        A Comparative Analysis of Aguk yeojido: A Map of Ussuriysky Krai, a Region Situated on the Border between Russia and Korea

        「아국여지도」은 1858년의 청 제국과 아이군조약, 천진조약 그리고 1860년 베이징조약을 통해 러시아가 획득한 영토를 묘사한 한국 최초의 지도로 널리 인정받고 있다. 이 지도의 제작 의도와 저자는 여전히 논란의 대상이지만, 그 창작 시기에 대해서는 학계에서 어느 정도 합의가 이루어진 상태다. 이 지도는 러시아 제국의 극동지역 일부를 보여주며, 러시아와 조선 간의 국경 확립 이후 러시아로 이주한 한국인의 인구와 생계에 대한 통찰력 있는 정보를 제공한다는 점에서 흥미롭다. 이 논문에서는 「아국여지도」에 대한 간결하면서도 체계적인 설명을 제공하고, 같은 시기 러시아 제작의 다른 지도와 여러 가지 문서를 통해 그 내용을 분석하였다. 분석 결과로, 「아국여지도」는 풍경 요소의 대략적인 배치와 정착지의 위치 등 독특한 지형적 특징을 보유하고 있다. 도로와 전력선, 군사 및 산업 구조의 위치를 상당히 정확하게 묘사하는 점이 주목할 만하다. 또한, 지도에는 정보적 가치는 없지만 장식적인 요소들이 포함되어 있음이 확인되었다. 더불어, 특정 텍스트 요소들도 밝혀졌다: 도교의 풍수에 따른 구호에 대한 우화적 묘사, 군대의 수와 위치에 대한 반복적인 언급, 다양한 역사적 사건의 기록, 기술 혁신에 대한 상세한 설명 등이 그것이다. 따라서 「아국여지도」의 지형적 특성과 문헌적 요소는 이 지도가 한국 주변 러시아 영토의 군사적, 산업적 잠재력을 보여주기 위한 목적이었음을 시사한다. 이는 지도가 단순히 정확한 지리적 설명을 제공하는 것보다는, 이러한 목적을 가지고 제작된 것임을 보여준다. The “Aguk yeojido”(俄國輿地圖) is currently recognized as the earliest Korean attempt to portray the territories that Russia obtained through the signing of the Aigun and Tianjin Treaties with the Qing Empire in 1858, and the Beijing Treaty of 1860. The intent behind and authorship of this map continue to be subjects of debate; however, there is some consensus within the academic community regarding its time of creation. The map's content is quite intriguing, given that it not only illustrates a portion of the Russian Empire's Far Eastern territories but also provides insightful data regarding the population, and its livelihood of Koreans who migrated to the Russian Empire following the establishment of a shared border between Russia and Joseon. This paper provides a concise description of the “Aguk yeojido”, and also undertake an analysis of its content through the lens of maps created in Russia within the same time period, and various historical documents. As a result of the analysis undertaken, I conclude “Aguk yeojido” possesses distinct topographic features, such as approximate placement of landscape elements and the positioning of settlements. However, it's noteworthy to recognize the relative accuracy when delineating the locations of military and industrial structures, along with roads and power lines. It is worth noting the incorporation of various decorative elements into the maps, despite not carrying any informational value. My analysis also unveils its certain textual features: the use of allegorical descriptions of relief, drawing from the Taoist practice of Feng shui(風水), recurring references to the number and locations of troops, the narration of various historical events, and the detailed accounts of technical innovations. Hence, the topographic and textual features of “Aguk yeojido” suggest that the map was intended more to display the military and industrial potential of Russian territories near Korea, rather than providing a meticulous geographical description.

        Laminoplasty versus Laminectomy in the Treatment of Primary Spinal Cord Tumors in Adult Patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Observational Studies

        The present systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to compare the safety and efficacy of the two approaches for primary spinal cord tumors (PSCTs) in adult patients (laminoplasty [LP] vs. laminectomy [LE]). LE is one of the most common procedures for PSCTs. Despite advantages of LP, it is not yet widely used in the neurosurgical community worldwide. The efficacy of LP vs. LE remains controversial. Adult patients over 18 years of age with PSCT at the level of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine were included in the study. A literature search was performed in MEDLINE via PubMed, EMBASE, The Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar up to December 2021. Operation time, hospital stay, complications, and incidence of postoperative spinal deformity (kyphosis or scoliosis were extracted. A total of seven retrospective observational studies with 540 patients were included. There were no significant differences between LP and LE group in operation time (p =0.25) and complications (p =0.48). The LE group showed larger postoperative spinal deformity rate than the LP group (odds ratio, 0.47; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.27−0.84; p =0.01). The LP group had a shorter hospital stay (standardized mean differences, −0.68; 95% CI, −1.03 to −0.34; p =0.0001) than the LE group. Both LP and LE have comparable operative times and total complications in the treatment of PSCT. LP was superior to LE in hospital stay and postoperative spinal deformity rate. However, these findings are limited by the very low quality of the available evidence. Randomized controlled trials are needed for further comparison.

