ND) mixtures with various ND concentrations were prepared and characterized by means of optical spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, zeta potential and pH measurements. The ND/PVA mixtures are employed for the preparation of diamond film by microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition process, and the effect of their composition (NDs/PVA ratio) on the nucleation (seed density, clustering) and diamond growth (substrate etching, polymer transformation) is analysed. The nucleation, early-stage of diamond growth and the resulting diamond-coated C-foams are characterized by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The obtained results underline the importance to tailor the NDs/PVA ratio for a well-defined three-dimensional C-foam coverage with the continuous diamond film. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd.