        Expected Simultaneous Parity and Time Reversal Violating Effects in the Polarized Neutron Transmission through the Polarized 139LaAlO3 and 131Xe Targets.

        We applied an S-matrix approach for numerical computations of some useful dependencies of the expected effects of simultaneous parity and time violation in polarized neutron transmission through a polarized target. The present analysis includes compensation of the pseudomagnetic interaction, an optimal target thickness, relative errors, and the energy dependences of the parity and the time violation effects. The analysis shows that a gaseous optically-pumped $^{131}$Xe target may be used for this experiment, as well as a $^{139}$LaAlO$_3$ target and that, in principle, the experimental method can be improved. Besides, our model calculations show that the ratio of the parity and time violation weak matrix element to the parity violation weak matrix element, $w_{PT}/w_P$ may be experimentally measured at a level of 10$^{-3}$. This, at least, is one order of magnitude more than expected. The present theoretical estimates are indirect, and many of them allow the possibility of $w_{PT}/w_P$ being large enough to be measured.

        A taxonomic revision of Solenostomataceae (Marchantiophyta) in Korea

        Solenostomataceae are revised for the Korean Peninsula. In total, 27 species in four genera (Metasolenostoma, Plectocolea, Protosolenostoma, Solenostoma) are recorded, the occurrence of 24 of which is confirmed. Each confirmed species is provided with an ecological overview, and a list of specimens examined and illustrations based on materials from Korea. Solenostoma jirisanense sp. nov. is described.

        Temperature Trend Predictive IoT Sensor Design for Precise Industrial Automation

        Predictive IoT Sensor Algorithm is a technique of data science that helps computers learn from existing data to predict future behaviors, outcomes, and trends. This algorithm is a cloud predictive analytics service that makes it possible to quickly create and deploy predictive models as analytics solutions. Sensors and computers collect and analyze data. Using the time series prediction algorithm helps to predict future temperature. The application of this IoT in industrial environments like power plants and factories will allow organizations to process much larger data sets much faster and precisely. This rich source of sensor data can be networked, gathered and analyzed by super smart software which will help to detect problems, work more productively. Using predictive IoT technology - sensors and real-time monitoring - can help organizations exactly where and when equipment needs to be adjusted, replaced or how to act in a given situation.

        Magneto-Electric Response of Iron Garnet Film Micromagnetic Structure on Combined Action of AC and DC Electric Field

        Changes in the domain structure of epitaxial ferrite-garnet films under joint action of DC and AC electric fields and DC magnetic field were investigated by the optical polarimetry method. The effect of broadening of the domain wall image was found under specified combined influences. The investigations revealed that visual manifestation of the effect strongly depends on the curvature of the domain walls and the orientation of the magnetic field relative to the sample plane. Analyzing our results, we note that reaction of the domain structure to influence of external electric fields was caused by changing the magnetic anisotropy parameters of ferrite garnets in an electric field.

        A Russian View on Korean Security after the North-South Korea Summit

        For Korea, the year 2000 emerged truly historical. There were events capable of changing relations considerably between the two Korean states and bolstering security on the peninsula. The historical June 13-15 summit will no doubt render essential influence on inter-Korean relations and the situation in the region. Now in turn there are the tasks of adaptation of internal and external policy to the North-South rapprochement. Many on both sides are reflecting upon whether there are pan-Korean national interests for the sake of which it be necessary to change all antagonistic practices existing until now in the international arena, and to try to establish inter-Korean cooperation. Clearly, it is the Koreans who must solve these matters independently, as masters of their own country. Some foreign observers did not assume that the Pyongyang summit would be so significant. Moreover, they have felt for the first time that Korean national interests and priorities could well exceed ROK alliance responsibilities. The political leaders on the peninsula have denied all pessimistic forecasts from the experts and have shown ability and determination to change the course of events in the interests of the nation and peace in Korea. It instills hope that Korean summits will continue well into the future. But if the Koreans really want to pull together, and even unite, they will be compelled to correct internal and external policies. Such updating might be unexpected for Korea`s neighbors, and we are probably beginning to notice it already.
